Remember George W. Bush's Axis of Evil speech? Remember how the libs all wrung their hands because the Texas Redneck Idiot had the audacity to call out our enemies a la Ronald Reagan and his Evil Empire speech.
Well guess what? President Bush was exactly right when he lumped Iraq, Iran and North Korea in the same sentence...he only left out Syria:
WASHINGTON, Sept. 17 - The Sept. 6 attack by Israeli warplanes inside Syria struck what Israeli intelligence believes was a nuclear-related facility that North Korea was helping to equip, according to current and former American and Israeli officials.
Details about the Israeli assessment emerged as China abruptly canceled planned diplomatic talks in Beijing that were to set a schedule to disband nuclear facilities in North Korea. The Bush administration has declined to comment on the Israeli raid, but American officials were expected to confront the North Koreans about their suspected nuclear support for Syria during those talks.
But wait, isn't this the same Syria that Rep. Dennis Kucinich just visited and disrespected the president? Is that country led by Boy Assad, the second hand despot that Speaker Nancy Pelosi acted like she could do business with? The same Pelosi that said of Assad "We were very pleased with the assurances we received from the president that he was ready to resume the peace process. He's ready to engage in negotiations for peace with Israel..." The Israelis are in a desperate position should Assad get nukes and they know it so they took action, apparently with U.S. knowledge.
Hmmm, I guess he intended to use those nukes for peaceful means. But wait! It gets better for the Speaker as her man Assad has other tricks up his sleeve:
Proof of cooperation between Iran and Syria in the proliferation and development of weapons of mass destruction was brought to light Monday in Jane's Defence Weekly, which reported that dozens of Iranian engineers and 15 Syrian officers were killed in a July 23 accident in Syria.
According to the report, cited by Channel 10, the joint Syrian-Iranian team was attempting to mount a chemical warhead on a Scud missile when the explosion occurred, spreading lethal chemical agents, including sarin nerve gas.
Now just where would Assad have gotten VX and sarin gas from? It couldn't have come from Saddam Hussein before we invaded because Speaker Pelosi's party now says he never had any, even though every leading Democrat said he did in 1998. That whole charade of presenting our case to the UN allowed Saddam to transport every bit of WMD out of the country and into Syria and Iran and will be used against us.
This is where the Democratic party is in 2007, they prostrate themselves in front of a tyrant who has caused much chaos in neighboring Lebanon and now has been implicated in arming a missile with banned poison gas and procuring nuke technology from NoKo. Thanks for setting him straight Speaker Pelosi and Rep. Kucinich, I guess he didn't buy that whole Department of Peace jive you've been known to mutter.

1. This is typical lib BS. Hiding their collective heads in the sand as if everything is OK and believing that these thugs are peaceful. God Bless GWB. He had the guts to do something unlike the libs who always blame others for their failures and inaction then beg for votes claiming they will protect us.

2. Scott, I do recall one speech where he named four nations as the "Axis of Evil": Iraq, Iran, Syria,No. Korea. (Was trying to pull it up but its not in the file looked in.) You are right to say he (Bush) was right back then and its still a reality. Also believe he (Saddam) got most of the WMD's out. But, it may well be some are still there. (Someday a freak sand storm will uncover them.) The important point to this piece of yours is clear. There is no way talk will ever resolve the destructive motives and goals of these countries and they are working together(An Axis). Anyone thinking they have gained ground by talking to them is not very attune to the realities of these nations plans and/or goals. The one point that did refresh my mind in the speech, your link took me, to was this: Bush stated then (Jan.'02), that this would not be finished during his time in office but needed to be started now. So those saying he has just decided to pass it off to the next Admin. (after the Generals recent report) needs to realise they were told in the beginning this was going to take a long time. Sooner or later Iran is going to have to be dealt with. And Syria/No.Korea have always been in the action somehow.

3. You whole philosophy that we can never ever talk to our enemies is a proven failed one. While we do have to do it safely, we must be willing to talk. good for Pelosi and Kucinich. It is people like they who keep the U.S. from sinking in the eyes of every other country.

4. Talking is a great thing to do-- when you have the upper hand. We found out in the World Wars that we could no longer hope bad things wouldn't happen to us. But I guess the Korean and Vietnam debacles helped us think otherwise. Let's not learn that lesson again. Actually, I thought we had, on 9/11...

To Scott -
Axis - n. a political ALLIANCE. Iran and Iraq were anything but allies before the "grand strategy" to invade Iraq took place. Now the two fellow Shia run Islamic Republics are closer than ever. Where do you think Maliki took up refuge during Saddams regime ? Tibet ? But of course now the Iraqi government will clamp down and control their border with Iran - you know - like we're doing with ours with Mexico. That about sum it all up ?
Are you really as uninformed as you appear ?
What is it with the problem you have have understanding reality ?
Next we'll be hearing more about what good friends the likes of Saudi Arabia and Libya are to us. Sure -two real fine sterling examples of freedom and democracy there. Maybe you can tell everyone how Libyas brutal dictator and career terrorist Muammar Gaddafi has "changed" and is now worthy of our friendship and financial support. Talk about naive. With friends like these .....

I don't know what's worse - being fooled by another government, or being fooled by your own government.
Actually, we do know what is worse.

"Now just where would Assad have gotten VX and sarin gas from?" (Scott)
Maybe, just maybe, Syria possesses the technical knowhow to develope the stuff. Maybe.
"According to the Jerusalem Post, Syria began developing chemical weapons in 1973, just before the Yom Kipper War. Globalsecurity.org cites the country as having one of the most advanced chemical weapons programs in the Middle East."
