Congressional Approval: Lowest in 10 Years

Congratulations are in order for the Democrats. They've succeeded doing in five and a half months what Republicans couldn't do in the last decade - hit a 27% approval rating, with nowhere to go but down. The latest Los Angeles Times/Bloomberg poll even shows that Nancy Pelosi's approval rate is lower than Newt Gingrich's at the same point in his career as Speaker of the House, 36%-46%. That's surprising, since the media hated Newt even back then, and the MSM is giving the Democrats great press coverage pretty much 24/7 these days. Look at the coverage of Democrat Congressman William Jefferson, for instance. The indictment shows that what Jefferson is charged with collectively add up to the biggest crime any member of Congress has been accused of in modern history. Yet the story is off the news wires already, spending about a day on the front pages. Compare that to coverage of Republicans Tom Delay, Mark Foley., etc. last year. And Gonzales this year, who didn't even commit a crime (stupidity not being a chargeable offense yet)! The press can't cover for the Democrats forever...
Just 27% of Americans now approve of the way Congress is doing its job, the poll found, down from 36% in January, when Democrats assumed control of the House and the Senate. And 63% of Americans say that the new Democratic Congress is governing in a "business as usual" manner, rather than working to bring the fundamental change that party leaders promised after November's midterm election.
The LA Times reporter goes on to blame everything on Republicans, of course, like a good Democratic minion. Congressional Democrats are welcome to believe that at their own peril. I encourage them to do so.
