Non sequitur of the day
Cenk Uygur argues as follow regarding Rudy Giuliani: (1) Giuliani is leading now in polls among Republican voters, (2) Giuliani's life doesn't reflect adherence to family values, (3) therefore, Republican voters don't care about family values (they just use them as a "front to to hate guy people," you see). But, to identify just one problem with this argument, Republican voters (even social conservatives) who prefer Giuliani may well do so because other issues matter more to them than his failure to be a good family man. Such voters cannot be said to be indifferent to family values; they can only be said to care about another issue or set of issues more deeply.

1. Pity the poor liberal. He/she can't figure out how issues other than abortion can ever rise above that level of importance. Let's hope they just continue to misunderestimate conservatives.

2. Cenk Uygur, clearly lack common sense and the ablity to reason or understand. His bias forces him into bizarre twists of false logic.

4. Yeah, that post is a FARCE! Everyone knows that a couple of cryptic, random passages about sodomy are the REAL MEAT of God's word. That adultery thing? We threw it out the window with the REST of those so-called "commandments." It's about as useless as those other ones... what were they about again? OH YEAH! Something about not KILLING, LYING, COVETING, STEALING, and there was one about LOVING THY something or other. Jeez, talk about living in a SEPTEMBER 10th world!

5. Those Republicans polled may just favor Rudy G.
because of his electability. I, for one, would
love to see the rematch of the 2000 N.Y. Senate
race which he was forced to withdraw from early on
due to cancer. Mrs. Bill luckily won by default
that time. Anyone care to speculate on the outcome
of a rematch?

6. I have seen this type of argument A LOT with liberals..... it is almost 'teenage logic'.....
I support the war, therefore I raising violent children.
Vietman was a war that did not turn out so well for America. Iraq is a war, therefore Iraq must be a that will not turn out so well for America.
This type of logic brings only one word to mind - SIMPLETON.
But you have to admit, it is quite funny to hear the poor guy keep coming back for more - each time with a new gotcha (at least in his own mind)..... I'm beginning to feel pity - must leave now.

7. Paul is certainly correct that GOP supporters of Rudy Giuliani care more about the war on terror and related security issues than how many divorces Rudy has had. I continue to marvel at how many liberals are trying to make the "Rudy's not acceptable to conservatives" argument. It obvious that they know he's the guy who can beat Hillary, Obama, or any other Democrat presidential hopefuls. They are afraid of Rudy.

8. C'mon Paul, you've beaten Cenk to a bloody pulp in here. I officially declare a standing 8 count.

9. Well, when Lefties want to know what conservatives think and base their decisions on, they'll tell you what conservatives think and base their decisions on. After all, Lefties know what conservatives think waaaaaay more than conservatives do.

10. Wow, you all seem to really love this Paul guy and hate Cenk. However, despite all of his over the top posts, I do believe he is right to assert that there is some really poor arguing going on here. Paul got Cenk's argument all wrong and then tells everyone that he "deconstructed" Cenk's blog.
Cenk never argued that because Giuliani is leading in the polls republican voters don't care about family values.
Instead, Cenk argues
"They pretend to be for family values and then don't bother to do anything that actually helps families."
And a link in his blog provides further argument from him concerning this theory.
"I have never seen a well-publicized, well-financed effort by the right to reach out to families in need. No effort to make sure families can stay together through the hard times. No effort to comfort and take care of the needs of real families in America."
However, Cenk then points out,
"I have seen a ton of gay bashing disguised as caring about "traditional marriages" and "family values." I have never seen a poll that showed that conservatives actually give a damn about how a politician actually treats his real family. But in the last poll I saw, the three leading Republican candidates — Rudy Giuliani, John McCain and Newt Gingrich — were all divorced."
There is a decent argument here that is being ignored by a poor attempt at deconstruction. Essentially, why is it that repub elected officials are no more a moral compass for the family than the average Joe, and they don't make affirmative efforts to support the family, yet they use "family values" to decry gay marriage and gay rights?
