Lyme Disease is becoming epidemic, and few doctors have been educated to recognize the symptoms.Lyme Disease can mimic signs of Alzheimer's Disease, and a variety of psychiatric illnesses. I know because as I am progressing in my treatment for Lyme and other tick-borne diseases, I no longer suffer from mood swings, anxiety, and depression. It is quite rare for a diagnosis of AD at this age. Studies have shown that some patients improve after started on appropriate antibiotics. I would encourage this wife, and anyone who cares for someone diagnosed with AD and/or a psychiatric illness that is not responding to medication - to seek a LLMD - Lyme Literate Medical Doctor - for evaluation and testing. Go to LymeNet,org - Flash Discussion - Find a Doctor - and ask for references in your area.Google Lyme Alzheimers to see the connection. For info regarding mental illness and Lyme, the International Lyme and Associated Diseases Society has a brochure - http://www.il...

I have cared for people with this disease for over 10 years. It is heartbreaking and very stressful. The family half of the time fade away and then the only family the people have are the caregivers. This is a horrible disease! Their mind goes quickly but their health not the same. People live a very long time with this disease, far past the memory they once had. They are extremely anxious and almost ALWAYS are put on anti-pshyc drugs that put them in a zombie like state. Not to mention after prolonged use they end up with kidney and liver damage from all the drugs. My best advice to any family suffering from this disease is to KEEP YOUR LOVED ONE HOME at all costs, Hire help! Its not easy but if you love your loved one its the right thing to do. TRUST ME!

Mills you are showing your ignorance. Those of us who believe that abortion is murder believe that embryonic stem cell research is wrong. Stems cells that come from nasal passages and other locations are fine. Try to keep in mind that embryonic stem cell research has thus far yielded nearly zip. While I am sure you are desperate to find a cure for Alzheimers try to keep in mind that we do not have to do it at the expense of the yet unborn.

I have a friend who is 48, her Dad died of Alzheimer's when he was in his 40's. She and all her brothers and sister have it. Her Dad was a college professor, no one could figure out what was going, why he stopped bathing and was acting so odd. This was back in the early 80's. At least now we know a little more. It's a horrid disease that effects so many families. My heart goes out them.
