67. If Spanish is so ghetto, how come he can't handle it? I am against illegal immigration like anyone else, but to attack the language sounds very ignorant and stupid for someone who teaches college like he does. Spanish is a beautiful language, rich in literature and song, poetry. It is not an easy language to learn, as we see he can't a lick of it, he is just reading a script, badly I may add. I do get what he means, they should learn english to succeed, and our nation's main language is English. But Spanish in itself is not a ghetto language. That was the stupid part.

69. You guys simply amaze me. The man voiced an opinion that our laws be enforced, that we educate all of our children in the language that will enable them to have a chance at success in THIS country and in the process save the country BILLIONS of tax dollars.

And you don't like it??

Nobody wants to shut some kid from the American dream and I don't think the speaker does either. If you refer to his statment, I believe mentions something to the effect that we should focus on teaching these kids english so that they can learn the other subjects (in english) as well.

To me, this is a great idea. Perhaps, we should have a one year program for these kids in which they focus soley on learning the language and upon completion of this course, pick up their regular studies the following year.

I have a family member that is foreign born. He was focused and had a very good working knowledge of english in a couple of months. At the age of 31, went to school and now teaches,, are you ready,,, American Literature at the local community college.

In the end, it all boils down to this,,, regardless of the program(s) we offer these kids, as in all arenas of life, some will make the effort and succeed while others will not and wind up on welfare.

70. I beleive that that is the unadulterated truth. The english language is being slaughterd! I can't stand to get on the phone to call ? an automated recording comes on an says " If you would LIKE TO CONTINUE IN ENGLISH PRESS ONE!!!! This is AMERICA and our forefathers where also immigrants AND THEY LEARNED to speak ENGLISH. You did not have someone saying " now what language do you want to speak?" when they had to do bussiness in there day to day living activties. No documents were printed special in Irish or German or Italian ect. It was written in English and you learned to read it write it and you blended with the American Culture. You became American and you spoke ENGLISH. For those of you who disagree with this go and live in their Country and speak their Language ALL YOU WANT!

73. I think I need to add I am not against bi lingual AMERICANS. I myself speak 2 languages. I think we should all learn to speak another language so that we can function in a global economy. However having said that, when I am in AMERICA I speak ENGLISH. When I am in the Netherland I SPEAK DUTCH because its arrogant and rude to make the people of that country accomadate me so that I can function in their country. I am for education and to teach people to speak ENGLISH. I draw a line though when a requirement now days is for teachers having to speak spanish so that they can be employed to teach our children. I don't have a problem having special teachers for after school to teach English to spanish speaking children. But I do have a problem when it cost AMERICAN tax payers to do it. I beleive the parents should pay for their children to Learn English. Not you or I,because I am in their Country, and I must try to speak it correctley, so that I may be understood. Its a form of respect for the Country. If you come here to America and you refuse to speak the Language and adhere to the customs of our land YOU are Showing that you do not respect this COUNTRY. And I want you out of here!!!!

I am ashamed of weak politcians who keep apoligizing for what they beleive in or simply stating truth.It's not good for this country and they empower the offended by apologizing.Say what you mean and mean what you say! Stand by it and people will respect you better in the long run Don't make a stand then back up.
