Thank you, Representative Peter King (R-N.Y.), for staying with this and pushing through an important amendment to an important bill. The "John Doe" provision will protect those who believe they see a terrorist incident being planned and report it to authorities. It sounds like everyone would agree that it is a good thing... that is everyone but the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR) and the Democrats they support.
It sounds also as though King didn't have to give up too much in negotiations either:
The House Republican leader, Rep. John Boehner of Ohio, and Rep. Peter King, a Republican of Long Island, said last night that they had reached agreement to include what has become known as the "John Doe" amendment in the final version of a major homeland security bill to implement the recommendations of the commission established to investigate the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.
The bill is currently in a House-Senate conference committee, and a deal will be announced today.
The legislation to protect those who contact the authorities about potential crimes arose from a lawsuit supported by CAIR for the so-called "Flying Imams" who were acting strangely like the 9/11 groups led by Mohammed Atta, Marwan al-Shehhi and seventeen others. The moniker "John Doe" comes from the fact that those who reported the imam's behavior were not identified.
Granted, the Imam case turned out to be nothing as they were released, but what of the Mount Laurel, N.J. clerk who saw jihadi activities on a video and grew suspicious enough to call the local police who then contacted the FBI? His actions prevented a terror attack. Would he have come out if he knew he could be sued by someone with the power of CAIR behind them?
As for Rep. King, many who perished in the World Trade Center came from his district so this is personal to him. He has been an absolute bulldog on this issue and won out because it was the right thing. Those who were against such legislation knew that they would be hammered with it come 2008 and caved.

1. First of All Hillary Clinton would not be my choice after her lack of self respect for herself with her husband's betrayal as president. Now our children think the oral sex is o.k. and not a sexual act.
Second, I don't think we should be considering a foreigner, regardless of citizenship in our Country or not, becoming President of the United States of America.
Where would his concern be, Foreign Grounds or American soil. Would he honestly protect our American Citzens.
As with Gonzales, I don't trust him and never will, how President Busch could appoint him Atty Gen of Our Country is beyond comprehension.
As for the liberals and conservatives in this country, our country is falling apart. Our government is with such greed and lack of respect for the working class in American it's pathetic.
We need to get back to basics, our family lives are falling by the wayside and our economy is at distruction.
Now with illegals immigrants, already New Haven Ct has given ID cards to illegals, this is appalling. We can't take care of our own homeless and here we are giving our country away to the Mexican illegals, this is unheard of in my time of life. The German, Italian, Chinese, that entered our country studied hard to become American Citzens. The Mexcian expect us to give them everything on a silver platter and they do little to earn this right to American Citzenship. Hello Government, You people are changing our language to include Spanish in everything you do, hello, I don't see German, Italian or Chinese languages posted anywhere. What makes the Mexcian think this should be done for them.
My biggest regret with our Country as I see it now, my life will be gone soon, I feel, deeply sympathetic to our grandchildren they will have to be part of whatever will be in the next twenty years. I don't see anything good happening in our futuer government other than GREED.
Budget cuts, start at the pocket books of our government officals, the lack of work they do, plus the compensation they receive after their retired from office and looking even farther ahead at the pension their families received after their deaths. This is GREED!!!!
Government officials pay for nothing! They couldn't comprehend what the working class has to endure.

2. This law is important. I only hope they are watching the enormous influct of muslims in this country and the extreme building of mosques in every city, now asking for certain religious sinks for washing their feet a t taxpayers exppense. Why are they coming here, they don't like our way of living or religion. They have infested every city, put up huge mosques, no lack of money, wera their tradtional dress?????????/ I think they are slowly, metodically, arming, digging below these mosques, harbor terroists, under the disguise of their religion. You can't tell me these are all american citizens. they are building this to be an another arab nation no longer american. They demand things in their religion that we are supposed to put up with disregarding out faiths. hiding under first amendment, I think they all should be monitered and watched very closely. They wany only the quran, their mode of dress, their lanuage, this is a real problem, the money comes from foreign countries for all the building. They run their so called litle shops while all the while working against the american people.
