Unfortunately not. America's worst president and ex-president is blaming the U.S. and the EU for Hamas' launching a coup against Fatah in Gaza:
"The United States and Israel decided to punish all the people in Palestine and did everything they could to deter a compromise between Hamas and Fatah," he said.
The statement was so malevolent and illogical as to border on insane. Carter wasn't honest enough to say he was rooting for terrorists who started a terrifying new war in the region and trashed what little democratic rule the Palestinians had. Instead, he tut-tutted the West for being insufficiently sensitive to the fact that Hamas thugs were democratically elected in 2006 in an "orderly and fair" vote.
To Jimmy Carter, every vote is "orderly and fair," regardless of the shady circumstances and regardless of the outcome (unless, of course, the outcome is favorable to right-wing candidates as in Nicaragua when Violetta Chamorro beat Daniel Ortega in 1990, but I digress). Carter has coddled dictators and thugs such as Hugo Chavez and Yasser Arafat for years and will continue to do so until he's properly called on it.
The ironic thing is that the very nation backing Hamas is the nation that Carter allowed to hold our hostages for 444 days and gave the infant jihadi movement a glimmer of hope by belittling America and our interests in a part of the world where such things are of great import. Iran pushed us and instead of responding, Carter sat on his hands and allowed our world standing to diminish to the point that the Soviets invaded Afghanistan without even considering our response.
As for the American response to Hamas' electoral victory, the US was completely in the right to withhold funding for an organization whose sole goal is to wipe a neighboring nation off the map. I shudder to think what Carter would have done had he been in power at the time Hamas won the election. Judging by what he's said, he would've given Hamas money and material to build up an even bigger arsenal to attack Israel. Fatah--an only slightly less hostile terror group--would have been co-opted by Hamas and a very dangerous terror state would be sitting on Israel's southern and eastern flank. Based on Carter's animus towards Israel, perhaps that is exactly what he wanted.
Jimmy Carter is a knee-jerk anti-American. He is the prototypical liberal who blames America first and looks past the evil perpetrated by those he coddles. He supports the vile regimes of the aforementioned Chavez, Fidel Castro and now Hamas. Carter has made a post-White House career out of going overseas and disparaging the country that tossed him from power at the first opportunity. He's been making us pay for ousting him ever since.
Update: The New York Times has an op/ed supporting Hamas. They are on the same wavelength as Carter.

1. You can take your criticism of Carter further.
Prior to the camp David peace accords between Carter
Sadat and Begin the Arabs of the west bank and Gaza were called, well, Arabs. Prior to Jordan's conquering of the west bank in 1948 the Arabs there were called, Arabs. In 1967 Israel recovered the holy cities and sites and the Arabs in the area were
still called Arabs. In between 1948 and 67 the Arabs in the area called themselves Jordanian Arabs. When Sirhan-Sirhan killed Robert F. Kennedy he was quoted in the NY TIMES as calling himself a Jerusalem born Jordanian. The Arabs in Israel today call themselves Israeli Arabs. So just where
did "Palestinians" come from.
It was made up by Carter, Sadat, and Arafat.
The Camp David agreement, aside from giving Egypt the Sinai and Israel a piece of paper, gave the Arabs of the west bank and Gaza autonomy. They needed a name, well why not "Palestinians". Just like the "Palestinians" in Gaza are now being called
"Gazans". They just make it up as they go along. There are no Gazans in history and there are no Palestinians in history.
Then the NY Times became obsessed with Palestinians
and wrote lie after lie. They write more about this
falsely named people than about Canada, Russia, and Europe combined. Can an obsessed writer be objective.
So now the goal became not peace between Israel and
Syria, Egypt, Jordan. Which pretty much was in place. But how does Israel deal with a fake people demanding a large part of the Jewish homeland and who are completely uncompromising and violent.
Carter in his anti-Semitic, anti-American stupidity
forced a "Peace Pact" that was to end any hope of
peace for the forseable future.

4. Jimmy Carter is the most respected President of the US that we have ever had. He had good foreign policy and the leaders of other countries...liked him. They visited America...He visited their country...He will go away when God calls him home...just and you and I will and everyone else...

5. Scott, you are gradually convincing me that the man who received my first vote for President, and the only one I ever shook hands with, has flaws. I'm not ready to call him the worst yet, till GWB gets his final grades. But both still have time to redeem themselves.

6. Jimmy Carter worse than gbw? AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!! No President is worse than gbw! Never mind his "final grades"

7. Hope you like the way the Mideast is so peaceful. You can thank Carter and his idiotic thinking for probably 50% of all the carnage that is going on. Remeber when Iran was not a threat (before Carter). His constant stamp of approval for the terrorists isn't very Christian is it? And as has been well documented there isn't a dictator anywhere on earth that he doesn't like. This I suppose is the major reason why the DEMOCRATS love Carter... they are all cut from the same cloth.
LET US NOT FORGET
How about 21% inflation...gas lines 11% unemployment and the Military with machines that couldn't run because he cut defense spending to the point that spare parts ran out...I remember...I lived through this MESS... and is one of the main reasons why I believe that DEMOCRATS are very foolish people...they get led around by the nose and wouldn't know anything about History if they didn't get it from comic books.

Carter is to blame for the mess in the mideast ?
Yes of course - it's ALL the Democrats fault. It always is. Funny how there were 20 years of Republican presidents wrapped around Carters 4 years in office. Didn't realize just how great everything went during those years. The fall of Vietnam, rising inflation, the bombing of the Marine barracks in Lebanon, the rise of terrorism worldwide, the U.S. State Department taking Saddam Hussein OFF the enemies list (against the expressed wishes of Congress) and supporting his assault on his neighbors and his own people, the bombing of Pan Am flight 103 - just a few of the things that occurred during Republican presidencies. We had skyrocketing gas prices and gas lines in the early 70s way before Carter - look it up. We had rising inflation then too - remember President Fords "whip inflation now" campaign ? If a history expert like you "lived through it" you must have been asleep for a good portion of it. Look at the incredible amount of deficit spending done during those years of so-called "conservative" leadership. Check it out - the greatest budget deficits in our history have occurred under Republican Presidents (Reagan, Bush 1, Bush 2). Yet all we keep hearing about are the "tax and spend" Democrats. There's some truth in that but what we have now are "spend and spend" Republicans. As far as I'm concerned BOTH parties need to be watched like hawks but I think most people have heard enough of this Democrats-bad Republicans-good simpleton nonsense. What's happened these past few years is proof enough that it's pure BS. Yet the spinning goes on and on.
And speaking of liking dictators - maybe you haven't noticed the Bush administrations recent lovefest with Colonel Gaddafi of Libya. Nothing like sucking up to one of the greatest terrorists in modern history in the middle of the war on terror. Apparently some have already forgotten Saddam. Gaddafi hasn't - he's planning to erect a statue honoring his dear departed friend. Maybe it's just his way of thanking us for making nice with him and helping him out. But just wait a few years - that will probably end up being all the Democrats fault too. At least to some people.

9. MAX... please read some history that does not have comic book written on the cover...very few of your rebuttals had anything to do with The Mideast. Those that did were aftereffects and not root causes..How does Ford's win campaign have anything to do with the rise of Islamic Fascists in Iran...or Iraq's surge to fill the power void after the Carter aided in fall of the Shah?...Liberals ,I am convinced are just angry foolish children so caught up in their hatred of everything but their own agenda, that facts alude their tenacious grasp upon ignorance.

"Comic book written on the cover" ? OK - we'll try to respond to this anyway.
Who said Fords WIN campaign had anything to do with the mideast ? Read your own post. You were complaining about gas lines and inflation and implying they were solely the work of Jimmy Carter. Those of us that were around then know differently - gas lines and inflation were here well before Carter. Maybe you were too busy back then reading comic books yourself - you sound like you could be a big Jughead fan.
Our propping up Saddam in 1982 and the bombing of Marine barracks in Lebanon in 1983 and our subsequent withdrawal had nothing to do with the mideast ? What in the hell are you talking about ? Our supporting Saddam and our departure from Lebanon were two major turning points in Mideast policy in the 80s. Do you remember there was a Gulf War 1 before the current Iraq War ? Or did all of our problems in the region just magically go away from 1981 to 1993 ? And what exactly do you call a "root cause" - something like our involvement with the overthrow of the Iranian government in 1953 ? Or was that an "aftereffect" too ? Ever think that that might have had a little something to do with our later problems with Iran ? But I'm sure somehow you'll find a way to blame Carter - it seems that's the only thing you know how to do. Saddam was hung for crimes that he committed in 1982 against his own people - 1982 was the very same year the U.S. State Department took him OFF the enemies list and gave him arms to help him raise hell in the region. Catch the irony there ? At least Carter had the sense not to go out of his way and AID a brutal dictator. It seems to escape you that this was the same Saddam Hussein that we just had to take out because he was an "imminent danger" in the region. OOPS - better make that Iran that's now the real problem there. And Syria. Just remember that the Saudis are your "friends". And Libya. No dictators there and freedom and democracy are on the way in those places. But it's a good thing we installed a Shia run Islamic Republic in Iraq - that should help keep Iran away and discourage Islamic extremists. Sure it will - look at some of the other Islamic Republics in the world - Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iran.
No problems there - right ?
What's next - you want to tell everyone how ol' Colonel Gaddafi is "cured" and has changed after over three decades of practicing terrorism ? Wingnuts believe in their own muddled version of reality but have a very difficult time dealing with the actual truth. The current situation in Iraq is a good example of this - a new reason every other day for the war but in reality no real plan existed. 5 years after the start of the war the administration decides to appoint a "war czar". Does that tell you anything ? But go ahead and continue to pretend that everything was just fine except for the 4 years when Carter was office. You'll be in trouble if another Republican is elected President next year - just who are you gonna blame for everything ?
By the way - it's ALLUDE with two Ls. It was in your last sentence - the one in which you said something about a grasp on ignorance.
