1. I have noticed the media has recently been chanting about how congress sent the white house the war funding bill that Bush vetoed "four years to the day from Bush's "Mission Accomplished" speech on an aircraft carrier".
While this attempt at irony is shallow at best, the really sad part is how the media seemed so impressed by it; they breathlessly reported that factoid over and over and over.
Of course in general, baby boomers are famous for their love of irony. Indeed, they never seem to tire of it. However it does get old after awhile.
Has anyone else noticed this? If so, what are your thoughts regarding it?

2. Hey Ken. Everything gets "old" sometime, encluding
the present corrupt Bushit administration. Don't know if you're older/younger than the boomers you
refer to which could explain your concerns.

3. A bit younger. I notice this sort of thing because since the 90's, the boomers have been running things, and as a group, they have social notions & mannerisms peculiar to their generation.
Because of their numbers and influence, they (naturally I suppose) have for a long time imposed them on society (i.e., the rest of us), and recently especially, it has gotten old.
I look forward to Obama (barely a boomer) giving old Hillary (the definitive boomer type) a really good run for her money.
The Clintons are probably pushing 60, and McCain is 70, and the rest of the presidential hopefuls (both D & R) are in between. I like the fact that Obama is quite a bit younger than the rest of the (boomer) presidential candidate pack.

4. I should add that I realize that generalizations are just that. Certainly not ALL baby boomers have the sense of irony for which the general group is famous.
Generally of course, one should take care not to paint with too braod a brush. However since this is quite a narrow and not too consequential topic, i.e., the facination with irony and its employment in newsreporting, I think it is Ok to generalize a bit.
The larger point is one of the difference between boomers and other generational groups. Obviously generational differences always play a role in politics, and my point is I think they will probably have a notable effect on the contest between Obama and Hillary or - since he is younger than the others - whomever else he goes up against.
