Money and politics. Mother's milk. The stuff campaigns are made of. Campaigns are more than a candidate driving around the country and being their own advance and press person (ask John McCain). Campaigns have staff in a large number of states. More staff in the early states. Money for TV ads. Endless, expensive campaigns all designed to break thru the clutter of the unaware voter. At least we will have all that until we have clean elections at the federal level. Based on Fred Thompson's fundraising effort slump coming out of the gate, he may want clean elections sooner rather than later. From the Politico:
Fred Thompson plans to announce Tuesday that his committee to test the waters for a Republican presidential campaign raised slightly more than $3 million in June, substantially less than some backers had hoped, according to Republican sources.Substantially less? According to many right wing pundits Thompson would raise boatloads and take over the Republican race. In the light of Thompson's anemic fundraising efforts (apparently he doesn't like to actually do the work), some are 're-evaluating' their opinion:
Some are already saying a prospective Thompson run is a flop. "I just don't see it anymore," said a key Republican who had been extremely enthusiastic about a Thompson candidacy. "That number is really underwhelming. There were indications it could be double that. They've been saying that people were waiting for Fred, and the money was going to pour in. He looks like he's already losing momentum."

1. I think maybe you are stumbling "coming out of the gate' with this story that hopes to write off the next POTUS. Had you done your research about the funds raised in the first month by other candidates of the Republican flavor you would find the following: In his first exploratory month, Thompson over $3 million. That's more than 10 times what Giuliani did in his first month and 3 times what McCain accomplished. Hmmm...and Fred's had his red truck parked since '99. Not too shabby.
Initial exploratory month totals follow:
Giuliani raised $258,660 in his first month (Nov. 15-Dec. 15)
McCain raised $1,130,351 in his first month (Nov. 14-Dec. 14)
Their political trucks ain't nearly as rusty. There's a landslide a comin boys; especially if Billary gets the nod.

2. A lot can be done with $3 million, and the right other stuff.

3. Whether he runs or not, Republican party is doomed for 2008 election. After all the failures of Bush-Cheney administration, with no oversight by Republican Congress, to expect any Republican to win the White House is 2008 is day-dreaming.

6. Other than where they want to fight the next war, or how fast they want to print money, or how fast they want to align US/Can/Mex in the North American Union - there is no difference between the candidates. All are globalist bent on the destruction of America, except one - RON PAUL.
