Hey, that's good enough for me.
I've been fervent in my posts about the uneasiness I feel when GOP candidates act as if they have to cozy up to religious folk. President Bush did it with Jerry Falwell and John McCain more recently is doing it with Southern Baptists. Republican candidates place an undeserved prestige on gaining the backing of people such as James Dobson and it doesn't gain them the support they would hope for. In fact, it may turn off conservative Democrats and cost them more votes then it gains.
Think about it, who will Dobson support as if it really matters? He won't support Giuliani so that leaves who, Sam Brownback or Mike Huckabee? He definitely won't support Mitt Romney. Essentially, Dobson has been neutralized and that means his power has dissipated. That can only be good for the party as we've seen those who preach have not always been the most godly of people anyway. I put Dobson on a par with other partisan groups who should have their power usurped such as MoveOn and NOW.
As a Neocon, I am a moderate on most social issues, the church is not supposed to play as large a part as the GOP has placed on it in recent years. For those who have made Neocon a curse, do a little research and see that most Neocons were liberals who changed affiliation because they think that democracy is the cornerstone to changing the world and despots and dictators are evil and should be exiled or forced out by whatever means necessary. That's a much-abridged description but take some time to look up what we think.
Dobson and his ideological brethren are fading and will continue to do so. The nation needs a leader who is not praised by those of Dobson's ilk and who will lead based on good moral tenets--whether religion-inspired or not. Let Dobson support Sam Brownback and I'll support Rudy Giuliani or Fred Thompson.

17. "Neocon" IS a curse word because you idiot neocons have decided that you have a RIGHT to rule, not only America, but the world as a whole. And you're willing to use the Constitution and Bill of Rights as toilet paper so long as you get to impose your right wing idiocy on everyone, wage war everywhere, bankrupt the country, and gather as much wealth as you can regardless of who suffers as a result. You have no heart, no compassion, and very litte brain. that the "Religious Right" supports something so completely against the teachings of Jesus Christ indicates THEIR apostasy, lack of intelligence, and bigotry. The Religious right is neither Christian nor right (as in "correct" for those who can't figure that out...). "Neocon" is another word for fascist authoritarian. Neocons should be opposed by any American who truly loves freedom and any Christian who cares to listen to Christ.

19. If you want a state where those influenced by the Jewish or Christian religious ideals have NO say, there's some nations (China comes to mind) where the religious persons influenced by historic Judaism or historic Christianity are marginalized off the page. And they have GROSS and EXTREME violations of human rights on several levels. (as documented by a variety of groups)
I also wish to note...what scares me is when people change the rules and ethics based on whatever thought fashions are marketed...in the idea marketplace today.
And one of them (Hilary CLinton) wants to modify health care. But what would healthcare be when managed by persons who are dissing the value of human lives?
The weak (preborn, aged, disabled) would be moved towards marginalization and maybe someday euthanized off the healthcare system.

You're deluding yourself. A liberal would never think that way. NeoCons are an aberration to the Republican party and true conservatives. They are the fascists of the 21st Century. If you don't believe me, take a good hard look at the values the USA has abandoned. The current NeoCon administration doesn't believe in democracy, liberty or freedom. It's just a sellout.

22. What about the Democratic candidates licking the boots of the Reverand Jess Jackson and others and giving political speeches in Baptist churches? Just for votes I suppose. What a bunch of fools. Frankly I sick of these politicians from both parties giving away our country piecemeal. NAFTA superhighway, exporting jobs, trade inbalance and illegal immigration. Soon the only jobs that will be left will be in politics.

23. Scott's definition of neocon makes me a bit ill. While I'll agree that democracy is the best form it is not for everyone at the moment the US decides to impose it. And trying to force it on a country like we did on Iraq (when WMDs were bogus) just leads to chaos and death.
Wimps and cowards turn to war bc they are
scared and insecure.

24. It must gall Democratic candidates to know there are decent, hard working Americans that believe in something other then "self".

25. Jerry Falwell, James Dobson, Pat Robertson and Jentzen Franklin are all zealots when it comes to politics. When preachers become radical in their thinking, thry're as dangerous as loaded gun in the hands of a street gang. The influences of radical extremists and uninformed voters can result in a catastrophe. The perfect ticket would be Thompson and Tancredo, T n T.

26. There never was a successful story or any good that came out of countries that rule by dictators where Religion hardly or never exist.Mass murders and killings of fellow humans occupy minds that don't let Gods words flourish in their hearts, minds and soul.Immorality and RAPE of innocents women and childrens all over those countries with no voices of churches and religious people. Is that the kind of country I hear and read from some of the comments would wish we have without Religious Leaders influence? I don't think so and I'm pretty sure most American would rather see Religious play a major role in helping our nations leaders to stay on the right and safe course than mass murders and rapes and all kinds of chaos period and end of story.
