My fellow blogger, Dinesh D'Souza, asks where atheists are when tragedies like Virginia Tech shooting happens? I'm not an atheist (I'm agnostic), but the answer is simple -- they don't have to be anywhere. They're not the ones with the grand theory of the wonderful, benevolent God who is going to save us all. A thousand times better question is -- where is Jesus?
Or Mohammed? Or Moses? Or Ganesh? Or Apollo? Or Thor? Why didn't any of them ride to the rescue? Here's the real answer, although it makes a lot of you very uncomfortable -- because they don't exist!
They don't do wonderful magic tricks. They're not waiting to the end of time (usually after most of the people on earth are killed according to the so-called holy books) to show up to rescue the few good people left. They're not going to show up any of these tragedies. Because they are a figment of your imagination.
Atheists have nothing to answer for. Whereas, all of the religions claim to have all the answers. So, here's a simple one: Where the hell were you when we needed you?
Yeah, I know, God works in mysterious ways. Excuses are a dime a dozen. You claim there's a magic man up in the sky, so you bear the burden of proof. Ante up. Where is he?

16. Well this page is actually kinda wierd to me. I am a very devote christian and i want to apologize for all those that have had to encounter christians who dont follow what they preach because for me that is so aggravating because in christianity we are to show you the love of christ not condem you. That is not our place because i can assure im not even close to perfect. Im not gonna press my beliefs on you but im just gonna tell you what i believe from reading the bible and experiences in life. First of all free will. We are given the choice of what to believe who to believe in and what we think is right and wrong. So many people think god isnt in something but your eyes are shaded from him while he was there the whole time. And that say god works in mysterious was is kinda odd even from a christian perspective because half the time i dont know what odd means. But i think what people are trying to say is that we may not understand why something horrible like the Virgina Tech tragety happens but that all things lead to another and in the end to some life being touch by the lord god. I know its hard for some people to understand these things if they are not in a relationship with the lord and even me a 17 yr old find it hard sometimes too. Trust me I have a lesbian sister and my dad was a drunk and i still havent figured out what these two things are goin to do for me in life and they hurt im not gonna lie. But in closing im gonna tell you no i dont have all the answers and no, no other christian does so if they tell you they do they are lying and the man you says is up in the sky is really down here on earth within my heart and so many others. O and i forgot denomonations were the worst thing to ever happen to the church.

17. You know I first heard of The Young Turks at the National Conference for Media Reform in Memphis earlier this year, I was genuinely in awe about what they were doing. But you know what? Bashing Christianity and saying God is not real as if it were a proven fact, is bull crap.
I don't bash Atheists or Agnostics because quite frankly their faith is their choice. But I do pray for them, that God would soften their hearts. I was an Agnostic, then Pagan, for several years. I became a Christian not because I was "brainwashed" or because I needed to use it as a crutch, or whatever else you want to rant about to make yourself feel better and make believers look dumb or nieve.
I accepted Jesus into my life, because for some reason He decided to reveal himself to me. It's nothing I can explain and I wouldn't expect you to understand, because you live in a world of science and cold hard facts. But just as real as your computer is to you, God is to me.
Its so crazy because so many people like The Young Turks are for media/social reform, equal rights, diversity, and anti-discrimination..but when it comes to Christianity those values go right out the door. Has anyone else noticed that?
If you REALLY want to know where God is. Don't ask us, seek him out. I don't have anything to do with your relationship or non-relationship with a God that you don't believe exists. If you really want to find the truth then pray for it. If He doesn't exist then you have nothing to worry about. If He does then you'll find out.
Just don't sit here and complain asking where he is if you're not actively seeking him out in your day to day life. I did that regularly even when I wasn't a Christian..I didn't know if he was real or not. I didn't sit on my butt waiting for God to appear, I actively seeked Him out. Your right, excuses are a dime a dozen. So what's yours?

18. Let's Be Real,
You should change your name to Let's Be Delusional.
"Science and cold hard facts..." Oh, such dirty words!
When will you idiots stop conflating atheism with science? One doesn't need to have a degree in evolutionary biology to be freed from the delusion that there's a magic man tinkering with the universe and awaiting us in an afterlife. The gift of reason is in most of us. You have exchanged this gift for the lunacy of believing in something for which there is zero evidence. Pretty dumb. But then again, you know the "truth," right? You just "know" that Jesus is real, and he's looking out for you... Right?
Because he appeared to you, somehow, in some way that you won't share. And why is that? Maybe because you know deep down that it's bullshit. But anyhow, carry on. If you can't deal with the thought that your life will one day end, and you are so anthropocentric that you can't manage to think of anything "bigger than yourself" other than a giant man in the sky, oh well. I guess you've found your fix and you're sticking with it. Kind of like Keith Richards and heroin.
Oh, and while you're at it. Stay away from hospitals. And any kind of electronic device. And automobiles and airplanes. And pretty much anything else that's been produced by science and people who dare to put stock in "cold hard facts."

19. Before I go to far, I will say one thing, don't question Jesus and his ways.
Jesus is real, and he is probably crying looking at some of the comments on this post.
Everything in the Bible came to be, and you will see more proof of that in the near future.
Natural disasters will start to occur more frequently and more disiases are going to appear.
In the near future, a single man will propose an idea to have a world that had one ruler, and that person will succed and he will rule this world. For a short time, though. Always remember that.

That was a very sad statement and I am sure that Dinesh will not be able to sleep for a week now that he knows what you think (or is that how little you do?).
Its nice to see that the scrapings from the bottom of my shoe can evolve into such an insignificant life: I guess it won't matter what happens with your life, huh?

21. Jesus was right in the middle of the whole thing. But bad things happen to good people. Evil is really evil. There is too much tolerance now. There are no absolutes anymore. Morals are disintegrating. Murder is wrong. There were many redflags but people didn't want to get involved. The world has become de-sensitized due to violent video games, movies, and other communications. War and hatred are there for the taking. There is a lack of love in the world. Is it any wonder these things happen? It's a sad thing. But Jesus loved the shooter, and if he had just reached out for Him, he would have found peace in the midst of the storm. But he allowed the evil one to take over his mind. Please know that Jesus and God and satan are real. satan doesn't want you to know the truth. He wants you to die without the truth. Jesus is love and mercy. May God break through the unbelief in your heart and give you hope in these troubled times and troubled world.

22. It's not the responsibility of a human being to prove that God is real, because most people only believe in what they can see. God, the creator of everything will deal with the unbelievers. For those that do believe in God, I know it's hard to understand how a person could even argue the fact that there is a higher power, but that's just the way it is. Like one of readers stated, we all have free will, choices, we decide in what we want to believe in, we decide whether or not to go on a murdering spree, smoke drugs, rob banks, etc. So it's all up to us. The sad thing is that there are issues in our environment that's causing people not to function properly, or think cleary, and it's causing a lot of the bad behavior that's occurring in our society today and the only answers we get when it's all said and done is that the individual had mental issues. Nevertheless, we're born to live, we live and die, and that's a fact and there's rules and regulations that we must abide by on earth in order to keep from going to jail, and there's rules and regulations that we must abide by on earth in order to keep from going to hell! I'M A BELIEVER!!!

23. The age old question comes to light again. Where is God when these horrific events happened? I think that the agnostics and the athiests are cowards for only asking the question when they can blame Him for things. I am certain none would actually bow their knee and ask God to show Himself to them if He were really real. I think they would worry He actually might answer. God will NEVER go anywhere uninvited. Our hearts go out to all of you at VT. God grant you peace in your time of trouble.

24. I find science as having been described as "Cold Hard Facts" an interesting statement. What we can see, smell, taste, and hear among other trial and error things related to physical science could be safely referred to as "cold hard facts." However, much of science today is not based upon fact. All science begins (like any religion) with a belief system. Science is based upon assumption. To say that evolution is science is incorrect because it is not based upon "cold hard facts" but rather a system of assumptions and beliefs. It is what scientists call theory. It takes faith to believe in evolution as well as God. Also, interesting is that the Bible was written (believe it or not) with a lot of "cold hard facts." It is called historical evidence. Most of the New Testament was written by eyewitness accounts of those who knew Jesus while He lived on earth. Other writers in the New Testament interviewed eyewitnesses who knew Jesus personally all within about 50 years of His death and resurrection. Ancient historians who were not authors of the Bible, wrote about Jesus as well. Josephus, Tacitus, and Pliny the Younger are several of such individuals. There are also about 24,000 copies of the New Testament writings. There are only a little over 630 copies of Homer's Illiad and Odyssey. I also marvel that the Bible has 66 books with over 40 authors (Old & New Testament)many from different time periods, cultures, and languages. Yet, it is so consistent in its message and its main topic: God. I guess, it's much easier for me to believe in the historical evidence as well as the many archeological finds concerning the life of Christ than it is to believe in what some today refer to as science.

25. I will pray for all of you that can not see what this is really all about. I feel so sorry for you because you don't understand how wide, deep and high the Love of God really is. He doesn't hate any of us he just gave us the freedom of choice to choose or reject him. He also gave us the freedom to choose hate instead of love. For those of you that want to believe they came from a big bang, sludge, cavemen or monkeys..... Well let's just say that's palin old insulting to my intelligence. There is only one of us and each one of us is different. Butterflies, Birds, babies, flowers, trees, oceans, fish etc. all created for our pleasure, to enjoy and to take care of. Hatred, senseless killings, materialism, capitalism, racism etc. , all by-products of the freedom of choice we have. God doesn't make these things happen, we do.
I will pray that you'll open your hearts and let him in. Stop the hate and critizism right here and now and pray for the families that are left behind. For those of you that don't want to pray, maybe you could start a fund for them or help out some other way.

27. The one perspective that I never see is what if Jesus intended for this to happen? As we all know, God is inscrutable, and we could never possibly divine his intentions. With that in mind, why do we automatically assume that this is a tragedy? With the omnipotent touch of the almighty, how do we know this killing isn't exactly what God intended to happen?
Aren't we being arrogant to believe we can divine the Almighty's will through assuming that this was a tragedy that shouldn't have happened?

28. I guess some people stop believing in God sometime in their life -- they've asked so much from God and got nothing. I'm not against anything, everyone has its own opinions/beliefs, etc...

29.
Well said Jan,
And as for Mr. Science hard facts , I invite you to gimme some hard scientific facts please about the origins of the Universe.
On second thoughts, don't bother, cause not even the scientist know , they can't atually prove anything but only dress up their theories as proof.

30. How many of these people are there today? These people, fooled by atheism, believe and try to demonstrate that it's scientific to think that everything is free of direction and order,'' he said.
"With the sacred Scripture, the Lord awakens the reason that sleeps and tells us: In the beginning, there was the creative word. In the beginning, the creative word -- this word that created everything and created this intelligent project that is the cosmos -- is also love
