Former liberal-turned-Conservative-turned-liberal "Progressive" again David Corn's Media Matters is a bit of a joke as they daily try to spin every thing Bill O'Reilly or Rush Limbaugh say into proof that they're racist, xenophobic and whatever else libs believe as gospel. Check out the list of liberal all-stars that write there and tell me if you think they're unbiased in the least. The fact that Corn wrote a screed against Hillary Clinton that sold tons and then when things started getting tough on the Conservative side wrote a screed against the right says all you need to know about his character and opportunism.
Now they've compiled a breath taking report that proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that the media is not liberal but leans conservative. The fact that this has been debunked didn't stop the Media Matters folks from wasting time and energy.
The entire piece can be shown wrong by their listing Cokie Roberts, David Broder (who will forever be considered a "centrist" because he attacked the liberal bloggers) and Tom Friedman as "centrists". The only place Tom Friedman looks like a "centrist" is in the New York Times, a paper that runs him twice a week.
You can read the report and you even download it in PDF because it is The. Most. Important. Report. Ever.
Anyway, the most basic fact that libs fail to understand -- and this goes not just for newspapers but radio and TV as well -- is that people like Conservatives more. This has been proven beyond a shadow of a doubt by the ascension of Fox News, the continued success of Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and Laura Ingraham and the utter failure that was Air America. Liberals are grating and way to serious to ever gain any following. Case in point is Keith Olbermann, his humor is not funny, it's humor that if tried by any of the aforementioned would force their ratings to drop like a rock.
Granted, John Stewart and Stephen Colbert are two exceptions, yet note they do it with humor. The list of failed liberals on TV and radio is astounding: Phil Donahue, Mario Cuomo, Al Franken, Ron Reagan...and the list goes on. Air America was given so much coverage that had they paid for the free ink, they would have resulted to not only stealing from a club for kids but from the homeless as well to support their train wreck. Here's how it works in America: if you have a product someone wants, they will buy it or in this case listen to, watch or read it and advertisers will buy advertising where they are featured. That means the paper, radio show or TV show make money. This doesn't work for liberal programming or editorial writing because no one really cares what they have to say and they say it with an negativity that turns people off. There's no thread of hope or love of America in their writing.
Face it libs, some may agree with you and some may like you but they don't want to listen to you for an hour or three every day. As for the Media Mutters report, it is now clearly evident by their hard work and efforts to spin the report as much as they could that people don't even like to read liberals anymore/

1. Obviously you haven't yet found out that Olberman is now overtaking O'Reilly in ratings. And i can promise you if you polled americans today, they would respond they like what you call "liberals" more that conservatives. the word "liberal" has been spun by republicans to be a bad word, when its not. We're not some type of evil people. We have opposing views from conservatives, but we still respect conservatives. Conservatives do not respect liberals. they think we're trashy losers. Stop making us out to be evil, Scott, we're not!!!

2. The country is slowly coming to realize that the name-calling, trailer-trash like O'Reilly and Limbaugh, speak only for the trailer-trash. No one with an I.Q. higher than a monkey would waste five minutes listening to them. Their ship is sinking faster than George Bush's popularity rating.

3. Patrick,
Olbermann won one night in a demographic that does not pay much attention to current events.
Olbermann is a hack and he appeals to you. 'Nuff said.

4. It is refreshing to see people are admitting that the news is conservative. I find it fascinating that people like Scott say that the media is liberal and then claim that conservative media is everywhere because people want it. Which is it? Is the media liberal and if so doesn't that mean people want it? or Is the media conservative because people want it? Of course, there is no real liberal media that rises to the level of the conservative Fox News. A real liberal media would have crushed Bush for even thinking of invading Iraq and for the ongoing scandals with the Bush administration. Instead, this so called liberal media went after Clinton for a consensual affair. All I have to say it is a good thing Bush is not a democrat or the media would have destroyed him for ignoring Bin Laden.

5. Hey Scott....have you figured out what constitutes "victory" in Iraq yet?

Actually, gentleman you have all made a few good points that illuminate the pathetic tone of US political discourse today.
MoveOn's Petraeus ad was a startling use of the media to pre-empt the Bush administration's message of "We're kicking ass in Iraq" which appeared to be a slam dunk thanks to the about-to-be-anointed new media darling and savior in Iraq.
Stay tuned for tonight's display of brilliant strategy that will only confirm Bush's confidence in Petraeus's management of securing "peace" at 9 pm EST. Yea, more war!
It was funny to see all the sanctimonious Congressional jingoists hold up that ad and denounce the attack on the general just to get themselves "on the Congressional record". Pathetic, really.
But the response was quick and LOUD!
But, gee, wasn't this exactly the SAME TACTIC the Swift Boat vets used against Kerry?
Unfortunately he took what seemed to be months to even respond and then it was too little too late. Perhaps he thought the courtesy and respect he was used to in the Senate's gentleman's club would extend to the heat of the campaign. Ha! They cut him off at the knees and he was perceived as a wimp.
This is only one reason conservatives and their illiterati perceive liberals to be weak and wimpy.
Another is because we mostly eschew war. Gee, let's see, perhaps because we might prefer to exhaust diplomacy first before overthrowing governments and engaging in illegal wars?
Finally, most liberals by their very nature don't have the stomach to engage in traditional Republican party dirty tricks. It's sort of a corporate tradition, isn't it? Gloves off, go for the jugular.
No wonder they are so good at the game of campaign by attack:
Discredit the messenger rather than the message.
Either liberals stiffen their backbones or we are going to see our great hopes in 2008 mangled at the altar of passiveness. Too bad, huh?

Liz, I hail from the People's Republic Of Massachusetts . I have watch Kerry for over thirty years along with the rest of the Mass Liberal Democratic party ( the one in power in the Baystate, going back 40-50 years) They are the ones who have elevated politics to a "blood sport".

9. Johnz (8):
Then what accounts for Kerry's silence in the face of the Swift Boat vet attacks?
What little respect for him I had was gone after his wimpy, "I shall not respond to personal attacks."
Apparently his way of playing a blood sport is to ignore the blood.

Ewwwwwwwwwwwww, YOU gave us Romney!
BTW, how is his mandatory health care program working in your state?
Now, of course Mr. Flip Flop disavows the importance of health care as basic right like education...

11. Liz,
I lost respect for him long ago.
At first I watched him testify before congress ( 70's)
and I agreed with some of the things he said. I had
done my time "in country" so I figured that he had
earned the right to say what he said. However, watching him over the years clawing his way up the Mass political food chain I saw a different individual show himself. In one instance, if I had
been that attractive blond spokeswoman that he practically bowled over to get at the press microphones ( A move that would have put Bruin's Phil Esposito to shame), I would have decked him.
All so that he could show the press, how important he was.

Now, I take offense at the 'trailer-trash' comment. I live in a trailer, I am not a Conservative, I do not support the Iraq War (neither do my parents), and I am an EXTREME libertarian.
Now, if you change that statement to say "Run-down trailer-trash" and add "In the South, where racism still thrives" to that statement..... Then it becomes very true and accurate.

13. I would hate to engage in a blanket condemnation of conservatives because believe it or not, there are some very thoughtful and intellegent conservatives out there. Unfortunately, a lot of what passes for conservative thought is not that at all. Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh and Bill O'Reilly are not conservatives. They are right wing reactionaries and bigots and thus their appeal. They drudge the bottom of the lake to appeal to the fears, anxieties, racism, sexism and homophobia in the populace at large. They have refined the Nazi technique of blaming the ills of society on despised minorities and then shouting down all opposition. That it all makes great entertainment for the alienated masses is the whole point - a diversionary tactic to keep bubba from noticing the widening gap between the rich and the rest of us who find it more and more difficult to make ends meet.

Randy (13):
Excellent assessment.
I would add that Rush O'Reilly Hannity and others are media showmen. They don't hold a set of conservative values so much as churn the biases and exploit the prejudices and fears of the illiterati of this country who go off and blog repeating this crap in blogs as if they had a clue. Their weapon of choice is invective...speaking of blood sports...
An interesting note:
I wonder how many conservatives, Republicans, conservative Christians, other Bush supporters,
know that Karl Rove, you know, the voice in Bush's ear (if not to say his mouth) is a self-proclaimed atheist.
Interesting person to rely upon to devise the Bush administration's faith-based initiatives, isn't it? A blatantly political tactic to reach Christian conservatives, but, gee, a tad hypocritical?
And speaking of Rovian hypocrisy...
Karl Rove's father was gay. But they were close until the day he died. Rove kept a photograph of his father on his White House desk and has remarked to reporters that his father "lived life exactly the way he wanted to live it."
Rove and his father and Cheney and his daughter? Examples of ideology over the acceptance of humans in all their variety. And all just to get elected.
Winning IS everything, see what I meant above?
