Newt Gingrich's Spanish Apology
How do you not love this? Are any of the Republicans who hate "the illegals" going to vote for him after this? Yeah, yeah, I know they claim it's not about them being Mexican, but about them being illegal. Get real, the Tom Tancredo crowd that watches this video will never consider voting for Gingrich again.
Here's the whole Gingrich apology on You Tube (for his 'ghetto' comment). It's both painful and funny at the same time. It goes on and on. Somebody make him stop.
So, does this make it better? Is apology accepted? And do you believe him that he didn't really mean that Spanish was the language of the ghetto?

I assume that the diversionary tactic of your latest diatribe posting means you still haven't found a vaccine for the epidemic of "Neo-Lib" foot-in-mouth disease.

I wouldn't appologize for anything.

8. The Young Turks, in demontrating their contempt, indeed, their hatred for anyone who would speak to an idea condemned by the thought police, demostrate the balkinization and therefore the corruption of our country, done in the name of diversity. The former speaker is an intelligent man. His remark was obviously not intended to criticize hispanic peoples. Minorities however, often, as here, use their over sensivity as a weapon.

10. If his apology is accepted, then we also have to think that when a person who has an above-average education, is brought up in an English-speaking environment and considered a good speaker
-- when such a person has to admit that he had a problem expressing his real thoughts (which he obviously thougth in English)and used the wrong English-language words; it is hard to take him seriously on his idea that everyone has to or is is capable of learning English.
As for his Spanish-language skills: His apology in Spanish was a word-by-word translation that sounded very affected and unnatural. He could have used a pronunciation coach to speak more clearly and a drama coach to seem sincere.

11. If he such an intelligent man, he would have not made such a stupid, false statement.
We should replace bilingual education with immersion in English so people learn the common language of the country and they learn the language of prosperity, (If he was a smart man, he could have ended his sentence right there. An opinion he is entitled to. But to add the following eight words shows a lack of intelligence.) not the language of living in a ghetto.
Those last eight words are just plain false. There are many successful bilingual Americans. There is no proof that is the language of living in a ghetto. What I find ironic, is that his apology is in Spanish, which negates his original opinion about being bilingual. Flip flop on tape. Thanks. dr

12. ROBERT HARKINS writes that "[t]he former speaker is an intelligent man. His remark was obviously not intended to criticize Hispanic peoples."
That's a little disingenuous don't you think? Here is what the "former speaker" actually said.
"The American people believe English should be the official language of the government. ... We should replace bilingual education with immersion in English so people learn the common language of the country and they learn the language of prosperity, not the language of living in a ghetto,"
Clearly, the "former speaker" was elevating the English language and ridiculing the languages of our immigrants. Yes, Mr. Harkins he is an intigent individual. However, he was clearly pandering to his audience in an effort to prove that he is in strong support of English only government. Now that he was caught he is pandering to the potential Latino voters he might have insulted.
Oh, and I am not a member of the thought police. I am simply an individual that believes our poloticians should show respect for the citizens they represent.

14. ii don't think his comment is anymore harmful then what some of the liberals have been known to say. I understand why everyone wants to attack Newt now, and next it will be somebody else.......but the fact is, these liberals or others that make some outlandish comments are probably worse then this comment from Newt.

15. Newt is fine. The beans will take what they get. Political correctness has become too expensive and has actually hurt America in a number of ways. It is time to simple tell the truth at all cost and not pretend otherwise.
