LOS ANGELES (Feb. 20) - "Monk" will be back on the case for a seventh season.

USA Network has given a 16-episode order to the light crime drama, and is targeting a July premiere for the first half of the show, and January for the second half.

Tony Shalhoub stars as Adrian Monk, a brilliant detective who suffers from obsessive-compulsive disorder. The role has earned him three Emmys. Also returning are Traylor Howard as his assistant, and Ted Levine and Jason Gray-Stanford as Monk's minders at the San Francisco Police Dept.

USA said "Monk" was up both 22% in the adults 18-49 demo and 15% in adults 25-54 for what the cable channel calls the current "winter season" vs. the same period a year ago.

The tentative plan is once again to pair "Monk" with "Psych," which will return for a third season in the summer.

Meanwhile, "Monk" aired the first part of its sixth-season finale Friday, drawing 5.6 million total viewers, according to Nielsen Media Research. That's on par with the 5.7 million averaged by the second-half season premiere last month.

Leading out of "Monk," the second-season finale of "Psych" averaged 4.7 million viewers, which also was on par with its "winter-season premiere" in January. "Psych" stars James Roday as a gifted police consultant who allows people to believe that he has psychic abilities.

Yeah for Tony Shalhoub! Monk is my favorite show.
He's incredible playing the ocd dectective!
The entire cast is great: I love Stottlemeyer's way of handling Monk, Disher is geting more lines and Natalie is to me, more of the calming type for him, than Sharona.
Anyway you look at it, Monk rules!

Well, if Monk WAS president, you know he'd clean up the environment with his OCD!!! =)

I am happily amazed to read all the positive comments about Monk. Tony Shaloub is outstanding in this part and the show, overall is GREAT!!! I liked Sharonna but Natalie has gotten better with time. She seems more comfortable in the part. Can you tell I LOVE this show??? Three cheers for Monk and Tony!!!

I love monk and I love tony for playing him with such understated brillance, this is truley one of the best shows on television, If the show ever ends I hope they end it with him either falling in love again or Trudi coming back to him, maybe faking her death to keep him from harm, because of an article she was working on or something. If Monk ever ends it better be a happy ending for adrian. or else monkites everywhere will haunt you.

Sharona was wayyy better than Natalie, I don't like Natalie really... even after all these seasons I still can't get used to her, Adrian Monk is great though.

honeymagnet00 11:13:07 PM Feb 21 2008

I heard they are gonna bring back Sharona next season and Monk has to decide between her n Natalie to be his nurse or something along those lines, I hope that's true.
