I agree completely with Ed Morrissey of Captains Quarters: Republicans and Conservatives tempted to crack on Al Gore's family problems should remember the Bush twins were busted for underage drinking and that Jeb Bush's daughter has had huge problems.
What's been giving this story real legs so to speak is that Al Gore III was caught in a Prius going 100 mph. First, it appears that the Gore family believes in what Senior Gore is selling. A Toyota Prius is probably not the most ideal mode of locomotion for a twenty-something young man.
But on the other hand, it was going 100 mph? Who knew hybrids could go that fast? A subtle piece of advertising for hybrid technology amongst a personal tragedy... could be.
As for the kid, I'm sure his parents Al and Tipper are pained and grieved by his actions, and I won't be shocked when we find out later that the Bushes and others reached out to Al privately to encourage him in light of their experiences with their own problem children.

1. To be honest, I've used illegal drugs in the distant past, and have driven over 100 mph, but in a 1968 Firebird, not a Prius. I'm not proud of it, in fact I paid a heavy price. But I've learned that people who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.

This really isn't news. I don't like Al Gore, but when kids get into trouble it's really not the the public's business.
