(July 14) -- When Rhonda and Jason Holt started their family in the Winchester, Tenn., home they bought in 2004, they couldn't understand why they and their children were hit by mysterious illnesses.
Rhonda started getting migraines. Her husband had problems with his kidneys. And the three children they had, now ages 4, 2 and 1, had respiratory problems that required drugs and hospital visits, reported The New York Times.

Rhonda Holt and her son Ethan sit with Anna, 2, as she gets breathing treatment. She suffered a relapse from an illness that began in their home.

Finally, in February, they found out that their house had previously been used as a drug lab, and was contaminated with methamphetamines, which had permeated the drywall, carpets, insulation and air ducts, leading to the family's health problems. And cleaning up the toxins would cost at least $30,000.
"We had no idea that we were starting a family in a meth house," Rhonda Holt told the Times. "We bought a house that eventually was going to sentence our family to death."
The paper reports that seizures of meth labs are on the rise across the country, and that federal data suggests there are thousands of contaminated residences in the U.S. The massive cleanup costs can destroy a family's finances.
About 20 states have laws requiring cleanup from meth contamination, but there are no national standards.
The Holts are now living with family nearby as they try to save money to have the decontamination work done on their home. Their health problems have largely subsided since they moved out, the Times said, but "We don't know what it's going to be in the future," said Rhonda Holt.

I know that here in NW Florida several houses used to make Meth. have been totally destroyed rather than allow anyone to live in them, and get sick. That should be the norm everywhere.

unfortunately many of these homes have been seized in drug raids and then are resold for a cheaper price and people think they are getting a good deal. they should not be able to sell these homes to others without decontaminating them. I hope they will all be well.

I am with you 100% Sirencry76. You took the thoughts right out of my head. You said what I was thinking. Stupid mindless sleezeballs have a way a victimizing people repeatedly more ways than they intended initially with no remorse and there are very little laws to protect the victims from or against the outcome of thier crimes. However, the criminals rights are tightly protected. I agree with some of the other countries in thier punishment tactics. The funny thing is, these countries I am about to refer to have the lowest crime rates because they don't play. You get caught and charged with a crime, you suffer the punishment by the same crime. You get caught stealing -- you lose some fingers. You get caught and charged with rape -- well you get the idea. I learned about these countries in the late 80's when I was in high school. I don't know if they still hold to those laws, but they should. its funny how petifiles can control themselves in countries like that. And how poor...

Drag the Prior "Sleeze" Owners Out of Jail and MAKE THEM decontaminate Or Tear Down the property With Their Own Hands ,seeing that THEY Ruined It, then Throw Their Wastes of Flesh Back in Jail After They Finish, whilst Simultaneously Suing The Realtor who failed to disclose The Truth about the property.Quite Frankly I Think All Meth Manufacturers And Their Clients should be Shot.Bunch of Selfish Dumbarses. And Literally ROTTEN To The Core. I'm Literally Sick of Good People Getting Hurt by Pieces of Shit..and They are Protected as if They are a Precious Resource..As Though There's a Shortage of Arsehole Idiots in the World. BDS baby !!!

RNRAD: You hit it right on the head, how hard would it be for Obama and his big pockets to help these people out. Thats the problem with all Government bailouts, they lose track of the individual and many many corrupt system abusres get the help, because that is whatthey spend their time doing. I have had parents of children who could not tell you the capital city of Arkansas, but they could read you line and verse about every entitlemet and benefit the Government owed them. This why people do not like big government involvement. all assistance should be on a case by case basis with interviews and investigation to support the applicants need, EVEN IF THAT MEANS LESS PEOPLE ARE HELPED
