Any state that bans stem cell research (as Oklahoma may do) should also be banned from benefitting from any medical advances that come from stem cell research. Simple solution for those simpleminded conservatives...

Life begins at conception as the baby (embryo) can die independently of the mother ie: miscarriage, and not kill the mother. But as Obama himself said," It's above my paygrade" to know when life begins, as stated in the Pastor Rick forum.

To quote the article: "Stem cells are typically derived from fertility clinic surplus, destined for destruction." At the point where these embryos are going to die either way, it seems crazy to prevent scientists to deconstruct them in a way that ultimately promotes life and well-being, and instead just let them rot in the landfill. Stem cell researchers are not the unique cause of embyonic death, and fertility clinics toss away thousands of embryos every year, so why is everyone trying to tie irrelevant pro-life arguments in?

Obama seems a classic Type "D" personality. He makes decisions for the sake of making decisions without doing any "homework". Using embryonic stem cells has been proven to cause defects. Adult stem cells have been used successfully as therapy for numerous conditions and shows genuine promise without the needless destruction of human life. It is consistant with the type of logic Obama uses such as signing the Freedom Of Choice Act (FOCA), otherwise known as the "birth control welfare program" will reduce the number of abortions(?), signing a massive spending bill , in which he admits, has a large amount of "pork" (which he is against?) ...and let's not forget, on his third day in office (with the economy being first on his "to do" list, he signs an executive order so that now U.S. taxpayers dollars are funding international groups that advocate abortions(?) Can't wait to see what happens after he closes G-bay prison. A presedential pardon for the prisoners, maybe?

There are many places to get stem cells without killing babies (or as Tani would prefer...Embryos) Why are we not trying to use these alternatives.

SunnydawnDS babbled: This is TERRIBLE!!! Obama is allowing babies to be created by joining sperm and egg and then destroying them for stupid science. MILLIONS of babies will be destroyed for nothing, it is truely evil. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ -------------------------------- MORON, the embryos were created for in vitro fertilization. Not everyone is Octomom, so there are almost always leftover embryos that are discarded as medical waste. Nobody is creating embryos for research. And FYI - embryos are not babies.

Drjeff21 babbled: What President Obama did when he reversed President Bush's executive order banning embryonic stem cell research was based not on solid science, but his desire to cater to the anti-life, pro-abortion forces and their media allies who helped elect him. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ --------------------------------What an incredibly stupid thing to say. If you don't want embryos that are going to be DESTROYED to be used for research for lifesaving cures, then YOU are anti-life. None of you rightwing fringe types seem to be able to wrap your tiny brains around the fact that these are embryos left over from IVF, and would be discarded as medical waste if not used for research.
