34. Why is it when someone expresses their opinion does everyone feel they have to apologize? yet others say its freedom of speech. English is the official lanugage of the United States and for those who come here illegal and can not and choose not to speak English well to bad. Newt has nothing to be sorry for. And should not have to apologize in Spanish for his opinion. Hey Vivi, you may hate to hear this but a lot of Spanish people are doing the same thing. I'm sure there were a lot of Europeans who wanted to still speak German, Croatian or Polish or whatever, and didn't want to learn the customs and the English language. 37. Gingrich should not have made the "ghetto language" comment because it is hurtful. However there is truth in that statement. People who come to the USA
MUST be able to speak passable English. Historically, immigrants who did not speak English tended to remain in ghettos with whom they were able to communicate in their native language. You cannot be assimilated into any culture unless you speak the language.

39. If you were to read the history of the Western Hemisphere you will learn that its inhabitants are by geography Americans. Hispanic refers to the geography of Hispania or Espana which is in Europe and not Mexico or Central America. Looking at the phenotype of most Mexicans you will see that they resemble Native Americans more than those of the United States and one would include the bulk of the population of Central and Andean America in this category. As for the word Latino as employed by simple minds in this country it is a word which is not recognizably a skin color as much as the language of the ancient Romans (Latium being the geography around the city of Rome). Latino gave birth to what are called the Romance languages of Europe namely French, Italian, Portuguese, Romanian and Spanish. The word Latino is actually generic and it refers to those people who speak Romance languages skin color notwithstanding. It was at once traditional to call Mexican Americans "chicanos" as way of distinguishing them from other Spanish speaking inhabitants. And that ought to be their designation since many of them share little in common with other groups who identify themselves as speaking a Latin based language.

His apology will be accepted by the majority of the liberals but what the liberals think is funny is that he apologizes in Spanish, that goes totally against everything he stands for. Don't you find that ironic? That's like me saying, no more German speaking here, English only. No German!! it is a Ghetto language. Then, I turn around and apologize in German. Just doesn't quite make sense. I guess he could have apologized in English, and said, "I still believe in English only, but I'm sorry about that Spanish Ghetto language thing. I over shot it, for that I'm sorry, but make no mistake, my message is still the same." He could have said that, but he didn't, and that is why liberals will come after him like a lion goes after a wounded deer. They'll feast on that for a while. Is that the liberals fault? No.

If a Republican made the Jesse Jackson remark, he too would lose his chance at the Presidency. As far as ex-KKK guys go, yeah, you're probably right, if Tom Delay or Oren Hatch were ex-KKK members and denounce their membership, the press would be on them a little harder, wanting to know if they still feel the same as they did years ago. But John Kerry got his butt kicked, and lost his chance at running again, because of a joke he told wrong. If that was Romney or Guiliani who told the wayward joke, the same would have happened to them. But, certain people would cry "foul", the media came after them because they were Republicans, the "bias" "hypocrite" stigma would prevail, these same people seem to forget about "Kerry's" blunder, or Biden's word blunder about Obama. These two candidates paid for these blunders, both these politicians apologized, (like Newt) but were still made fun of in the late night talk show circuit. I don't know about "casting in the river of fire in Hades" but if Obama said "Spanish is a ghetto language' he would surely lose the nomination. Because the Liberals in American wouldn't stand for that kind of reckless rhetoric. So, I disagree with the premise of liberal hypocrites. Thanks. dr
