I can only imagine how difficult it must be for a Republican to explain, during a debate, why he is Pro-Choice. While Giuliani is doing just that he is interrupted several times by "lightning" bolts messing with the audio equipment. Although I agree with his current position, I think at that exact moment he should have changed his mind.
He could have locked up the Christian vote right there. "Hey Honey, did you see God talk to Rudy during the debates, helping him answer questions?"
Well if Giuliani wasn't going to capitalize on the Christian vote, then Mike Huckabee was there to scoop it up with this response to the Creationism question that came up last month.
Naturally, it's safe to include a Ron Paul highlight reel, considering the Ron Paul Tag leading Tag Series XIV, and pulling away. C'mon HST fans, pony up.
1. Nice video. Giuliani is right, in a pluralistic society, our leaders have no business pushing the agenda of their church. Until George Bush came along, no President had trouble doing this, so its not impossible. Bush has been the unfortunate exception, not the rule. Its nice to see a Republican who understands the secularism of our Constitution.
I don't want to talk about Ron Paul a lot today, because I'm exhausted from yesterday's extensive discussion. He's right on about the war and the oil company subsidies - but my take is instead of subsidies, we should have grabbed their windfall profits and used them to develop alternative energy. After yesterday, I can understand the frustration of people who have achieved success through a lot of talent and hard work who then pay large taxes. But, its possible to award merit without such a disparity between the haves and have nots.
Further, I don't think any society is going to want to emulate an America where only the strong survive, and that's where Paul stands. Many of the have-nots work two jobs to stay afloat, they just didn't get a huge IQ gift at birth. In a country with our wealth, we need to have free secular education through a four year college degree and national healthcare - we are all in this together.
I can imagine Dr. Paul on an airplane and the flight attendant calls out in his first class area of the plane: "There is a medical emergency in coach." Dr. Paul goes back to coach, but before he helps the heart attack victim, he first has some questions. "Do you have health insurance, if so which kind, because I don't accept Medicare, it doesn't pay enough." After the victim's wife pleads for help and states yes, he has full employment related insurance, Dr. Paul then asks for proof and confirmation that the insurance company doesn't require pre-authorization. The wife frantically answers no, as her husband's breath becomes more labored. BUT, Doctor Paul has one more question. He turns to the flight attendant: " Are we over international waters, because I don't want my help to be subject to US taxes." The flight attendant runs and calls the pilot, and confirms that yes, they are over international waters. Dr. Paul grumbles: "I normally won't help unless the co-pay is collected up front." The wife desperately reaches into her purse and throws $60 at Paul. At that point Dr. Paul changes from businessman to doctor and turns to the victim - he's already dead.
I think the debates show a conservative movement in crisis, which is why I enjoyed the link to the Democrats. Real solutions for real problems, absent either the ridiculous evangelicanlism of some of the other Republicans or Paul's cold view of human relations. It was so refeshing to watch Hillary and Barack talk some common sense. Hillary was part of a balanced budget and surplus - and wisely stated you do it the old fashioned way: reduce spending (immediately by ending the war) and you increase revenue. Barack and Edwards basically stand for these basic common sense principles. Although Hillary by far has the most experience and is the only person who could walk in the Oval Office today and immediately start work - she's the only one that has the experience; all three prime Democratic contenders are on the right track - a country doesn't work unless it works for everyone.
4. NOW EVEN GUILIANI CRITICIZES BU$H, THE MAN HE WAS SO HAPPY WAS PRESIDENT WHEN 9-11 HIT???? WHY THE HELL DID RUDY DO SOMETHING ABOUT PROTECTING THE WTC FROM TERRORISTS WHEN THEY HAD ALREADY BEEN TARGETS YEARS BEFORE. HE IGNORED TERRORISTS JUST LIKE THE REPIG CONTROLLED CONGRESS OF 1994 WHO WAS MORE INTERESTED IN CLINTON'S SEX LIFE THAN THE LIVES OF IT'S CITIZENS AND STOPPING BIN LADEN WHO WAS A FAMILY FRIEND OF THE BU$H CLAN. THIS WHOLE BUNCH OF SLIME COATED HYPOCRITES SUCK BIG TIME. GET RID OF ALL OF THE REPIGS FROM FEDERAL OFFICE AND CLEAN OUT THE GARBAGE IN THE WHITE HOUSE AND THE SUPREME COURT.
5. The lightning incident was a sign from God. Note that it happened just at the time this Guliani started talking about taking the life of an unborn baby. He will never get the republican nomination and in the case the GOP commits the mistake of nominating this ugly, bald, pro-death catholic, catholics are going to vote for Hillary in a general election.
6. Everybody criticizes Bush now. When he took the initiative of taking that evil dictator out of Iraq, bomb the hell out of terrorists in Afghanistan and placing God above everything else, everybody was with him. I think Bush would beat anybody again if he could run again.
9. Hey Ann in comment #4. I suppose we should have just put you in the White House to clear up everything right? I am sure with your stellar grammar and spelling that I see in your post that you could clean up education too!
10. Republicans are missing a great opportunity to adopt the "Fair Tax" as a key ingredient in their platform. Only Fred Thompson has come out saying the tax code needs to be rewritten and even that is short of an endorsement for the "Fair Tax".
11. Abortion is not a religious opinion. Killing is not accepted as anything desirable from a religious or secular point of view. Killing something that has not attacked you, threatened your family or country is unacceptable. It is simple as that. Our country prides itself on protecting those that can't protect themselves. I can't think of anything less able to protect itself than an unborn fetus.
12. Can anything that is not already a human become a human? God knows the answer, why don't you? Pride? Lust? Hard heart? Killing a defenceless human so you can live as you wish will always be an evil that will always be wrong in Gods eyes. Lawful or not. It's is our country too, so let us vote for the morality that we who HAVE children would want our children to live in.
13. I think what Giulaini said is pretty right on. Separation of church and state should be how this country goes. We vote for these politicians to make sure the government properly uses tax money and keep the country safe from outside dangers. We don't vote on them to become President/Minister of the country. If we have a president who wants to impose his religious beliefs on all us...well that makes us no better then other countries that force religion like Iran or a Taliban Afghanistan etc. Keep the religion out of politics and worry about stuff that effects us all. As far as abortion goes...Keep your nose out of other people business. If your pro-life then don't get an abortion. If your Pro-choice then choose to get one. But stay out of each other business.
14. Hey ANN you Moron. Look at the trail of deaths from the Clinton administration and tell me how good he was! That is the PIG you refer to. That pig was feeding his face at a golf buffet and yelled at his advisors to "WAIT" regarding the 20 minute window they presented him with to take out Bin Laden! He did NOTHING about so many terrorist attacks while he was in office, including the attack on the USS COLE. He reduced the size of our military by 55%. Everyone knows that the best way to keep peace is to prepare for war. You cant fight with no forces. You should watch over and over and over the video's and news reports from 9-11. Who cares whether Iraq was directly responsible? You KNOW they trained these devils, so you must destroy them all. When the muslim society begins to care about our innocent civilians, then we care about about theirs, NOT A MINUTE SOONER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
15. When will it seem fit for a woman and/or minority to hold the highest political office in our free land....Does it surprise anyone that England and India two political polar opposites, have granted women this right and responsibility?
Mo Rocca appears on a bunch of shows, including CBS News Sunday Morning (with the indescribably wonderful Charles Osgood), The Tonight Show on NBC, and NPR's Wait Wait... Don't Tell Me! He's a sometime judge on Iron Chef and was featured on Telemundo's Amore Descarado. Last year he starred on Broadway in the 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. His expose "All the President's Pets" was published by Crown in 2004.
