On Tuesday's show, aka Neil Diamond Night, White sang two songs by Diamond: "I'm a Believer" and "I Am ... I Said."

Simon Cowell called White's first performance "a nightmare," then heaped praise on her after her second act.

"This is the Brooke we like. Sitting behind the piano, singing a very good song," the snarky judge said. "It wasn't incredible, but it was a million times better than the first song. Well done."

White, who claimed never to have seen an R-rated movie, wiped away tears before her final performance. The former nanny told fans: "I just wanna say `thank you."'

The remaining "Idol" candidates - David Archuleta, David Cook, Jason Castro and Syesha Mercado (Wednesday night's other low vote-getter) - surrounded White on stage.

Cook, offering moral support, patted her on the back.

Earlier in the live telecast, Ryan Seacrest defended Paula Abdul against Internet chatter about her flub the night before: "Just for the record: The rumors - they're not true. She's part of our family, and we love her."

The host didn't explain what those "rumors" were, but said he'd been reading gossip online about Abdul. The "Idol" judge goofed on Tuesday night's performance show when she gave Castro feedback for two songs - even though he'd only sung one.

"American Idol" had switched up the format by making judges take notes and hold their appraisals until every contestant had performed. Abdul said later that she was thrown for a loop when producers apprised the judges of the change at the last minute.

Wednesday's show also featured performances by guest mentor Diamond and Natasha Bedingfield.

Oh, also people seem to put little David A., down due to his parents and his heritage, lets remember that David Cook is Canadian.

I am very curious about that Poll between the 2 David's. I feel that the %'s of both should be much closer. I also feel that this will be Jason's time to go. Again, people this is simply my thoughts, because we ALL KNOW that American Idol is not fixed.

I loved Brooke and found her to be absolutely, though I can't say I'm disappointed because I know she'll come out with a record deal somewhere, meanwhile I'll be waiting her for CD.

I admire David A. I love his voice, I hate how some immature young "adults" feel the need to rant on his fans because of his looks. How shallow? Seriously, you need to grow up and realize that it IS about a popularity contest, but believe me, he didn't make it to the top 4 for his looks, his voice had a BIG part of it too. Grow up :) Thanks..

LOL..AnyBody Happen to Notice When Natasha Stated She Wanted to Give "David" a Hug that Cooke AUTOMATICALLY ASSUMED **LOL** She Was REferring To HIM??? Alil Much Needed Lesson in HUMILITY There.. But I Digress..
I Love Cook's Talent..but His Concietedness gets on my Nerves. He's Been Showing Improvement in the "humbled-down" department though, as of late So I Must give him Props.

Cook is Obviously My Pick..he's the one that's gonna be The Last One Standing..
But You Know Something... JASON is Gonna Be Standin RIGHT Next To Him when Cook Is Named American Idol.
It's Better for Jason Anyway..His Soul is Too Big and Genuine To Be Owned By
VAmpires Like FOX, Or ANYONE They Are Affiliated With. He Needs To Be The TRUE MAN HE'S BEEN ALL ALONG...I Don't EVER want to see Him sell out..Not For The Likes of THEM..Not For ANYBODY.

Its a shame that the people kicked off Brook White ;I think before Brook White was kick off.... syesha, and Jason....should been thrown off way long time ago..... I really think that the American Idol is fixed....poor Brook knew that it was her being thrown off.. .Idont care to ever watch the american idol again the godd singers are thrown off and the ones that should been thrown off is kept ......I just hope that David Cook is the american Idol unless how the voters vote .... they seem to vote for the bad ones like jason and Syesha...
