Twin Sisters Give Birth to Triplets

NRE FLORENCE, Mo. (July 22) - For five of the six years Darla and Mark Pritchard were married, they were trying to start a family.
Two attempts at in-vitro fertilization had failed, and they were about to make a third try when Darla's twin sister, Dana Johnson, offered to be a surrogate, to up the odds of success. Darlas and Mark took her up on the offer.
It turned out both women, 39, got pregnant when eggs fertilized by Mark were implanted.
On Feb. 27, Darla gave birth to twins, Mallory and Wesley and, six weeks later, Dana had a girl, Mattie.
They're considered triplets and biological siblings.
All three will be raised by Darla and Mark.
Darla and Dana told all about it on The Early Show Tuesday.
"My family had just felt so helpless, for so long," Darla said, "watching me depressed (because of my inability to conceive) and all that, and Dana was the only one who felt like she could help, and she offered to carry a baby for us."
"They're from the same batch of eggs, same batch of sperm, and so they are considered triplets -- they just have different birthdays," Darla continued.
"I'll have to adopt Mattie. Legally, in Missouri, Dana's the mother."

Maybe the husband got the sister pregnant the "old fashioned way"...that's why they were born a few days apart.

I will make a bet that she will get pregnant within a year the old fashion way.....Always happens. Once the body relaxes and she isn't "TRYING" to get pregnant then she will be.....

That is cool. Being a surrogate for a loved one is a true act of selflessness. Imagine their surprise when they found out both sisters were pregnant! I am glad the babies are healthy and obviously born into a loving immediate and extended family.

I would love to be able to have my own children as well as adopt. I believe love can be given to another child just as easily as your biological children. I believe that whether you want to adopt or not is a personal choice like those who want to abort (I don't agree with it, but I'm aware it will happen regardless) It's the same with having your own children. I'm glad the Pritchards have a wonderful sister in Dana, so selfless in her volunteering to carry their daughter. Congratulations to the happy couple for their three blessings.

Well, the story says this: " "They're from the same batch of eggs, same batch of sperm, and so they are considered triplets -- they just have different birthdays," Darla continued." So, since they are all 3 from the same batch of eggs, I would think all the eggs are from one twin, Darla. Her twin sister probably just CARRIED the one baby from DARLA's egg, if I am understanding it correctly. It's sad that people have to make negative statements. All people are entitled to their own feelings, and we need to just respect them...not judge. OF COURSE, Darla will care the same about the baby she did not actually carry....it's silly to think she wouldn't. BESIDES, her twin sister carried it...can't get much closer than that. Congrats to all!

Tedsaralee, how rude of you. I bet your are the smartest person in the world, who's done all the right things in your life...... Who knows where the kids in other countries come from, you said? Who cares? They are children! And a baby coming from a mother who didnt have a clue to use birth control has nothing to do with the mother. I dont think anyone is that dumb that they dont know how to take a pill or use protection. they may FORGET or NOT WANT TO, but that doesnt make their child less intelligent. And, even if it did, there are all kinds of people in the world, smart, not as smart, slow learners, honor students, they are all special and have their own special talents and special personalities.

Being adopted (and born in the very late 60's), I often say that if abortion were legal when I was conceived, I might not be here. Regardless, it doesn't negate the fact that this woman was QUADRUPLY blessed - thrice over with her children, and another with her sister. May God bless this beautiful family!!!
