Cavemen -- they're not just for Geico commercials anymore. Three Republican presidential candidates raised their hands when asked if there was any of them who didn't believe in evolution (Senator Sam Brownback, Governor Mike Huckabee and Rep. Tom Tancredo). The President of the United States of America is supposed to be the leader of the free world. This is embarrassing.
How can we ask anyone to follow us if our leader is a complete dolt who doesn't even understand rudimentary science? I know what you're thinking. But let's focus on the candidates for now.
These Republican candidates claim they just flat out don't believe in evolution, the very basis for all of biology. That's just nuts. Evolution is happening right now. We have it documented. Some species change characteristics in front of our eyes over time. There is the famous instance of the moths and butterflies changing from white to black over a couple of generations to adjust to the pollution in the air. Forget the past for a minute, do they also not believe that fact? Did those species change because God sprinkled magic dust on them?
It is painfully embarrassing to have people this uneducated running for the highest office in the land (my guess is that they don't actually believe this, but it might be even more embarrassing that they are pretending to be that uneducated).
Do we have to debate this? Do I have to prove to you that we are made of atoms and molecules? Do you know what DNA is? Do you understand English? How can I communicate to you if you don't understand, or agree to, the most fundamental facts? If these candidates reject elementary science, what's next -- math?
Will they ask in the next Republican debate, "Show of hands, who believes that 2+2=4?" Or how about other scientific principles. Do these blockheads also question the theory of gravity? Only one way to find out.
Of course, they can prove the theory of evolution right by testing out the theory of gravity.

31. Pboyfloyd,
Everything has to do with order because thats how my brain works. Yes, it has to do with perspective, but one's perspective could obviously be incorrect.
And skies have order, and mountain ranges. The stars. Up. Stay. The mountains. Down. Stay. Order.
Yay!

32. @ Michelle. (comment 31)
That's perfect Michelle. You should have no problem even just imagining that science is exactly the same thing. Naturalists went out and are going out looking for order.
They found it Michelle, it is called Evolution by Natural Selection.
Aaron (comment 26) said, "Finally, evolution is by no means the "basis for all biology.."
But of course all scientists weren't out categorizing(ordering) all the plants, birds, and animals before proceding to 'the next step' biology, genetics.... SO WHAT?
Just 'cos some guys stayed at home and and 'did' science through a microscope and in greenhouses etc. doesn't make their contribution to the overarching fact of evolution lesser.
If those other sciences had pointed away from evolution being a fact... simple... no evolution, right Michelle?
But I'm not talking just about biology, Michelle, I'm talking about ALL science. All science points towards evolution if it has anything to 'say' about evolution at all.
Creationists are denying reality. Go ahead and believe that you will live forever with God, but in the mean-time, don't deny reality.
The only 'tool' that Creationists have is word-play, semantics, the definition of 'theory and 'reason' etc. but reality-based people have everything that we can see and touch and examine around us. Amen(for the faith-based), AND SO SAY ALL OF US(reality-based people)

33. Yeah, but pboyfloyd,
In a way evo does seem believable, but what about the big bang. What was there before it? If nothing, how did it create something. Like I said before, zero times zero is always zero as far as I know. If the big bang can achieve the impossible, we must worship it. Oh great Big Bang. Thou art not only big but thou art great. Without you we would be a pool of nothingness, great Big Bang. Oh great Big Bang, there is no bang like you. You created everything, by mistake. Oh great Big Bang. Do something again.
That would be the intro prayer. Of course we could invent others.

34. When it speaks of God making man from the dust of the earth don't you suppose he made man from the atoms and moleclues. and how about the fact that he cloned eve from one of Adams Ribs. do you suppose that God has no knowledge of how to evolve species.

35. ah the pretty butterflies. how nice they look when they were glued to the tree for the picture but it to was done all in reason. what reason was that? the reason was that just as now there was not any proof of macular evo and this was there way of proving that there was. Now the good scientist did not lie in their mind becuase, they truly belive in a force which INVISABLE. they know that this froce is ALL POWERFULL becuase it created everything. they know that the force is is OMNIPRESENT becuase it is everywhere.they also belive that it is SUPER-NATURE meaning that it is above the laws of nature becuase it has created nature. who made evo nobody they say evo is SELFEXISTING. and lastly they belive that evo is EVERLASTING. SOUNDS LIKE A RELIGION TOO ME.

36. Folks, this is a joke. I cannot believe that anyone disagrees with the Bible! THE BIBLE! But no, instead of listening to the book of God Himself, you are reading out of Darwin's Origin of Species! What's next, you pick up Harry Potter and say we can fly on brooms also because they do it in Harry Potter?
The Bible is correct, in both its figurative and literal interpretation. The book of genesis is a fact. God himself says so. While I respect scientists and the long hours of schooling they put in and all the fields of information that they are experts in of which I know nothing about, the one thing I do know is that you anything that contradicts the Bible is wrong! It has to be! For the Bible is the word of God himself, and God is never wrong!
God created everything we see today in 6 days. Forget the fact that the first few days could not be defined as days because the Earth wasn't made, God says they were days to they were days! What the Bible says supersedes any science. The earth DOES NOT revolve around the moon! We see that it is in fact the sun that is moving when Joshua makes his miracle of stopping it. Thus, it is obvious that we are in fact stationary, with the sun revolving around us.
It is that simple my friends. Have faith in the Bible, it will steer you the right way. Science that says otherwise is just satan's attempts to draw you away from our lord Jesus Christ.

37. Just got done reading thirty or so comments on this ongoing discussion of evolution v creation. From what I've read so far, the evolution camp appears to be the more fanatical of the two groups. Michelle's and Aaron's come out to be the more reasoned, in contrast to the scientific pboyfloyd's group's ad hominems and non sequiturs. Are we witnessing the evolution of the Ayatollahs of Evolution?!
Flo at 7:08AM on Jun 7th 2007
38. Flo, I hope you are joking, just as the post before you, from Fol E, seems to be (Fol E seems to mean Folly, or the lack of reason). Anyway, Flo, Michelle said at an earlier point that there is no scientific evidence disclaiming ANYTHING in the Bible. That is simply wrong, and I'm not sure how you can say that is a reasoned statement. Go to your local museum and check out the dinosaur bones that are millions of years old, proving wrong the Bible's assertion that the earth is 6,000 years old.
Flo, just because you don't understand the science of some posters' statements doesn't make it fanatical. I am currently getting my pHD in biology, and let me tell you that a lot of the scientific arguments people like pboyfloyd have used is pretty good for a person not in the scientific community. We will have to rely on people like pboyfloyd to keep this country afloat. Because with the continued growth of India and China, the US will have to fight for its position as leader of the world's economy. And we will lose that fight if we continue to allow faith to hold back science.

39. I do have a question. Has anyone found a bone with a date on it
suggesting when it was formed? If not how do we "Know" its age? If a
device is used to measure the bone to determine the age then where
did the baseline come from? Was the baseline for measurment
"logicaly" conceived to represent our belief that the bone had to be
of a certain age for us to be right? If I believe that my guess is a fact but do not have a base of evidience to support it
and then look to prove the guess/fact by making a
"logical" guess/fact and now the guess/fact represents a baseline that I would now call a FACT becuase its makes my guess/fact work would that not be circular reasoning?
