John Edwards is not gaining any support of men by having his wife, Elizabeth Edwards, constantly fighting his battles. First it was his ongoing battle against Ann Coulter, now she's fighting his fight against Hillary Clinton:
Elizabeth Edwards is again making sharper comments on the presidential campaign trail than any of the actual candidates, giving a particularly pointed critique yesterday of Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton.
In an interview with Salon.com, Mrs. Edwards said Mrs. Clinton was not as vocal an advocate for women's issues as she wished she were and lanced what she said was a suggestion by the Clinton campaign that people vote for Mrs. Clinton because she is a woman.
Besides the fact that she may be right -- John Edwards does seem to have unusual insight into women's issues -- the fact that she is increasingly fighting the nastier fights for her husband can do nothing but hurt Edwards. It will bring up the same issues as were raised when Hillary was on the campaign trail with Bill in 1992 -- who exactly are we electing, Bill or Hillary Clinton? Unfortunately, we ended up with both but that's a topic for another day.
But Scott you may say, didn't Clinton win? Yes dear reader, he did. The difference is that Bill Clinton was far more superior a politician than John Edwards and established his masculinity in spite of the ever-present Hillary. What has Edwards done to distinguish himself thus far? He's known by the majority of the electorate for paying up to $1,250 for a hairstylist to fly in and cut his perfect locks. I guess there's that whole caring for the poor thing, but a man who lives in a mansion and pays stupid amounts of money on a haircut can't be taken seriously on that count, now can he?
Take my advice John, Elizabeth is smart and well-spoken but I'd ask her to tone it down for awhile, you have a little problem with proving your manhood and it's not helping to have your wife stand up for you at every turn. Dude, consider it free advice from a blogger who has not been fired by you (yet). They don't call you "Silky Pony" for nothing.
Update (7/19/07 0610): Exactly how does Edwards care more about womens issues? His healthcare plan covers abortions 100%. That's nice, a procedure that has been scientifically shown to lead to depression for women who have them will be covered by John and Elizabeth's healthcare boondoggle. That's supporting women alright.

3. Scott, the key to winning is the right message and the right person. Clinton won, but he screwed up our political system by putting the man over the party. By demanding loyalty to defend the indefensible, Democrats have suffered unnecessarily for the last decade. What America doesn't know is Democrats have won on message, but the man keeps knocking us down. Democrats defeated Republicans on message with Gore, Kerry and we are shaping the race with Edwards and "Two Americas." Clinton told Gore, "I've got a job!" Clinton tripped Kerry after he was ahead after the first debate. Billary is staging a coup to derail the Democrats in 2008. I provided the message for Democrats in all these elections. I led the drive to impeach Clinton too. Billary is winning because they are keeping me in the shadows. I'm the Poor General behind Edward's message. In 2004, I said, "Who's looking out for the poor?" I also said, "The only two endorsements that you need are Oprah Winfrey and Barbara Streisand." I unleashed the power of words and I haven't received credit. My book of poetry is the bomb. The Patriot Act won't let anyone print it.

4. Earth to Scott......
Abortion has nothing to do with Pres. Politics !!!!!
If you don't like funding for family planning, move to Mexico.
I think you had better give up your muttled, incoherant, troglodite argument for adoption.
Rather, in your hypocritical sand dune you call a brain, I think you would be better served to go slap around Nancy Reagan with a coathanger for asking for stem cell funding, too.
Oh, did I touch a Republican Idol Worship nerve...too bad...call a fuckin' astrologer and find out how much crow you will be eating November 2008.
Ok....Vote Both Edwards in '08

5. Hey Manny,
While perusing my "Trogodyte Dictionary", I came upon a new entry:
Manfred: adj. A person typical of the hard-core liberal persuasion. You can detect effects of mannyism by noting the absence of any sense in statements, being stupendously wrong on any and all issues and the bitterness noted in anything they say. Not known as a happy person.
Manny, I'm neither a fundamentalist Christian nor a an opponent of most stem cell research. As for abortion in Presidential politics, why then would Edwards (the alfa-male type one--Elizabeth) say she'd include it in their healthcare plan? You complete lack of understanding of the issues is astounding--even after all the inane comments you've made previously.
Thanks for reading and commenting though.

6. Elizabeth Edwards is more of a man than her wimpy husband will ever be... but we are not voting for Elizabeth Edwards.
And Lizzie she spouts off again, she should do a little research. Hillary has championed MANY women's issues including programs to raise women out of poverty, championing women in leadership roles, protections for women's reproductive issues, and health care funding for women's health issues.
Sorry, Liz, you're just wrong and your attacks are NOT helping your delicate husband.

7. Um, Manfred--I think the nomination of Supreme Court justices has something to do with the President of the United States, but I'd have to check the Constitution. Or you do, more likely.
get back to me if Planned Parenthood, NOW, Emily's List, and NARAL Pro-Choice America keep their mouths shut about presidential politics. if we hear nary a peep, I'll give you a thousand dollars.
Also, nice language.
As for the original article, who writes this pathetic pablum ("Scott"?!)? There have been an awful lot of wealthy Americans, from Andrew Carnegie, to Bill Gates, to Bobby and Ted Kennedy, John D. Rockefeller IV, to George H.W. Bush (for those doubters--look at the effects of the EITC he pushed) who have done impressive and commendable work for the poor while being comfortable themselves. Are you ignorant or just a demagogue?

8. C & Scott,
Ok, maybe I did insult Nancy,to whom I bear no ill will. In fact I like her tenacity. But isn't the Republican, self-righteous, seudo-Christian facade blown to more peices than the Reichshtag in 1945.
This dog won't hunt no more...boys...
Edwards and wife are both stupendously knowlegable on most relavent issues and Healthcare is important to me!!!
Ok, gents lets get real.
The composition of the Supreme Court will not change over the course of the next four years, nor has any court even considered an overturn of Roe v. Wade in some 34 years...
We already have 30 prisons in CA.....more fatherless children does not our society need...Sorry...
Again, nothing to do with Presidential Politics !!!!! I have my copy of the Constitution next to my Bible & 40 anniv. latest edition of Rolling Stone..
For the sake of every thinking Christian, the Catholic Bishops and all Scott-like GOP Robots need to take a vacation to the Azores this election cycle.... Ever hear of Separation of Church & State?
An ugly alternative should stay safe and legal and most of the electorate knows it is just a hot button that gets pushed every 4 years and means nothing in practical terms to anyone.... money well spent..
So Scott, I hear Ann Coulter's boney ass needs a docile travelling companion around next October
Bon Voyage !!!

9. i dont understand why everyone cares so much about the involvement of Elizabeth Edwards. I think taking on Ann Coulter is something that everyone wanted, does anyone honestly want to continue to listen to that ignorant "pundit" who manages to call everyone a fag.
All we hear from Hillary Clinton in the debates is "when i was first lady i did this and that...".
