2296. Aaaah this Sharpton is simply a self-promoter, Dr. King never espoused a philosophy that dictated taking someone off like this Sharpton did to Imus. I am no Imus sympathizer but I know Dr. King would not have wanted what happened here, in Dr. King's words and actions it was never about how may of yours or how many of ours can be knocked down because of course he knew the undeniable which is the minorities always end up on the wrong side of that philosophy, instead Dr. King spoke of equality and he spoke of equality and mutuality of obligation and tolerance of differences and diversity in the sense of being complimentary, this tactic of holding oneself out as the self proclaimed watch dog or moral barometer is totally absurd and diminishes the lessons and achievements of the civil rigths movement: remember the NAACP rejected separate but equal and elected integration.No doubt this Imus talked more smack about the Pope and no one became all upity calling for job. I don't believe this conduct by the so-called activists is consistent with Dr. King's teachings, just my view.

2301. I dont know what the rest of the country has been watching but Don Imus deserved to lose his job. Not because of a racist comment he made last week, but because of the insulting comments he has been making his whole career. He argued that he "isn't an insulting person" when he calls actresses and models overweight when their fine, we already have a problem with eating disorders both ways in this country. He makes fun of people in power, we have a problem with authoritative power too. The power he had in his position was too much for him to handle. The comments he made, not only about african american women, but in many different situations led people to believe that they could do the same, which would be wrong. If it happened in a normal workplace it would lead to the same resulf after this many instances.

I'm sorry your children were picked on in school. In my humble opinion, it is not ok for anyone to use the words nigga, hoe, bitch etc. These words are demeaning. Doing "good" won't get us into heaven. Imus may have done many good things, however, he was wrong when he uttered those words. Caucasians in the south still refer to people of color as niggas. It is racist and it needs to stop. Just because rappers use these words does not make it ok. No individual...no human being is "better" than the other. You may own more "things" or be more knowledgeable in certain areas, your skin color, hair and eyes maybe differ...beneath all that, we are all the same. People of color built this country, yet often they are insulted and regarded as insignificant in the manner they are addressed. Imus insulted these women. He is sorry because people noticed and objected. If people had not spoken out and expressed outrage, he would still be on the job and no apology would have been made.
