Sanjaya's story gets better. The guy could have decided to remain mediocre (or worse) and ride the VFTW and Howard Stern wave, which should have surely gotten him through a few more episodes. Likewise he could have gone freakier with the hair. (I was convinced that he'd come out in full Shakira mode for tonight's Latin show.)
Instead he faked us all out ... and turned in the best performance of the night.
Yes, the best. Maybe not technically. But he totally connected with the camera, like an old pro. He didn't stare into the camera like a zombie. Completely relaxed, he sang to people at home and managed to sell an intimate song intimately. Remember, this is a 17 year old guy who's been raked over the coals and mocked 24/7 for the last month!
I'll give JLo some credit. She seemed to sincerely believe in him. Until this point I was ready to blame her for the blandness of the other performances.
I think Phil is going tomorrow. The judges came down too hard on Haley and that may provoke a backlash on her behalf. Phil was boring and pulled out the "I have a cute baby" card. That's annoying.

1. The last I heard this guy gor a two week
suspension, which is a farce.Better celebrities
than him have been fired from radio and TV for
less. This means the station where he works
condones what he did and a two week supension is
just a slap on the wrist. Itlelligent people who
make disparaging remarks on the air about any
ethnic group knows excatly what they're saying
an apologies later are nothing but jokes.

2. I don't care how the kid sings (which is not bad - not fabulous) he exudes the personality of an entertainer, but what does impress me the most is that this IS only a 17 year old with the stage skills and the pleasant calmness of someone that has been in front of millions regularly for years.

3. Well he might sing better in Spanish than in English, but one decent performance doesn't negate the previous two months of lousy performances. This is nothing but a ploy to dirupt the American Idol voting system, and it's working! Unfortunately, if he becomes the next Idol, he won't sell any records, he may make a few late night talk show performances, and star in a few B rated movies, but before you know it he'll be a wash up, faster than those before him.

4. I thought he did well last night and what an essence to hear the big putts Simon say "I didn't understand a word." This kid isn't stupid. I think I'd rather pick him over Blake and Chris to be honest with you. As far Haley, I really enjoyed the way she did her song. Krisp and clear. Simon shouldn't be commenting on what anyone wears. He was bashing Lekisha and now remarks about Haley. This guy has crossed the line for family programming.

6. I have been watching American Idol since day one and never have I seen such horrible talent. I think this whole Sanjaya thing should be a lesson to the judges next time don't send a less then so/so singer through to the next round. I think the show should fix the results no one would ever know he should have been gone (actually he should have never been there) weeks ago

9. Come on people give the kid a break after all he is only 17. I think he does very well. I like his stage presence, the singing I have heard has been better than average. And the song from last night was beautiful even though like Simon I could not understand it, it had a very calming gentle romantic sound to it. I say Lets hear it for Sanjaya.....God Bless, and I am praying for you Sanjaya....

10. I agree with Chad, and the problem here is that this young kid is being used in a very cruel way. He's a sweet kid with a thin, sweet sounding little voice. He'll never make it even if he's voted as the next Idol. Charaisma isn't going to save him. The industry will chew him up and spit him out in no time. Why does America think that's funny?
