You don't hit the gravel, the Gravel hits you. That's what Senator Gravel did last night. He let them have it. It's amazing what a politician can do if he doesn't care about winning.
Everyone was entertained. And of course, immediately the press labeled him a "radical." Yes, what a radical idea to be against needless wars! Hope a radical like that never gets in the White House. In order to be responsible enough to hold the office, you have to realize that war rocks and you should threaten most of your enemies with it.
Both Chris Matthews and Andrea Mitchell called him a radical (to be fair Mitchell much more so than Matthews). I don't agree with everything Senator Gravel said last night. I think we do have enemies. I'm just in favor of fighting them the smart way rather than the Bush way. But saying that we shouldn't nuke anybody is the least radical idea I have ever heard.
Shouldn't the reverse be true? Isn't considering an attack against a sovereign country that didn't attack you radical? Isn't considering the use of nuclear weapons against that country beyond radical?
What George W. Bush has done is far more radical than anything Senator Gravel said last night. I love having someone who doesn't care about conventional politics in the race. They're not always right, but from time to time, they do tell the greatest truths.

1. Gravel was the one who put the Pentagon Papers into the public record so he is not afraid to work towards ending wars, what a radical. I thought he was dead until he announced his intention to run a few months ago.

2. it sure felt funny watching the MSNBC gasbags sitting around and painting a rosy picture of Hillary. Hillary! why? because she said "retalitate!" and they can all agree that "retaliate" is a good thing.
talking about not using nukes is crazy. I need a drink.

3. Edwards supposedly did not raise his hand when asked about a global war on terror, that would actually be an interesting story, you know that a global war on terror might not actually exist. We have a lot of military people here in Alaska, I hope the terrorists don't follow them here when they leave.

4. Gravel was always passionate, although I did not agree with some of the things he said, but it was often refreshing and made for some fun TV.

5. While I don't agree with everything the Senator said (on dealing with the energy crisis and the use of nuclear power), he was passionate and sure made for some fun TV.

7. If Saddam had not attacked Kuwait, we would not have attacked him, in 1991 or 2003. If Osama had not attacked us in 2001, no president would have had the political capitol to attack Iraq in 2003. You see there are consequences for attacking the most powerful nation on Earth, even for holier-than-thou Muslims. So keep it up, and see what you get.

8. How about Ramsey Clark as Gravel's running mate? This combination would provide the voters with an unquestionable "unbalanced" ticket.

9. WE're in a pickle. If we stay it we have deferred victory. Thus, staying admits current defeat.
If we leave, we are showing the terrorists that the American dragon needs to slink off for a long nap.
If we stay and continue to fight fire with fire our enemies will at least RESPECT us and understand that we have convictions, too, and are willing to lay down our lives for them.
If we go, we are saving our troops yet endangering (more than they are already?!)the populace. It will also bring us very very bad PR. Fanatics will be pleased that they got the better of us. Furthermore, it will encourage them to prod the sleeping dragon again and again (on our turf or elsewhere)until they've taken the fire out of him/her.
How many more years will it take for us to devise new strategies, implement them, achieve them? I believe it will be the same ole cat and mouse story. But I have a plan. Why don't we hire one of the insurgents/fanatics/terrorists to give us some fresh new perspective and advise on how to go about things..
