A source close to actress Rose McGowan tells PEOPLE that she and film director Robert Rodriguez are engaged.

The couple met when McGowan was cast in 'Planet Terror,' Rodriguez's contribution to the double feature film, 'Grindhouse.'

For a while, the couple's status was one of Hollywood's worst-kept secrets. In the weeks prior to the release of 'Grindhouse,' rumors of the Rodriguez-McGowan tryst were reported, but neither made any public acknowledgement confirming or denying it. Rodriguez's ex-wife, Elizabeth Avellan, served as a producer of 'Planet Terror.' Avellan and Rodriguez have five children together.

Avellan and Rodriguez had been married for 16 years and their relationship fizzled while 'Planet Terror' was in production. "This is an extremely painful time for me and my family, and Elizabeth and I very much appreciate your understanding and patience.," Rodriguez had told the crew at the time of the split. The pair insisted that it was an amicable split at that it wouldn't stop their work together with the production company Troublemaker Studios.

McGowan and Rodriguez publicly stepped out as a couple at the Cannes Film Festival, putting to rest months of speculation that their hot and heavy romance on the set had broken up his marriage.

McGowan, who was once engaged to Marilyn Manson, has recently been spotted wearing a diamond ring.

I have to agree with stormrebel, I was thinking how rude it was to use this space to advertise , well, anything. This isn't free ad space- it's for comments on the pointless news that AOL considers "headlines".. So pay for google ads, flyers or banners and leave this area to the "intelligent" "insightful" "educated" people and their comments...LOL, but really no ads..It's rude...Pikabo

Manson sans makeup is a creepy sight, he is however extremely intelligent-he reminds me of Alice Cooper in the sense that it's all show on stage and nothing more. In short, he is a freak only to fullfill the concept of people who wish to worship a freak. I first saw McGowan in "Doom Generation" and I do enjoy her work, I enjoy Rodriguez's work as well. Something else must have been going on in the marriage to have Rodriguez and his wife divorce, perhaps McGowan was a catalyst, but who knows. I feel for the children, as they will have to see all this BS about their parents and potential stepmother splashed across the tabloids. Sigh............
