In January, we were told that the new Democrat-led Congress was going to save the country, change the world and make every bald guy grow hair. Instead, we have a Congress that continually gets beat by a lame-duck president and hasn't passed even one requisite spending bill:
With none of the 12 fiscal 2008 appropriations bills enacted, both the House and Senate will take up continuing resolutions to extend federal government funding at current levels.
But wait, they're still working on really important legislation. Way more important than passing bills that will keep our country moving:
Two other measures are expected to see House floor action next week. One bill (HR 2693) would protect workers against an artificial-butter flavoring chemical called diacetyl, a chemical that is used in the production of microwave popcorn.
Yeah, that Nancy Pelosi has taken that mandate handed to her and really run with it, hasn't she. I sense that the country is so much better because of Democratic leadership. Or not.
Speaker Pelosi and her compadre Steny Hoyer have spent so much time on stupid investigations and meaningless resolutions condemning everything and everyone connected to the war in Iraq that they've failed to do what they were actually put in office to do. It may just be the shortest leadership run in congressional history if this keeps up.

1. Only a fool would expect great change after the Democrats regained control of Congress. Why would someone expect change when more often than not the Democrats have agreed with Bush and the Republicans? Even when they did not agree with Bush they rarely offered any alternative plans becasue they did not have any. In order to win the last mid term election, they promised change but never provided any details as to what that change meant. The only change is which contributors have a greater say. The Democrats do a great job at bitching about the problems but they are not good at offering solutions. They can bash the rights ideas all day long but good luck getting them to offer any ideas of their own. Doing so would mean taking a stand.
Democrats are great at being the minority party but weak at being in the majority. This is the reason they seem so clueless now that they are in charge.

2. The do nothing congress has done a lot. People have seen how the Rep's try to change the subject about the bench marks that was set by the Iraq gov't that hasn't been meet. And the People has seen how the Rep's have attacked Freedom of the Press and Free speech. People see how the Rep's are letting our troops down, how Rep's are trying to attack Iran base on the same lies that got us into Iraq.
So you can call them the do nothing congress but in real time people do see what is going on. They're not falling for the snow job the Rep's are trying to do on the Ameican people again.
So you Rep's can set their and think you are fooling the American people again, but you are not.

3. The popcorn lung bill is actually exactly what the Democrats were talking about -- making this administration take responsiblity for enforcing the laws of the land.
Popcorn lung is caused by an artificial butter flavoring called diacetyl that shreds workers' lungs. Hundreds have been affected and some have died. Young workers are facing double lung transplants and early deaths.
This is exactly the type of hazard that the Occupational Safety and Health Administration is supposed to address through regulations. But despite the hazards that American workers continue to face, OSHA has done virtually nothing over the past 7 years.
Thank God (and the voters) that we at last have a Congress that takes the welfare of the American peopple -- and the law -- seriously
