To 21 percentage points, to be exact, and it seems as though she's gaining. Also, in a head-to-head with Rudy Giuliani, or with Barack Obama, she wins:
Mrs. Clinton would beat Mr. Giuliani by six points, 47% to 41%; Mr. Obama would win by five, 45% to 40%. The results are nearly identical to those in the June poll. The latest poll, of 1,005 adults Friday to Monday, has a margin of error of 3.1 percentage points.
In a three-way contest among Mrs. Clinton, Mr. Giuliani and New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg running as an independent, the poll shows Mrs. Clinton winning with 42% of the vote to Mr. Giuliani's 34% and Mr. Bloomberg's 11%. That suggests Mr. Bloomberg -- who hasn't declared his candidacy -- would steal more support from the Republican than from the Democrat.
Again, this is polling done 15-months before the election and the applicable grains of salt should be taken, but the fact that Hillary Clinton is polling so well at this time shows that she has very good advisors and political acumen.
It should be interesting to see what happens should she win the nomination as she has not been anti-war enough for the hard-left (who has?) and they are a large portion of the support she'll need in the general. Will they hold their noses and vote Hillary anyway?
On the GOP side, Fred Thompson is only hurting himself by waiting to announce, the luster has gone off and he may have blown any significant bounce he would have received. It will come down to Thompson and Giuliani and Rudy has run a good campaign to this point (so good in fact that the liberal bastion Vanity Fair has written a hit piece against his wife).
The campaigns, for all the candidates, are constantly changing and the fall/winter months will be the time where they are successful or fall by the wayside. Expect only Clinton, Obama, perhaps Edwards and Richardson to survive through Christmas with Giuliani, Thompson and perhaps Romney on the GOP side. Third-tier candidates like Gravel and Paul may hold on but will be of no consequence except to take up time in debates.

19. Look into Hillary and Bill's littlt escapades of wrong doing. The latest this low piece of humanity is doing is trying to gain info on plans of troop withdrawl. She only wants it to use against Bush in her on going campaign while meanwhile it could endanger our troops. She has no right to know classified info. This woman is on the bottom of the human life chain, sounds a little like a traitor to me also she is coming loose at the seams in the brain. There is nothing or no one she wouldn't sell out to to become president it's looking like. How dare she think that she is the least little that important. troops are protecting her butt while she is here selling them out.

21. Think its time for a woman to be President? Does it matter .. and/or is it the person .. not the gender. So who do you support? Are you to the right, left .. center? Do you change your mind from day to day .. or are you set to vote? In truth each of us have free choice. Its something we have had a long time .. and its all around freedom. It would seem that while we must be ready and willing to make sure there are no bully's on the school yard .. we must also be leaders in helping the world come to realize we are here, within the earth illuions, learning to communicate, create and come to love one another. There is a guy I would vote for if he presented himeslf .. but until then .. click on www.jesusmeetsthepress.com and see what he has to say.

22. I cannot believe anyone who actually is upset that Hillary asked for plans for withdrawal. If anything, this shows how ready she is to lead. She is not even president yet and she is taking the responsible steps to try to bring our troops home. If no one else will plan for withdrawal, she will. These are not classified secret documents. Many times in the past, senators have had meetings with the pentagon to discuss war strategy. This is just another example of politicizing. Hillary is the only candidate so far that is doing the research and trying to dig up some actual facts so she can plan how to bring our troops home. Unfortunately for Obama, Edwards, the other democrats, and even Ron Paul, saying you want the troops home is not going to bring them home. You have to prepare well in advance and make sure the war can be ended safely and responsibly.

24. If the public can't see the future, someone needs to try to clear the crystal ball. Why is everyone rushing to earn the nomination? November 2008 is the election. October 2008 is reserved for the last minute surprise. September 2008 is reserved for the memory and sick celebration of 9-11. August is the Olympics and all the drama created by tensions in China. July is a patriotic month led by the 4th and it's a convention month. The point of all this is the election will be decided by June 2008 unless a real choice is offered. Something that offers us hope, respect, security, and equal opportunity. The wrong selection by Democrats will get destroyed on the security issue. Jeb Bush waits in the wings. Sometimes you can't hire a woman to do what was traditionally a man's job. Hillary is not the right woman. The right woman or black as VP could provide hope and excitement? She's "Bush-lite" and a loser. A Black man against war is a non starter. He must be Colin Powell or Dr. Martin Luther King and Obama isn't a General or a Leader. What has he done? Billary's lead expands because it looks like we don't have a real choice.

WE ARE IN BIG TROUBLE IF GIVE-AWAY HILL GETS IN OFFICE, LETS SEE SHE WILL OPEN THE GATES FROM S-AMERICA, GIVE ALL OUR MONEY AWAY TO THE COUNTRYS THAT WANT TO KILL US,MAKE THOSE OF US THAT PAY TAXES GO BROKE BECAUSE YOU KNOW EVERYONE NEEDS TO HAVE BABIES THAT THEY CAN NOT TAKE CARE OF SO THE REST OF US MUST DO IT. OF COURSE SHE LIVES IN A PRIVATE AREA WHILE THE REST OF US WILL HAVE TO DEAL WITH THE REAL WORLD, BONNIE

27. This article is a rediculous assumption. A lot can happen in the time until the primaries and election. The "lower tier" candidates bring different views and actually WANT TO DEBATE rather than spew propoganda.
Hilary Clinton is just as evil as Bush but in different ways. She will socialize this country and the government will be involved in every aspect of your life, including what your kids may or may not consume.
Ron Paul 2008! Remove dictatorship! Restore the Republic!

28. I am sorry, but Hillary is not what this country needs right now. She is going to be on the opposite side of Bush (except maybe on foreign policy) and continue dividing the county (and the world from us). What we need is a new face, a breath of fresh air, one who is a life long unifier. Barack Obama, that is what this country needs!!!!!!!!!!!
Theresa at 9:12PM on Aug 2nd 2007
29. Thank you, Carole!
I am sick and tired of people hating Hillary for no good reason. Unless you can actually produce a reason, supported by actual example of why you don't like Hillary, I will never understand why you waste your breath.
And it's true. Despite crazy wingnuts attacking everything from her speeches to her hair to her attire, she's the one whose rising in the polls and probably the most likely candidate of both parties to become the next president of this country! Now, is there a single wingnut out there who can say that they actually BEAT Hillary Rodham Clinton? Nope.
So I just wish that people could take a good long look at this woman and all the people who hate her. Then, maybe they can figure out that there might actually be an excellent reason that she wins everything and that she is successful one. (Hint: It has nothing to do with Bill.)
Perhaps...maybe she's just a really good politician? Maybe she actually has more morals than you, given that she's not the one with the dagger. And maybe, given the chance, she can be a decent leader...is that so shocking?

30. Go Hillary !!! She has what it takes to get this country back on track. She was the First Lady for eight years and used her political acumen to better this country as well the lives of oppressed women living in foreign countries. Then she is elected and RE-ELECTED as a US Senator. She already knows the ins' and outs' of the government (know matter how screwed up we all know it is !!) and has the experience the other candidates do not have. She is also married to one of our most outstanding Presidents'. When Bill Clinton left office the country was out of debt with a surplus, unemployment was low, and there was peace. Hillary was definitely a part of that. I sincerely hope that she will be our next President.
