Nancy Pelosi's visit to Syria has met with the approval of Islamic Jihad and the terrorist from the Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigades who seized the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem. But, to their credit, key elements of the liberal press in this country continue to be appalled by Pelosi's attempt at diplomacy with Syria. Thus, USA. Today finds that "Pelosi stepped out of bounds on [her] ill-conceived trip to Syria." USA. Today happens to disagree with the administration's policy of not talking to Syria. However, it understands that disagreement with the president is no excuse to "violate the long-held understanding that the United States should speak with one official voice abroad - even if the country is deeply divided on foreign policy back home." In other words, USA Today understands the meaning of loyal opposition in our democratic system.

IS ANYONE CONSIDERING A CHARGE OF TREASON?"
No. That's just right-wing echo chamber propaganda, like that we read at Powerline, that has nothing to do with reality. The reality is that Mrs. Pelosi will go whereever she pleases and you will stop letting the right wingers lead you around by the nose.
Have a nice day.

47. Ms. Pelosi stepped way out of bounds. She was asked not to go by higher level government officials. Because she really thinks she is "Queen Nancy" she does not think she has to follow the law of the land. And to see her parading around with the head scarf and being subservient is trying to send women back over a hundred years. When elections time comes again I hope women remember that if we elect someone like Nancy Pelosi we will be wearing these scarves as a requirement in the USA!
There should be a special prosocuter assigned and she should be brought up on charges (Loagan Act) and she should be shunned by her associates as a traitor to this democratic country......the USA!
And I feel the same way about any democrat, republican or independent that goes against out government in this way. THis is not a partisan or bi-partisan issue. This is an American issue. But when the # 3 in the chain of command has such disregard for our govenment she should be made to pay the price! Did not a republican speaker lose his position for a much lesser offense? For a statement that was not criminal like this is? Is this not a felony? Would you let her rob a bank or abuse a child because she is in her position politically? Set politics aside and take action because she committed a grievous crime against our Country.

50. NANCY PELOSI IS ACTING ON BEHALF OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.
THE IMAGE OF GEORGE BUSH IN THE REST OF THE FREE WORLD IS NOT THAT OF ADMIRATION OR RESPECT.
THE FACT STILL REMAINS THAT WHEN THE SEES HIS FACE, THEY SEE THE FACE OF AMERICA.
PELOSI IS OUT TO TELL THE WORLD THAT THE CHIMP DOES NOT REPRESENT THE INTEREST OF AMERICANS, NOR THAT OF ANY OTHER CITIZEN OF THE PLANET EARTH.
WAY TO GO NANCY! LET THE REST OF THE WORLD KNOW WE F****D UP WHEN BUSH WAS INSERTED INTO THE WHITE HOUSE, AND WE ARE A GREAT PEOPLE THAT ARE WORTH LOOKED UPON TO LEAD THE REST OF THE WORLD WITH RESPECT, NOT A TERRORIST NATION OUT TO OPRESS WHOEVER, WHEREVER, AND WHENEVER, JUST BECAUSE WE HAVE AN IDIOT AS THE HEAD OF STATE.
GOD BLESS THE USA. DOWN WITH IDIOTS WHO ARE SOILING OUR NAME.

51. So Pelosi was wrong? I disagree. What was wrong was when Hastert went to Columbia in 1997 and told them to bypass clinton. here is a quote:
"congressional delegation led by Rep. Dennis Hastert (R-IL) which met with Colombian military officials, promising to “remove conditions on assistance” and complaining about “leftist-dominated” U.S. congresses of years past that “used human rights as an excuse to aid the left in other countries.” Hastert said he would to correct this situation and expedite aid to countries allied in the war on drugs and also encouraged Colombian military officials to “bypass the U.S. executive branch and communicate directly with Congress.”
Why weren't people screaming then? Before anyone responds check out what hastert did. I find the doublespeak on this issue amazing. Pelosi did what the Iraq Study Group said to do and she is wrong? We have lacked diplomacy in this country for too long and for this American, it is great to see it back in action.

52. If there are certain countries the United States can't or won't talk to then it's clear even the United States Government recognizes itself that the stature and prestige of the country has deteriorate under the current Administration. Nancy Pelosi has demonstrated just how poorly Administration offcials view themselves and their Administration's effectiveness while at the same time illustrating that the United States of America is not a war-mongering nation and is willing to negotiate the end to any hostile activity.

53. Right wing Commentators fail to see the hypocrisy. The hipocrisy is so obvious to the point of being ridiculous. In addition to the Republican delegation who met with Assad James Baker and Chuck Hagel are also advocting this type of change in strategy.

54. She made me ashamed for her and for my country. She looked like a litte retro piemaker rather than a peace maker. This wasn't her job. She's not Condi Rice. She's not an ambassador. She's not president. She was a woman after votes for her party--and wow! Did she ever blow it.

55. Nancy Pelosi is complicit with Mr. Reid and the news agencies in bringing anarchy to the United States. They demonstrate outright contempt for our nations' policies and leaders and they cause the US great harm. I thought there would be a chance with her, but they (Pelosi and Reid) spend all of their time trying to criminalize their opposition. And now THIS! They are scaring me, really. In other countries, like Syria, the opposition are shot. These people just humiliate them and try to tarnish them, rack up false charges that don't stick, and send them to the poor house. Shooting may be a quicker, easier death than what this bunch does to their own citizens right here in the US. She's arrogant, insolent, and this woman should be charged with treason to her country. What is the difference between what she is doing and an outright overthrow of a sitting government anywhere else in the world? Envision "leaders" ANYWHERE else in the Free world doing what she is doing!! Ridiculous. She is contemptable and so is Mr. Reid. They are traitors to their country. It can't be seen any other way. I hate to think I would ever say this about other American leaders in my life, I am saying it now. The people are real traitors to the US!

56. I find that Nancy Pelosi more then overstepped her bounds on this one, how dare she, The Speaker of the House undermine our government, who she is representing. Bush, Clinton neither of them has attempted to negotiate with this man yet Pelosi feels she should. I am embarassed and freightened by this, if she thinks she's so powerful what other treasonous thing will she do next.
As Speaker of the House she is supposed to be a representative of THE PEOPLE, it appears to me that Nancy Pelosi has her own agenda and it has nothing to do with THE PEOPLE.
I feel Pelosi's actions has not only undermind the US government, but she at the same time has underminded what has taken decades for women to accomplish, proving that the "Female Intuition" isn't always what it's cracked up to be.
What gives her the authority or the audacity to feel she's above the US government and can "talk" to anyone she feels she wants to, HELLO NANCY YER NOT PRESIDENT YET, cool yer jets woman, yer setting a bad precidence for other women in authority not to mention what this is doing to the decline of the morale of the People in this country.
First she wants a BIGGER JET, now what like Brain she wants to TAKE OVER THE WORLD. Stay the hell home and leave diplomacy to those trained and knowledgeable in it, get us better health care, lower our taxes and keep a watchful eye on Bush and his associates, stay the hell out of Middle East we've screwed this up enough already.

57. CHEERS, FOR PELOSI!Bush/Cheney and all these Neocons putting down Pelosi for trying to get a dialogue with Syria are NUMBSKULLS. We must have some sort of dialogue with all countries or wind up like Bush has...no major allies, in his two wars. Hopefully, Pelosi has made in-roads, no matter how minute to get a dialogue with Bush's adversary. He destroyed the chance for any kind of peace with any nation, when he invaded Iraq, after the UN defeated his resolution to go to war, going unilateraly. He is a man who cannot be reasoned with on anything. "My way or the highway" types, make for poor Presidential material.. His position is our country should support him when he's DEAD WRONG and has been for 7 years, on every level? He's semi-retarded and should never have been in charge of leading our country. Impeachment is the only option of getting rid of a manical President and this insane administration. Go, Pelosi, Go! There were Republicans visiting Syria a few days before Pelosi got there. Trying for some kind of dialogue for some sort of peace is better than sitting on their rump in Washington, being a bully. Bush has put our lives in jeopardy long enough with his arrogant attitude.

58. The only thing Nancy forgot was to be photographed in a Syrian Tank. This is Jane Fonda all over again. Where does she get off thinking our enemies want to hear from HER? They believe her to be a stupid woman, not worthy to appear before them without covering her head! Apparently, Nancy hasn't been listening or watching for the past 6 years!
Alakatt at 11:48AM on Apr 7th 2007
59. Oh please, let's keep it real. Congressmen Frank Wolf, Robert Aderholt, Joseph Pitts, David Hobson, and Darrell Issa all visited Syria this week. They're all Republicans. Rep. Hobson (R-OH) is a strong supporter of Israel. He was there with Nancy Pelosi. He has, in fact, made clear on numerous interviews that Rep. Pelosi "reinforced Administration policy."
So what is their position now? That only Republicans can go to Syria? Or is it that only male members of Congress can?
The reality is that the BIPARTISAN Congressional delegation, lead by Nancy Pelosi, did what the BIPARTISAN Iraq Study Group advocates: open dialogue with Syria and other countries neighboring Iraq. James Baker has far more credibility on moving forward on Iraq than George Bush and USA Today, any day.
The truth is that seeing other people have to scramble to clean up the mess you made is more humiliating than making it even worse.

60. Yes, of course the Pelosi trip was a mistake. Against white House orders, a unqualified far left liberal was trying to play foreign diplomat; confusion at best. Americans did not vote to surrender.
Democrats = Surrender and Defeat. We are very disappointed in the democrats, as we trusted them to have some semblance of a plan. After all, 87 dems voted for the war; when things turn difficult anyone can whine and complain, but we had hope they would have something more than a cut and run away plan. Come to think of it, America really did not vote for today's democrat, but against Mark Foley and did not bargin for the far left liberal. Well, we will have a serious look at this blunder in 2008 and beyond.
