How will the commutation (pardon) of Scooter Libby play in various parts of the country. For another opinion, I turned to the "Dan Stein Report." He is saying that immigration reformers are asking:
"Why Scooter Libby gets his sentence commuted while Border Patrol agents Ramos and Compean, and Texas Sheriff Hernandez remain jailed."
Ramos and Compeon shot a drug smuggler. Some of the details of the shooting are as follows:
"When Border Patrol Agent Ignacio Ramos pulled the trigger last February, (2006) all he knew was that his partner was lying on the ground behind him – bloodied from a struggle with a fleeing suspect – shots had been fired and now, it appeared, the drug smuggler he was pursuing had turned toward him with what looked to be a gun in his hand."
"In the split-second he had to respond, Ramos determined the course of his and his partner's lives – federal prison for the next 20 years for assault with serious bodily injury, assault with a deadly weapon, discharging of a firearm in relation to a crime of violence, violating civil rights and obstruction of justice."
They face a minimum ten-year sentence.
It seems that these guys were doing there job. Shot a person who was violating the law and now could be sent to prison. The case has received much publicity.
It seems that there case for commutation or pardon is much stronger than that which was given to Scooter Libby.

2. Unless there are some hidden facts supporting the convictions, it appears to be a cut and dry case for commuting the sentences at least.
What's missing?

3. Why don't we just ask Scooter Libbey to put a good word in to the President about "pardoning" the Border Patrol Agents? And while he's at it, lets ask him not to forget that, along with pardons, these guys will need some help with medical bills, counciling, a job, and recovery from financial ruin.

4. George Bush should pardon these 2 border agents. They did their job.
What about their families - their wives and their children. Bush feels so sorry for poor ole Libby and his wife and children and Libby and he hadn't served even one minute of his time.
Dig a little deeper with all your soul searching, Mr. President, and do the right thing. Pardon these men.

5. tHOSE POOR BOARDER agents were doing there jobs and alot better then our traitor politions at the top, Bush, Kennedy and McCain not to mention Libby. They should receive medals for doing a great job. To give them jail time for it is a crime in itself. The judge who sentenced them should be disbarred. To put these poor guys in jail is criminal. What message are they sending to the rest of our boarder patrol agents? iF THEY COULD BE ALOUD TO DO THIS TO THEM THEN MAYBE IT IS THE RIGHT THING TO DO BY SENDING lIBBY TO THE ELECTRIC CHAIR FOR BEING A TRAITOR TO HIS COUNTRY. BUSCH AND CHANNEY SHOULD ALSO BE TRIED FOR TREASON FOR NOT LET OUR BOARDER PATROL AGENTS DO THERE JOB IN PEACE. GOD BLESS AMERICA.

6. THE JUDGE WHO IMPOSED THIS REDICULUS SENTENCE SHOULD BE DISBARRED. THE BOARDER PATROLL AGENTS WERE JUST DOING THERE JOBS. THE ONLY CRIMINALS HERE ARE THE SNEAKY SOBS CROSSING OUR BOARDER ILLEGALY. THEY SHOULD BE GIVEN MEDALS NOT JAIL. THIS IS STUPID AND DUMB. WE NEED MORE AGENTS LIKE THESE NO LOCK THE POOR GUYS UP. PERHAPS LIBBY SHOULD GET THE ELECTRIC CHAIR FOR TREASON NOT BE PARDONED BY MR BUSCH AND CHANNY. THE JUDGE SHOULD BE DISBARRED AND BUSCH AND HIS BUDDY SHOULD BE THROWN OUT OF OFFICE. FOR NOT BACKING UP THESE MEN FOR DOING A GREAT JOB.

7. Sounds like the above posters imagine a 'border patrol agent' job is to shoot people for "breaking the law"
Thats a job I never heard of. Shots are fired in defense, legally, or under whatever other lawful context, but NEVER as 'part of the job'. Even the military does not shoot people as 'part of the job'-people get killed in the course of gaining objectives, etc.
there is no "license to kill- at least not by cops of any description.

8. For some perspective, go to http://www.usdoj.gov/opa/pardonchartlst.htm and look at the pardons of Democratic President Bill Clinton in just ONE DAY.
Not only did Clinton pardon the same offense: "False statements to agency of United States", but also drug dealers, corporate embezzlers, money laundering, tax evasion, mail, bank and wire fraud, bribery, securities fraud, welfare fraud, voter fraud, perjury, forgery, racketeering, bank robbery...and even a pardon of his own brother!
Why no mention in the main stream media of a little perspective?

9. we all know that pardoning these patrol agents will not happen...because it does not help bush with his immigration/amnesty bill. bush is to worried about offending the illegals and mexico to care about our American agents. bush does not care about the American vote...he has only 1 year left and is not going to do anything any different. remember...bush bankrupted all the companies his daddy bought for him, and he is going to do to America what he does best...bankrupt it! no crumbs for those patrol agents.

10. Hope they impeac both. This has gone far enough.
Caught in lies like they can check 12million illegals out in 24 hours but it takes weeks to get a passport. Do they really think we Americans are stupid?
