I'm not a guy who is very fond of protests. I'm also not fond of giving up a part of my Sunday. But I am going to do both of those things for the foreseeable future because I have had enough. When Bush commuted Scooter Libby's sentence it was the straw that broke the camel's back.
I am tired of politician's being above the law. I am tired of this administration breaking every conceivable law and endlessly violating the constitution. I am also tired of the ineffectual opposition party that never holds them to account.
So, we are going to try democracy the old fashioned way. We are going to get together and try to make our voices heard by our government. We will be doing protests every Sunday at 12Noon to 1PM. Just one hour every Sunday, starting this Sunday. All across the country, with one simple message: Enough!
If you'd like to join us, you can either come to the one Wes Clark, Jr. and I will be attending in LA or simply pick a spot in your hometown and show up with a sign or t-shirt. Wes explains the protest a little more in his Daily Kos diaries, where people are beginning to organize local get togethers or you can read more about it on Huffington Post or The Young Turks.
We want this to be low key and very open to all participants. We hope to see you there.

1. At last someone is trying to do something and I am in agreement with the effort.
M. R. Stone at 9:25PM on Jul 7th 2007
2. And just what government would you like to emulate? I disagree with the current administration also, but I would never be so treasonous as to actually demonstrate against it in such a secretive and selective manner. Unless of course you can find a government that is FREE and has the right to demonstrate without reprisal. I sure can't think of any other one. Go get a job with the government in a political position that will enable you to make changes based on a mojority of votes. The extremists will be glad to know you dislike your country. You then become an enabler.
Kathy at 9:40PM on Jul 7th 2007
3. p.s. Have you ever heard of The John Birch Society? Sounds just like your trash except it was a communist intruder then.
Kathy at 9:45PM on Jul 7th 2007
4. Oh my goodness! Kathy appears to be upset. Criticize this government, and suddenly you are "unpatriotic" an even a "traitor." Seems to me that if there is an extremist anywhere in this soup, it is those who follow whatever the government tell them to do, extremely well.
By the way, the government itself is not the problem, it is those who "own" the government and, under this administration, thanks to blind followers like Kathy, it is certainly not "the people."

5. I think that the 'scooting of scooter' was wrong but not illegal.I believe it is called the 'executive privilidge'? I also believe that this is not the first administration in the last 4 terms to do something so obviously wrong. I also think your a dork if you protest on a sunday, go to church.Or at least try protesting on a day when it actually matters like, oh my, a work day from say monday, tuesday, wednesday, thursday, or even friday. Take an hour out of all those days so you make an even bigger point to your protest. Then, then I would think that you were really distressed about the situation, beware the next president as they will do the same. I don't know where you got your education on our Republic but one of the greatest failures of a citizen is to believe that we are a Democracy. Our government mimics more the Roman Republic then any aspect of the failed Athenian democracy, which saddly lost its ebb to the Spartan spear. 'the Peloponnesian War circa 404 before christ'

6. You people who complaine about our present government, try doing that in places like IRAN, IRAC, Cuba, China. Say one thing against their government and you are branded a criminal with long prison sentence.
Go ahead and say ENOUGH, all you want, you won't even get noticed by our government. They don't care what you have to say. What you have to say won't matter to anyone but yourself.
To change anything about this country takes teamwork to get out the vote. If you are bored enough to complaine about our government, thank the soldiers who died to give you that right and all the diabled veterans in this country who are suffering with their damaged bodies, gives you the right to demonstrate against our country. So go ahead and demonstrate all you want. Most people will be busy with their lives won't give a rats rearend what you have to say. I sure don't.

7. The Presidents action was not " above the law". He was within his legal right to commute Scooter Libby's stupidly excessive sentence. Remember good old Bill Clinton pardoning like 400 people on his last day in office, including a guy who was on the lam at the time? FOUR HUNDRED!!!! How morally upright of him. Funny how libs only get upset when a conservative president does what they do themselves . For my money, jailing people like Scooter Libby and Martha Stewart, while filthy pedophiles, murderers, gang members, rapists and drug dealers go free, is political pandering and a miscarriage of justice. It's a waste of a good jail cell. Maybe a small symbolic sentence for lying could be appropriate in such cases, which is what they are supposedly "guilty" of..lying, not murder or treason. This President has long ago learned that NOTHING he does will meet with liberal approval, so he is going about the business of doing what he sees as the right thing for the country, without waiting for the approval from liberals which will never arrive. Valerie Plame was not an undercover agent. If she wanted to be covert, it was not too intelligent to become an ambassador's wife, was it...did she imagine such a position was "good cover"? In fact, it's pretty high profile. As for you guys, you are going to protest...WHAT? The fact that you hate the President? This sounds very much like an adult tantrum. Liberal carping and sniping during the Bush presidency has not hurt the President, but it HAS seriously damaged the country and our ability to deal with our enemies. Treason..its an old fashioned word, maybe you should look it up.

8. All I can do is sit here and laugh, When will the American public wake up and understand. Its not Democrat or Republican, its taxpayer -V- government
Ronald Regan, George Bush, Bill Clinton, GW Junior taxes keep going up,up,up. They were absolutly no different,
My fellow taxpayers united we stand divided as democrats or repbulican we just keep paying more and getting less.
paul at 11:03PM on Jul 7th 2007
9. Really LJ? I thought the Republican party was supposed to be the party of law and order, tough sentences, etc. I guess Republicans apparently have one rule for themselves, and another for everyone else. Libby was prosecuted by a Repulican and convicted by a Republican judge.
As to Cenk's idea, it is a good one. Although we are much better off getting good Democrats elected to public office as they can do more.

10. A big problem is that so many think that the internet is a forum for action. It is NOT. People talk and vent but people are doing nothing about the awful path backwards that our nation has taken under the Bush Administration. My God, we just had the Supreme Court reverse the forward progress of the Civil Rights movement because two privileged kids said they were being discriminated against because they could not get into a school they wanted to attend. I guess they had no options like the underprivileged and poverty-yoked that prompted a just government to balance opportunities past the line of elite? We should be outraged. We should have been hitting the streets for years before now over that secret energy conference (by the way, I saw George Bush's name on the board of directors for Valero energy in the early 90s. Can't find his name anywhere now, but you sure see Valero everywhere -- and guess what, they are changing their name to NuStar. Could this be just another cloak to hide the trail? Something like Entergy?) Don't you think Jeff Skilling and Ken Lay were at that secret Washington conference that "the White House" still hides and dodges from the inquiries? Wonder why gas costs over $3 a gallon? When do you think we will EVER see our fuel supply changed to a proven combustible in SALT WATER??? What do you want to bet the energy industry controlling gas tries to suppress the technology so they can continue to rape the people who are not on their payroll? We must rise up. Kathy bears the clothes of the emperor in her warning, "The extremists will be glad to know you dislike your country." If we hadn't attacked the country of Iraq rather than addressing the real group of 50 or so gang members who got their way after many failed attempts to make a name for themselves and their cause. Things are going just the way they may have wanted because we have a trigger-happy bully fool in the driver seat! Impeach Cheney and please vote someone in the office who will pull out the stops and absolutely deny profiteering by George Bush and Cheney at the expense of the people of this nation and the blood of vibrant youths who never expected that as reservists who would be called to man the front lines in a misguided and preemptive attack pushed by this administration. Bush was bent on going against Hussein to bring revenge to this one man and his family for insulting father Bush with a door matt of George H Bush's face at every Iraqi hotel. Petty stupid idiots they are, and we are fighting and dying for this? What would you do and how would you react if Hussein had chosen to send the waves of Shock and Awe in YOUR backyard? No wonder there are insurgents! Any fool could have seen it coming. I did, and I'm a 53 year old grandmother who told visitors from the UK in 2000 I would not vote for Bush because he's itching to attack Iraq. Go figure. How could we as a nation have been so blind as to put this man in office??? We must not be satisfied blogging. We must bear our signs and our colors and go to the polls (hoping they are not rigged which, with the corruption so blatant, might make us wonder about the reliability and truth of our vote. So perhaps it is that we have given up. Perhaps we think it is futile. Hurrah for straws that break the camels back. In this day, we have a much greater weight of straws that have accumulated to finally prompt some action! YES! ENOUGH! Put it on your car window on your way to church! Hopefully someone will wonder just what is going on.

11. Oh puh-LEASE.
The president pardons ONE guy, and you liberals bitch? Yet Clinton pardoned HOW MANY? And do you lame-minded libs mention THAT? Nope.
And on the Supreme Court ruling on use of race in school admissions...... Why are you libs so racist against WHITE PEOPLE???? Thank goodness for the common sense of five of the justices in actually FOLLOWING the Constitution. If you TRULY stood for equality, you'd drop the whole "diversity" scam, and start judging people by THEIR ACTIONS, not the color of their skin. Hypocrites. Pull your bigoted, racist heads out of your tight liberal arses. Better yet, pray the miracles of stem cell research allow you to grow a new brain that actually works.

12. Dear Lord,
"Young Turks" my veteran butt. Gee guys, I fought in the first Iraq war (lessee, I think it was called Desert Storm) where we kicked Saddams ugly rump outta Kuwait. My oh my, but we sure gobbled up all that Kuwaity oil there didn't we? Just like now, you folks are so blinded by hate that common sense and logic ping off your propeller beanie caps. I'm sorry that Teresa is a grandma, it most likely means she's indoctrinated other younguns with her ignorance.
Here's the skinny kids. It ain't about blood for oil, never was and if you can't get that thru your pink little foreheads do us all a favor and go build houses with the peanut farmer. Maybe that way something good will come of you.
I've got too many brothers in arms dead over the years to let a bunch of yellow beatniks try to cry their way outta the current scrap we're in now. You take the fight to the enemy, or he comes to you in your back yard (911 ring any bells?).
Oh, and Teresa, look up economics 101 sweetheart..China and India now compete with us for all the availible crude out there. There countrys will soon dwarf us in consumption, and when there's only one game in town (cuz tree huggers won't let us drill our own) the price naturally goes up. See, it's called supply and demand, look into it.
Anyway, I've vented my spleen, have at it y'all. Just one last question, I put my money (and body) where my mouth is for this country...how 'bout you?

13. dont forget that a new refinery hasnt been built in the last 30 or so years, mostly becuase hippies cry whenever an oil company tries to build one.
seriously... if you dont like your government, you can change it. its called elections. look into em sometime.
if you dont like your options when you go into a polling booth, you need to take that up with your party, not the representative democracy under which they operate.

14. I don't see what the point is in being mad over Libby's sentence commuting. It wasn't a presidential pardon. He still has it on his records and he's still got a hefty fine to pay.....even by White House standards.
Also, Libby didn't get a case over "leaking" Plame. He got a case for "lying" to a "committee". Lemme point out that Plame was a desk jockey for the CIA and didn't do any covert work, so leaking her name didn't put any REAL agents at risk. He didn't leak her name tho. It's just that the PA had pitched a tent, got nowhere, and wanted to nail somebody for something after all that. The truth is, the whole Plame thing is a political football that detracts from the real things our "gubament" should care about. I'm just as dissaffected with Bush as the next person.....I'm just saying this isn't the turf where that debate should be held.
ricc at 1:29AM on Jul 8th 2007
15. Great idea. I will check to see if there is Sunday hour protest nearby.
Yep Scooter Libby was revolting, and quite different from the normal pardons like Clinton's and Reagan's. He got pardoned for a crime he committed to protect his bosses, Rove, Cheney and and himself. In efect a self-pardon for Bush.
Then there was that Bush/Kennedy let's give the country away amnesty bill. What a con job that was. Thank God enough repubicans and democrats saw through it, realized that there was no benefit at all, only harm, for ordinary Americans, and blew the telephone switchboards.
The lastest, I cannot believe my government is doing this story?
Congresswoman Zoe Loftgren is proposing a bill that will take college financial aid from low income Americans and give it to illegal immigrants, then let the illegals cut in line for citizenship.
No, government, Democratic and Repubican, is living according to its own set of norms, norms that have nothing to do with the real America.
And contrary to some of the posts here, organization for change starts somewhere, even a Sunday hour in the park. Never devalue the benefit of such contacts, or the internet connections that can be so powerful in communicating one and all.
