I once wrote a post on this blog two months ago calling Tom Tancredo a one-issue candidate. I heard from the Tancredo supporters and they weren't too happy.
Well, today I am a Tancredo fan as he pushed through an amendment that has "stunned" Washington D.C. From the Rocky Mountain News:
The U.S. House of Representatives this morning voted to withhold federal emergency services funding for "sanctuary cities" that protect illegal immigrants.
Anti-illegal immigration champion Rep. Tom Tancredo, R-Colo., sponsored the measure, which he says would apply to cities such as Denver and Boulder. He was elated by its passage, which stunned critics and supporters alike.
Not only did it pass, it passed with 50 Democrats crossing over in support. This is a victory for conservatives as a whole and Tancredo in particular. The passage of this amendment could well spell the end of this bill that many on the right have worked extremely hard to kill. If 50 donks crossed, what happens when it comes to voting on the entire bill?
I think the Senate and House are surely feeling the ire of the their constituents and are ducking for cover. They know full-well that they cannot vote for this and get reelected in certain parts of the country. The Blue Dog Dems from the South who were just elected will get voted out in 2008 and they are fully cognizant of that fact.
Tancredo has something to crow about and it may just help him gain some much-needed momentum. More here.

1. Tancredo is the only politician who has the protection of the American people and the sovereignty of the American nation on his agenda. This is an awesome (!) amendment! But boy, are the illegals and their caretakers roiling.....so satisfiying when good prevails for the American citizen and legal immigrants. The one good thing about this bill is that the American people find out who their friends are, and at the same time, who ARE NOT!

2. Perhaps our Congress will actually represent the people, unlike the Senate, who believe that we are fools, unworthy of comment. I really think that we need to seriously begin to get involved more heavily in the PRIMARY process. We let these tyrants get the party nod from the party heads each election. The time has come for members of both parties to take back the congress from these elites. Get rid of any member from either party that votes for this anmesty bill. I have already pledged against Hagel on the Republican side. His challanger is solid...Hagel is a fool. It's sad to say but only about 9 percent of registered primary voters actually vote. This is where the mistakes are made. I still believe that there are people out there willing to represent us...not special interests.. Find them and dump these bums.. Lets clean house in the next primary.

3. ps... stop any contributions to members from either party that supports this amnesty bill> TAKE THE MONEY AWAY AND MAYBE THEY WILL START TO LISTEN TO US.. WE ARE STILL IN CHARGE...AT LEAST UNTIL THE DEMOCRATS OUTLAW FREE SPEECH ..... LAST NIGHT I EMAILED EVERY SINGLE MEMBER OF THE SENATE WITH MY OBJECTION... i'll do so again AND again until they listen...the Nation is at stake. My check to Tancredo goes out tomorrow.

4. Members of the US Senate who are for amnesty hope that by the time they are up for re-elections, how they actually vote on this bill would have been forgotten. Fortunately, members of the House from both parties are keenly aware that their constituents are closely watching how they will vote. It is great to know that this terrible bill will go down if it is not ratified by both chambers of the US Congress. I am totally disgusted by how Bush has been pandering to the Hispanic in the hope of making the GOP the permanent majority. It is wrong and totally despicable to achieve the majority in this manner.

5. joem, I could not agree with you more. Either house or senate members who vote for the amnesty bill should be replaced. But I am not too surprised at the House passing's Tancredo's bill. The House is always said to be the "hot" chamber, and the senate the "cold" one. The hot chamber, with more reps is closer to the people. But what I think it shows, is that Americans, both Dems and Repubs want the immigraiton situation rectified without amnesty, and have let their representatives know it. The real problem now is big business who wants the cheap labor.

6. I am voting for Tancredo for president. He is for the people of this country and I think he will be able to get the country back on track. To all those who voted for the Bush/Kennedy immigration bill, go to hell, I will not vote for any of you. You have made it known that your main purpose is to use cheap labor and to hell with the American people and what we want.

7. TANCREDO NEEDED TO MAKE THE THREAT IN A MORE MEASURED
CONTEXT.
For example, if a dirty bomb kills a million Americans in New York, we have to do something.
Most voters would agree. World Trade was 3,000,
I'm talking a million dead. We hit Medina, the secondary shrine. Hit us again with a similar
death toll and we DO leave a smoking hole in
MECCA. The Kaba Stone is vaporized. No real Moslem
would stand for such a result. as it would raise
the question of Islam being inspired by God. I'm
a general DEIEST, like Thomas Jefferson, God is
in the human heart, not in some physical holy place. The devote muslims would not be consoled
by that idea. TANCREDO needs to revise and extend
his remarks, so that it seems to be predictable
cause and effect. He was trying just to posture
with resolve, and blew it with a too "offhand" remark. Save your shocked reaction... In your heart you know he is basically right!
