HONG KONG (Sept. 30) - "Rush Hour" put Jackie Chan in Hollywood's major leagues, but the Hong Kong star isn't a fan of his successful action comedy franchise.

Chan said when he made the first installment of the "Rush Hour" series in 1998 he only wanted to test the U.S. market and didn't have high hopes.

"When we finished filming, I felt very disappointed because it was a movie I didn't appreciate and I did not like the action scenes involved. I felt the style of action was too Americanized and I didn't understand the American humor," Chan said in a blog entry on his Web site seen Sunday.

The actor said he made the sequel because he was offered an "irresistible" amount of money to do it and made the recently released third installment to satisfy fans of the series.

Chan said "Rush Hour 3" was no different from the first two installments for him.

"Nothing particularly exciting stood out that made this movie special for me ... I spent four months making this film and I still don't fully understand the humor," he said, adding the comedic scenes may be lost on Asian audiences.

Chan's comments came even though the "Rush Hour" series, which revolves around the racial humor stemming from the pairing of a Chinese (Chan) and a black (Chris Tucker) police officer, helped the action star cross over to mainstream American audiences.

"Rush Hour" was Chan's first movie to break $100 million at the U.S. box office, earning $141 million, according to the box office tracking Web site, Box Office Mojo. "Rush Hour 2" made $226 million and "Rush Hour 3" has earned $137 million so far.

Chan has been known to be blase about his Hollywood work. He said in a 2005 interview with The Associated Press that he uses the high salary he earns in the U.S. to fund Chinese-language projects that truly interest him.

He also showed little enthusiasm for his latest Hollywood project, "The Forbidden Kingdom," which marks his first on-screen collaboration with fellow action star Jet Li.

I love all Jackie Chan movies I been watching since he first made his movies in his own country I think he is funny and if doesn't like the movie he make it really should be a problem as along as he gives us 100% satisfactory as he's been doing. I am sure there is a lot of actors who does the movie for money, it is a job some jobs we like to do some jobs we don't, but we all do what we have too. Keep the good work Jackie and hope your career as well of all good actor who work hard to satisfy your fans.

I have to say, comedy in Asian culture and in the US are mayorly different. Im sure some things in Asia they find funny that we dont. But all in all, Jackie still makes us laugh and is smart in his ventures. The one movie that I can recall that was to me his break out movie in the US was "The Big Brawl." It was funny and entertaining. And when you can see him doing his own stunts and knowing that this man does it because he enjoys it proves he is an actor that willing to do it for the fans. YOU GO JACKIE!!!

I like Jackie Chan and the Rush Hour movies are very funny but if he does not like them nor understands the humor nor thinks his Asian audience will understand the humor then why the heck make the movies? Obviously the money is what is keeping him doing this but if you are going to sell out to money then keep your comments to yourself or make Asain movies and leave the American humor to Americans.

Movies are so people can sit down and relieve themselves of the day to day grind. In most it

belladonnamoon1 06:57:14 AM Oct 01 2007

So Jackie Chan "******" himself out to Hollywood for the almighty dollar every so often... He's got a product to sell, and he's selling it up and down the boulevard. This is America, and in America, we fought and died for the right for our fellow Americans to have the freedom to do just that.
To renig on that now is Backpeddling.

Americans pay homage to actors and people with money, or people with fame.

Think about this you make millions people pay you to speak. Your a fireman, police officer or in the military putting your life on the line day in and out and nobody cares.

Shame on you America! I love my country but with thoughts like this it makes me cringe!

GOD BLESS AMERICA -
