A week after a stray bullet hit a New York City teen in the head, the girl awakens to say her first word: "Mom." The chief of neurosurgery at Lincoln Hospital calls Vada Vasquez's survival a "miracle" and says she has the potential to fully recover.

Police say a North Carolina man drove his car into a hot dog stand after the vendor refused to sell him a hot dog and a drink for a dollar. David Kelbaugh, 23, allegedly got into his car and rammed the stand twice, then fled. He was subsequently arrested and released on $6,000 bond.

After giving a bank teller a note demanding money, a robber breaks down in tears and confides that he has medical problems. Police are searching for the suspect, who also told the teller that he used to work at that the bank.

Michael Brewer, the 15-year-old Florida boy who was set on fire by a group of teens, is concentrating on his recovery instead of dwelling on the attack, his mom says. Valerie Brewer says her son is still in intense pain, but he endures it. "He's my hero," she says.

In April 2006, an irritated David Hackbart gave the finger to a driver who yelled at him -- only to discover that he had flipped off a cop. After Hackbart was ticketed, the ACLU sued on his behalf, arguing that the gesture is constitutionally protected free speech. Now the Pittsburgh City Council has tentatively approved a $50,000 settlement to Hackbart.

An Indiana father is arrested after he calls 911 to report his tractor-trailer missing -- with his son inside. On the call, the 39-year-old man says his truck was stolen while he was in a strip club. Police charge him with child neglect and public intoxication after the child was found safe in the semi, right where the man said he parked it.
