SAN MARCOS, Calif. (Sept. 27) - A 10-year-old boy will get a chance to play an extra in Will Ferrell's new movie after his father bought the role in a cancer-charity auction for more than $47,000.

The money will go to the Cancer for College foundation run by a fraternity brother of Ferrell's at the University of Southern California. The $47,100 high bidder, a man from Dallas, asked to remain anonymous. The opening bid was $5,000.

Will Ferrell's auction raised money for the charity of his old fraternity brother Craig Pollard, who's a two-time survivor of Hodgkin's disease.

"Winning this auction means a lot to me on a very personal basis," the winner said in a statement released by the foundation. "I lost my mother to ovarian cancer a few years ago, so I feel fortunate that my 10-year-old and I are able to participate in an event involving Cancer for College and Will Ferrell."

Ferrell came up with the idea to auction off a non-speaking part as an extra in his new movie, "Step Brothers."

"We are overwhelmed with the response and generosity to the auction," Ferrell said. "This money will help so many young people with their dreams of attending college."

The winner is scheduled to meet Ferrell on Friday at the 14th annual Cancer for College golf tournament dinner in Temecula, then join the actor on the movie set next month.

Ferrell's friend Craig Pollard, a two-time survivor of Hodgkin's disease, started Cancer for College to provide scholarships to current and former cancer patients. The charity has awarded $200,000 to 50 cancer survivors since 1993.

to all of you who sit there and say the celebrity should give their money away, i agree to an extent but they are no different than anybody else, if they gave money to every charity that came knocking they would be dead broke, it was an honorable thing he did and raised a lot of money for a good cause, most of those celebrities give more money than you think to charity, yet that kind of stuff doesnt make the news because it doesnt involve drugs, sex or scandal.

Like with heart problems and heart disease there are so many herbal alternatives available that are supressed due to profits.

I personally know of herbal combinations and amino acids that stop the ravages of diabetes, and another that actually cleans your arteries....you can see it working...This stuff has been around for thousands of years but it cheap.

Too much MONEY at stake to allow a cure, or even relief for the health problems that make hospitals and doctor RICH. 44% of all heart bypasses are unnecessary according to findings. You can spend $65,000 on a bypass, or under $20 on a bottle of pills that remove plaque from artery walls...

50% of the time spent in investigation by the AMA is tracking down doctors using "alternative treatments". More licenses are lost from helping patients, than killing them.

Hey SKKTR, put your pants back on. Your tighty whiteys are blinding us and you might be able to go out and get a life instead of setting there in your own resentment bashing people for doing something good and raising awareness for their friend's causes. Loser.

my hubby of almost 34 yrs just passed away in jan 2007 of melanoma it was caused by a mole he had on his shoulder. problem was we had no insurance so he waited to long and to late to get it checked and when he did there was nothing they could do for him. the kemo he went through is something new its called interfuron and we were very fortunate even though it did nothing to help him at all we found out after that the pharmacutical company who discovered it gave it to us free of charge because it cost 3,000.00 a pop. besides my hubby was more or less a guinia pig cause its new and they were trying it experimanting on him. i believe in my heart theyve had a cure for cancer and have for a long time but to mant greedy ppl would loose billions of dollars in the process if it was brought out i nthe open. so i say this keep your cure and keep making your money and letting ppl who are already suffering suffer more because in the end you are the ones who will pay fo
