A commentator has a beef with the contestants on 'American Idol' -- they're obese, and that may hurt the kids of American.
The observation that some of the contestants were over weight on is not absurd: some obviously were. But, is her alarm, well, alarmist? Or does she have a point?

62. Is this women fucking stupid?

63. Frankly, I shut off the video before it ended. I'm an overweight woman. I've been big since childhood. I've never been a tax on the health care system, I graduated from college with a Bachelor's degree, I've been gainfully employed since I was a teenager, I've never impinged on anyone else's life as a result of the extra pounds I carry. While I did face the expected childhood name-calling, I never decided to go to my school with an Uzi and blow anyone away as a result. I usually stay out of discussions of this type, but this caught my eye because the entertainment industry can have adult women who weigh less than 100 lbs, music personalities who run with gang-like entourages and carry weapons, and sports stars who brag about having multiple sexual partners during the same time period, but God forbid a chubby chick gets up and sings in front of impressionable children? Wow, I'm sure glad there's nothing more serious going on in the world to worry about.

64. I cannot believe that this how now become a weight topic!! ARE U KIDDING ME?? Do you think that the thousands of little girls who voted for Jordan felt the need to go and binge on a Cheeseburger & Fries afterward. JORDAN IS BEAUTIFUL, TALENTED, AND 17 FRIGGIN YRS OLD...she needs not worry about her sex appeal to the audience. Stop trying to dramatize everything and making weight an issue since it clearly isn't. People like you really piss me off!!

65. It's a fact that we have a serious weight problem in America. It's the food that we weat. Many foods in the restaurants have been fattened for better tastes. The McDonald's corporation have announced their intention to remove the tran fat.
I think approx. 65 perecent of Americans are considered as obese. Sixty-five percent! Too many Americans have health problem today and the pharmacical companies are "fattening" their pockets. Don't make them rich.

66. To the young lady commentator who brought up this subject: Think about it - if you ever get the maturity to raise a daughter yourself would you rather she be a skinny, superficial Paris Hilton and pals or a beautiful, grounded and talented Jordin Sparks? Seems to me the problem is not too many overweight contestants on AI but too many foolish, childish pundits on TV!!! Grow up.

67. I am sorry that someone with a narrow minded and biased view is in a position to influence the thinking of people. Obviously looking at her picture, she is a person who may not have walked on both side of the track and doesn't have a clue about the reality of what is really going on. Attitudes like hers is why we have so many kids and adults suffering with severe eating disordres in this country.
redtab at 12:40PM on May 25th 2007
68. Jordin is HEALTHY, not overweight!!!! She looks great and can sing her A$$ off!! I think it shows our children that it doesn't matter what you look like, if you have a dream and you want it, you CAN acheive it. I think Jordin is a wonderful human and that is all that matters.

69. are you kidding me??? so this little blonde thing that probably doesn't eat says that this girl is overweight??? she clearly ISN'T. she's a normal 17 year old girl and i think she is just beautiful. what a bitch.
meg at 1:26AM on May 26th 2007
70. "Blondie"(natural of course),comes across as incredibly narrow minded.I kindof agree w/ her about Jordan being at a higher risk for diabetes and whatnot, but that doesn't mean that she shouldn't have won.Perhaps she's envious of Jordan's "god given" assets! ;-)

72. HEY AMERICA, HALF THE WORLD IS OVERWEIGHT. NOT GOOD, BUT IF WE WANT TO BE THAT WAY, BUZZ THE HELL OFF. WHERE DOES SHE COME OFF WITH THIS. THE ONLY PEOPLE A SIZE 4 OUR IN HOLLYWOOD, AND IF MOST OF THEM TURN SIDEWAYS, AND STICK OUT THEIR TONGUE, THEY WILL LOOK LIKE A ZIPPER. GET OVER IT. THE KIDS GROWING UP TODAY, CAN DO NOTHING RIGHT, NO SODA, SOY NO FOOD, SOY. STOP THE MADNESS. WERE NOT MOVIE STARS, WERE NORMAL FOLKS.
WHO THE HELL IS SHE at 3:54PM on May 25th 2007
73. This is ridiculous! That lady is so... ugh. Saying that Jordin is not normal. I mean come on. To me, Jordin is like the perfect size. She is not to large or too small. She is healthy. At her height... any skinnier and she would look sickly or something. That lady needs to get off whatever drugs she is on and change her glasses perscription because she is way off. Besides, America doesn't want an idol who is like 98 pounds. We want to idolize someone who is more like us... and trust me I have way more in common with Jordin then I do with a 98 pound Nicole Richie.

74. Talking Head? Sounds like Talking Ass to me
me at 1:42PM on May 25th 2007
75. Jordin is a perfectly healthy and beautiful young lady. Don't go messing with her like past idols. Just like Taylor, the first thing they wanna do is fit them in some imaginary 'Idol' mold! What's wrong with these people!
When I was young, I missed out on how beautiful I was because I couldn't be as skinny as other girls. I ran track, had very low body fat ratio, but wasn't happy in my size 9 jeans.
I look back at those pictures and I had a GREAT body! I never got a chance to feel confident in my looks and enjoy some self esteem in my youth because SOMEBODY told me I should be wearing a size TWO!!!!
Leave the girl alone! Sheesh!
As men often say, bone is for the dog, MEAT is for the MAN! LOL
