So then how do we square this idea with his other recent statements that there should be an amendment to the constitution banning the practice of abortion? If he views abortion as murder, then clearly states like Nevada or New York or California should not be allowed to practice the procedure. Pregnancies caused by rape? Incest? Why make exceptions for them? After all, or so the thinking goes, doesn't a second crime simply compound the first? Moreover, how does Romney reconcile the seeming discrepancy between the States' Rights view and his proposed Federal ban on abortion? From today's Washington Post:
Top Romney advisers insisted yesterday that their candidate's statements on abortion this month were consistent with each other. They say Romney supports a two-step process in which states get authority over abortion after Roe v. Wade is overturned, followed eventually by a constitutional amendment that bans most abortions. So there you have it. Romney's for Big Government, after all. That States' Rights talk is all a smokescreen. He's dead set on a national dictate that makes it illegal for teenage girls who get pregnant to do anything other than carry the child to term. What else would Romney like to make illegal for the citizens of the United States? How about birth control? Never mind that abstinence only education has been shown to be a farce. The Baltimore Sun recently ran an article detailing Mitt's distinction between egg fertilization and implantation:
Mr. Romney's code, deciphered, meant, "I, like you, hope to reclassify the most commonly used forms of contraceptives as abortions." In fact, he told the crowd, he already had some practice redefining contraception: "I vetoed a so-called emergency contraception bill that cave young girls abortive drugs without prescription or parental consent."You see, Dr. Romney believes he knows more about physiology than The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, who define life starting at the implantation of a fertilized egg into the mother's womb. After all, if the egg does not implant, the fetus has no possible viability. Whatever your beliefs on abortion, there's simply no denying that Romney has no business spouting off about States' Rights when it comes to this issue.

1. John Ralston who interviewed Romney couldn't have shown his colors better. Very sophomoric journalist. He reminds me of a Geraldo Rivera. It was funny to see his commentary of the interview with the anchors on the news show that he works for. Clasping his hands and having an odd smirk with his goatee. Really a superiority complex to say the least. I'm interested to see him panting in a "gotcha" moment when he interviews Edwards or Biden which is coming soon. I'm sure he'll be very "serious" about their running for the presidency. Good luck to him as well if he thinks that he'll get to interview a President Romney.
Anyway...There's nothing about what Romney says that differs from his pro-life position. Ralston and the rest of the left wing media are trying to split hairs within the pro-life agenda/movement. Romney says nothing about returning to a pro-choice or having a pro-choice stance which would constitute a "flip-flop". Similar to Hillary saying that she "supports" the war then "doesn't support" the war and now says that she "supports" the surge. Giving states and the people of individual states back their rights by overtrning Roe v. Wade so that they can choose pro-life or pro-choice policies is called a federalist approach. He's stated before that he's for this. He's also stated that he's for a National Amendment for life. These are seperate ideas within the context of the pro-life agenda. He has committed also to seek judges that are constructionists to overturn Roe v. Wade.
John Ralston and his ilk need to try and be a little more objective as journalists in the format that they're given and a lot less agenda driven. That's what Rush, Hannity and those guys do and do a lot better job because they don't try and hide who they are.
Attempted hack job will fail.

2. Your argument leaves out one important component, Conservative Gladiator. You say nothing about the fact that as Governor of Massachusetts, Romney was 100% pro-choice. In 1994 he said just that. He did not make the distinction of "states" rights or federal ones. He did not say only Massachusetts should have abortion.
Now, to appease the Pat Robertson wing of the GOP, Romney is all about overturning abortion rights.
Romney could not even answer this man's question if if was OK with him that Nevada had legalized abortion. Romney as usual give his robotic answer about being pro-life.
As David Knowles said, what does "pro-life" mean? If you truly believe abortion is murder, have the guts to say so. And if you beleive it is murder, then shouldn't it be outlawed and women locked up who have one? Well?

3. Honestly, if you read that right it says that he would have something written that would ban MOST abortions, no where does it state he is against it wholly. You can be Pro-Life and yet still be Pro-Choice at the same time, it is hard, yes but when it comes to a nation, it is not up to one man to babysit the world...He is allowing states to make their own decisions, not making the decisions for them.

4. Abortion is bad for a CHRISTIAN NATION like the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA(IN GOD WE TRUST).The truth is Mitt Romney is on the side of LIFE of an INFANT that is already formed inside the mothers womb kicking and moving just like the rest of us when we were babies. Most mothers that perform abortion before are now pouding their chests and wish they knew better then than what they know now.You see it is easy to fool young girls into committing such acts that is consider murder but it is very hard for them to live with the onsequences for the rest of their lives. Some may never have children again and thats the mistake they will forever regret. So there isn't any worth in aborting a child that would sure bring much happiness to a mothers life than sadness. So stop promoting this subject it doesn't help heal the wounds many wonderful mothers have been feeling for so long.May God bless President M.Romney and all the Mothers of this great Nation.

5. Why are you fools try to change Massechussets law already existed before Mitt Romney took Office just recently. And why you fool reporters try to frame the long existing law on Romney. The law it doesn't matter if it is a State or Federal, is still the law.Massechusset decided that Abortion is legal in their State long before Governor Romney took over thats the way is going to be.Have you ever read the Bible where it says,If you go to Rome do as the Romans do,thats exactly what is happening here.Mr Romney is not going to automatically invoke his belief to the existing law of the State even though he sees it is not right. But as the issues went too far in that they're starting to talk about destroying the Fetus thats when the Governor stepped in and put a stop to the ridiculous conclusion.Mitt Romney is right and stand firm on his statement it just that the rporters are on a fault finding mission.

6. YIKES! Abortion is legal in the US. It real irks me when they forget there are girls that are rape victims or are impreganated by a family member. I should think rape and pedophilia would be of more concern. Only proves their position on the rights of women. I suppose these poor girls are supposed to carry this horrid reminder of the tragedies that placed them in the position of being pregnant, yes?
Lots 'O Whacky people out there.
I also take offense to 'Realistic' ( oxymoron in HIS case ) stating this is a Christian Nation. We actually have, Jews, Buddhists, Muslims, Persons of the mystical Dervish faith and many more than I have time to mention. If you were truly realistic you would not be so religiously racist.

10. The biggest issue associated with abortion that everyone seems to be ignoring is Supply and Demand for Humans. We need more people in our society to operate the various industries that the Illegal Mexicans are trying to fulfill in the United States. What does that mean? How many industries need people to work for them? We always see advertisements and signs for "Help Wanted". But how could over 40 million more Americans help? If we had not aborted over 48 million since 1973 then this problem would not exist. And the influx of Mexicans across our unsecured southern border would have been practically non existent. It did not begin till we had the need for their workers and they could earn reasonable wages here. That happened about 20 years after abortion became legal. Think about it! It is an Economic Disaster.
