It is no secret that Rudy Giuliani's children aren't big fans of "America's Mayor/Deadbeat Dad" (I noted a while ago that his son appears to have coordinated a hit piece in the New York Times on his own father -- ouch). But this really does have to be, without a doubt, the most destructive story line I've ever encountered regarding a candidate.
This morning, Slate runs a piece highlighting Caroline Giuliani's support for Barack Obama. The sad thing about this for Rudolph is that Caroline was the reserved one of the two children in terms of her outspokenness on their dad's campaign. She refused comment it appears.
But it's also clear she has good reason for her stance in the race. While dad didn't skip her high school graduation (like he did with her brother), he did leave without talking to her.
Still, good reasons or not, having your own children supporting your political opponents has to hurt. I'm wondering when someone's actually going to ask Rudolph about this.

1. If you haven't already seen this I thought you might be interested; especially after my comments about Giuliani last night. Sad for both father and daughter.

2. Guliani's offspring opinions of their father are instrumental in keeping him from becoming a viable [Presidential]candidate!
Since a US is President is, among other things, a "father/parent" figure to the American people, having a natural offsprings cast her/his support behind the opposition does not bode well for a candidate. Adding his offspring opposition to him as a Presidential candidate, to all his other bagage, Guliani is not likely to even win the Republican nomination...

3. If you want a president who will make good moral choices for your country, then look at his or her track record in life, and you should find good moral choices in regard to his family and friends. His own children can't support him. That should tell you enough about what kind of person he is deep down. He walked out on his family. He left his wife when she was sick. How low and selfish can a person be? He has no regard for his own kind.
He is simply running on the America's emotions following 9/11. That is stooping even lower. Anyone would have done what he did to help their city because of being a paid employee who HAD to. HE knew where it would benefit him.
Let's start getting picky about choosing our president instead of falling for all their schemes. Enough with the games!

4. I think that there are so many ignorant citizens in our country which is evidenced by even think that Guliani could be pesident of our great Nation. Here is a man - Guliani - who did what was expected of him during the 911 crisis. However, did not have the proper equipment in place for those firemen and police officers who lost their lives, who has distanced himself from the health predicament of those that survived - of course there is no narcissistic glory on that. A man - Guliani - whose moral values are so rotten, which is evidenced by his cowardly attitude re. bringing and sleeping with his mistress in the same house where his wife and children lived and slept. Such a father - one that his own children disowned him.

6. Everyone is forgetting one important point. The fallout and consequences of a divorce include one parent turning the children against the other. It is relatively easy to do at that age and is destructive to the victim parent. I'm sure Donna Guiliani is enjoying this immensely, but the children will carry the psychological scars forever.

7. I'm a native New Yorker. Giuliani was there during
the 9/11 crisis....of course. It was his job. He's
been living off that ever since. I just read comments with regard of how he distanced himself from the health crisis that followed. It was shameful...it still is. Please take time and see
the movie Sicko..believe me, it's related. Amazing
that he's leading the Democrats. That's good. Will
shoe in the Democrats!!! No matter what, if they
(everyone) fix the voting machines, it just won't
matter who the Democrat candidate is.

8. ARE YOU PEOPLE SERIOUS??? RUDY GIULIANIs KIDS ARE OBVIOUSLY SOUR OVER THE DIVORCE OF THEIR PARENTS, AND MAYBE RIGHTFULLY SO. BUT HIS POOR MARITAL CHOICES DO NOT MAKE HIM A POOR PRESIDENTAL CANDIDATE. FURTHERMORE IS THERE A CANDIDATE WHO HAS MADE ALL THE RIGHT CHOICES IN THEIR LIFE???? C'MON RUDY IN '08 IS THE BEST CHOICE, HE IS THE ONLY CANDIDATE WHO WOULD HANDLE THE WAR ON TERROR "OFFENSIVELY" GIULIANI'08 !!!!!!1

9. Giuliani is leading in the polls on the Republican side. Will America elect a president or had an affairwho had an affair? What are all of those right wing "family values" Republicans saying, i.e. Bill Bennett, Pat Buchannan, and many others. Such hypocrisy! And don't scapegoat Bill Clinton. Giuliani was in office too. I guess being a Mormon is worst.

10. Good news is she's backing a loser. Family opinions are unimportant, especially when it comes from a broken home. There are always 2 sides to every problem, and I'm sure there are in Rudy's family also. Look at the Clintons, does anyone believe there is love in that family?
Jack at 1:22PM on Aug 7th 2007
11. Ronald Regan had many differences with his children. Is he considered one of the greatest presidents in recent history? Rudy is the BEST candidate for our times!
Nap at 1:58PM on Aug 7th 2007
12. THE FACT THAT RUDY'S OWN CHILDREN (WHO KNOW HIM BETTER THAN ANYONE) DO NOT SUPPORT HIM FOR PRESIDENT IS VERY TELLING INDEED. HE PUBLICLY DISGRACED THEM AND TRIED TO HAVE THEIR MOTHER REMOVED FROM THE GOVERNERS MANSION SO HE COULD MOVE HIS GIRLFRIEND IN. IF YOU'RE LOOKING FOR SOMEONE WITH FAMILY VALUES..RUDY IS NOT IT.

13. I am with SAM (1:07 Aug 7). If at first you
don't suceed, try again! If Bill Clinton can still
be "popular" after what he did, and Hilary supported
him - what is wrong with Rudy correcting his mistakes
the correct & legal way? GO RUDY !!!!!

14. His kids are only doing this to hurt him. Shame on them. They were little brats when he first became Mayor of N.Y. and they have not changed. My husband has to miss many of my childrens functions, they are not bitter, they know dad is a very important man & we sometimes have to share him. Too bad Rudy's kids did not learn that from their also bitter mom.
Molly at 1:43PM on Aug 7th 2007
15. Are you kidding me? After Clinton and his, what, 100 affairs your going to fault Giuliani a conflict with his kids. Gimme a break... You Dems will grab any straw to polarize this country. Dont pretend to have morals at this late in the game!
