The Weekly Believe It or Not Roundup

Who was the first U.S. senator to endorse Rudy Giuliani? Who serves as his Southern Regional Coordinator? Trick question that one. It's the same person. The answer happens to be just another phone number for the D.C. Madam: Sen. David Vitters. To make matters worse, Rudy's South Carolina coordinator was arrested recently on cocaine charges. I imagine they might be re-visiting some of their appointments in that campaign. Or are they?

John McCain's campaign is in meltdown. He's running on empty, with his key advisers apparently forced out. Who knows what he is going to do next? The former front runner is now not so much.

Meanwhile, Mitt Romney's aide (who has been with him a few years) left the campaign after being exposed as a guy who likes to play cop and pull people over (generally women).

Do you know who Wellpoint is? Most Americans don't. I didn't. Turns out they own Anthem Blue Cross and their CFO was allowed to leave when it came out he was banging 15 employees at the same time (must have gotten his Viagra on the cheap). Wellpoint and its top management are big Republican donors.

Meanwhile, Alberto 'top dog' Gonzales claimed before Congress not long ago that there were zero violations of the Patriot Act when it turns out he had already been briefed on several egregious transgressions.

His boss has fallen even further in the polls. 66%-70% of Americans want our troops out of Iraq (and the sooner the better) and the same number think President Bush should not have interfered in the Scooter Libby matter. 6% say he should have pardoned Libby. Just wait, that will happen.

Lastly? President Bush said "we're at war" about four years after a banner behind him announced "Mission Accomplished." Months into the surge, it's still the same strategy: Stay indefinitely.

What's ahead? I'd keep an eye out for more phone numbers and names on the D.C. Madam's list -- from both parties, mind you, but the biggest name will be the former CEO of a well-known firm connected with war profiteering who awarded his management team with the Madam's services. How's that for a corporate perk?
