Nancy Pelosi's visit to Syria has met with the approval of Islamic Jihad and the terrorist from the Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigades who seized the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem. But, to their credit, key elements of the liberal press in this country continue to be appalled by Pelosi's attempt at diplomacy with Syria. Thus, USA. Today finds that "Pelosi stepped out of bounds on [her] ill-conceived trip to Syria." USA. Today happens to disagree with the administration's policy of not talking to Syria. However, it understands that disagreement with the president is no excuse to "violate the long-held understanding that the United States should speak with one official voice abroad - even if the country is deeply divided on foreign policy back home." In other words, USA Today understands the meaning of loyal opposition in our democratic system.

61. You people defending Pelosi are naiive, pacifist idiots, plain and simple. There is NO EXCUSE OR JUSTIFICATION for what she's done here. We cannot have elected representatives of Pelosi's rank running around meeting with high ranking officials in rogue foreign nations like Syria, no matter how much some dipshit pundits here think it might "help" move along what they selfishly construe as a "failed" diplomatic process.
This action by Pelosi has CLEARLY undermined the status of our President and State Department, and their CONSTITUTIONAL role as the directors of our nation's foreign policy, and demonstrates not only her ignorance of our history and the limitations of her constitutional role as House Speaker, but also hers and her party's total contempt for the LAUDABLE and WELL-REASONED efforts of this President and his State Dept. to isolate and rein in the activities of nations like Iran, Syria and North Korea.
You didn't "help" Nan. You hurt us all ... BADLY. I would think that 1,000 years of history would have taught even a lib knucklehead simp like you that projecting ANY image of weakness or capitulation to brute totalitarianism in the Middle East does nothing but make these despots more aggressive in the exact behaviors we are trying to change.
Peace through strength, Nan. Repeat that 1,000 times. Peace through strength.

62. Does this woman know what her duties are? Think she oversteped the line.

63. It's about time that the current adminstration own up to all of their mistakes including ones made with with foregin policy. If other people have violated the Logan act then why should she be the first one accountable? This is really about Ms. Pelosi being an independent foward thinking female. She has shown that hse has the skills to negotiate with people of power, so the adminstration should be open to her support not waste their time condeming it.

64. People that validate the outrageous conduct of arrogant anarchist and traitor Pelosi will reap the consequences of their hero's actions right along with the rest of us here in the US. She needs to be thrown out of office like a drunk from the local bar on Saturday night.

65. If the Logan Act had ever been enforced, John "Horsehead" Kerry would be in federal prison and not spending his life being a part-time senator with a full-time mouth. Violation of the Logan Act with the addition of Treason would have done the trick.

66. Nancy Pelosi has caused our country a lot of embarrassment. I am so embarrassed by her and she is making a mess of things. She has demonstrated herself to be extremely mean spirited and arrogant. She is only about Nancy, that is obvious.

67. Why is it alright that Republicans can do things and they holler when Democrats engage in such. When Clinton was in office, many Republicans visited foreign leaders. At any rate, if Bush and company cannot find it in their hearts to communicate, then why not, someone else. Are people angry because Bush does not have the intellilgence or grits to communicate with these people? Get a life and where were you when the Republicans were doing the same thing that they now accuse Nancy of doing.

68. LOL, Mr Bush and his white house liers, thugs and cheats have murdered many people in the name of money while holding a Bible in one hand a American flag in the other and all while we the tax payer pay for at the pump and are tax dollers. While the rich get richer and are boy's are killed for his war of lies. Bush and his bud's should be set off to one of those camps so that FBI and CIA can beat the you know what out of them to get to the truth.

69. How will we get proper charges filed against Pelosi?
Probably will not happen, but we need to push forward and set an example. Jesse Jackson will be going next!
Linda at 1:34PM on Apr 7th 2007
70. What can we do to get proper charges brought against Ms. Pelosi? This MUST be done, right away.
As usual, she says she is helping the President. Some of these democrats will stand there and look you dead in the eye and tell you that white is black, and because they said so, it is true.

71. Republicans have become so pathetic.Diplomacy is not even a concept anymore.
marie at 1:41PM on Apr 7th 2007
72. ok, for you morons that either are a complete dumbass, or just dont pay attention, the 3 republicans went to syria to try and get them to listen to world opinion.

73. House Speaker Pelosi has demonstrated courage where previously there was none. Our country, like it or not, has made some serious blunders in foreign policy decisions over the past sixty years. Not stepping forth to discuss issues is not productive in the least. Mrs. Pelosi has shown a willingness to communicate, a must first step in bringing about a solution in any scenario. We have grave problems in our country with regard to our being tolerant of cultures beyond our own. Even vestiges of the era of slavery continue to be fostered by the great majority of our citizens... knowingly or unknowingly. The world extends much further than our shores, missile defense systems are no guarantee that we'll survive a concerted attack - and it can happen when people have the attitude that they are impervious to the rule of law. I certainly applaud Mrs Pelosi's trip and, I trust that it shall not be her last.
Since the sixties I've been awaiting the moment when the "better half" of our population would step out of the shadow of a male dominated society, and set forth on a course more reflective of reality." Nuturing is necessary for all things, women are inherently blessed in this department, while at the same time quite capable of dealing heavy blows when necessary." Thank You Mrs Pelosi for giving hope where there existed none.

74. Nancy Pelosi hasn't done many productive moves, since becoming the leader of Congress. Whether or not it was her place to make this trip, it is a step in the right direction. During the past Six years, America has made enemies of some countries and alienated some of our allies. We have bad mouthed the UN and changed our presence to the world from leader to war monger. The current Foreign Policies portray us as being uncompromising, secretive and untrustworthy.
Ms. Pelosi's actions could make a change, in the way the world sees us. It could show the freedom we enjoy and not all Americans follow our governments way, dealing with other nations if a also can be seen as laying the ground work, when a change of leadership is made, in the future elections.
What I have said in refrence to Ms. Pelosi's trip, are what I would hope, are the intentions Ms. Pelosi has, making these visits. Another motive could be asking Syria, if they are aiding the Insurgents fighting in Iraq, to stop any future help, work toward ending the bloodshed and the war. I can't think of other motives for her, making this trip.

75. The rivalries and fanatical theologies between countless "players" inside these Middle Eastern countries dictate that simplified "talking it out" is lunacy, a complete waste of time. The factions INSIDE these countries can't talk to EACH OTHER. They completely militarize their countries and hype the extreme factors of Islam to keep their own countries under control. It's a violent life and death scenario within these countries and has been for centuries. Our nation has a State Department, along with the CIA, that is charged with trying to keep our nation safe, and it's a minute by minute slippery slope on good days. They don't need loose cannons like Pelosi mucking things up. Israel is expending limited resources to repair Pelosi damage just in their country. The Islamic extremists see Pelosi as a "weak link" in pursuing their Jihad against the USA. Of course they sing her praises! She just opened the door and invited them in. These Islamic extremists are more dangerous now that they have easy access to countries across the globe. They have access to technologies that widens the path and degree of destruction to those they consider their enemies. Just being an "infidel" to them is enough "reason" to kill us. Nancy Pelosi, by thumbing her nose at her own country's State Department and President, literally, and going to meet these dangerous thugs, told them they can USE THE FRONT DOOR, the key's under the mat.
