A coast-to-coast roundup of violent criminals snags more than 35,000 fugitives. "Operation Falcon" has been conducted annually since 2005, and has resulted in more than 91,000 arrests. This year, the score includes about 430 people wanted for murder, about 900 suspected gang members and about 2,350 suspected sex offenders.

Police say advertising executive Richard Shenkman, who allegedly kidnapped his ex-wife and held her hostage in their former home for 13 hours, torched the house before being taken into custody in South Windsor, Conn. The hostage, 57-year-old Nancy Tyler, escaped to safety about an hour before the fire started.
