The far-left in America and Europe has an underlying craziness for which I am deeply thankful. This craziness does have a redeeming quality: it is driven by a certain brave consistency. That keeps it from being merely comic. Even so, it comes to the rescue of conservatives just when things are beginning to look gloomy.
Case in point: Ralph Nader. Just when it seemed that Al Gore might be able to defeat Bush, along came Nader to spoil Gore's picnic. Gore's strategy was to lean just enough to the center to try and win the swing voters. Nader attacked Gore's left flank by accusing him of betraying the working class. Nader stole just enough votes from Gore that the 2000 election was a tie, at which point the Supreme Court came in and settled the toss in favor of Bush.
Now we hear that Cindy Sheehan, who has called George Bush the biggest terrorist in the world, is threatening to challenge Nancy Pelosi for her congressional seat. Sheehan says that if Pelosi doesn't begin impeachment proceedings against Bush very soon, she's going to run. Sheehan doesn't seem to realize that Pelosi is doing what she can to destroy Bush while still trying to look patriotic and "above the fray."
Sheehan is following the logic of her convictions. If America is the source of most of the terrorism in the world, then the War on Terror should be fought against American foreign policy! If Bush is a terrorist, he should be treated like Osama Bin Laden! It should be noted here that if the premises are true, the conclusions are reasonable. In reality the premises are not true. That's what makes Cindy Sheehan and others on the far-left such crackpots. They are like the guy who thinks he's Napoleon and starts planning the conquest of Europe and Russia. If you're Napoleon these may be wonderful projects, but if you're not it's time to haul out the straightjackets.
Ordinarily I'd laugh off Cindy Sheehan's threat to take on Pelosi, but Pelosi represents the San Francisco area and there are just enough kooks in that district who might make Sheehan a serious candidate. I'd like to see Sheehan use some of her trademark bile on Pelosi. It's my favorite kind of brawl: the left vs. the far left. Run, Cindy, run!

3. Rumsfeld could have captured/killed senior members of al qaeda in 2005, but gave up the chance. you don't think he discussed this with bush before hand? now we know what the "War on terrot" is really about. fighting oil rich country for the profits of a few.

4. Note to Dinesh: Nader or no Nader, Al Gore DID win the election of 2000. "Junior" was appointed by 5 partisan Republican members of the Supreme Court at least one of whom, Sandra Day O'Connor, may now regret her role in the fiasco.
As for Cindy Sheehan's threat to run against Nancy Pelosi: if it lights a fire under Nancy and moves her toward intiating impeachment proceedings against "Junior", I say more power to her. I believe that "Junior" is guilty of many crimes including lying us into an unnecessary war, but the one that will really stick is his deliberate and defiant violation of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA). In choosing to wiretap Americans without obtaining warrants from the special FISA court, which allows for emergency wiretapping for a few days without a warrant, "Junior" knowingly and with malice aforethought committed a felony.

5. When I read the Blog Headline I thought Dinesh got his hands on that bad toothpaste going around, but since I had to read to see the logic....I fully agree, hope it ends with em both in straightjackets.I believe Cindy Sheehass is the reason her son Died, Not Bush. He ran off to war just to get away from her and probably killed himself thinking of his return to her nuthouse.

7. Oh my stars. I can't believe we actually agree on something for a change!
Ms. Sheehan is still acting out her grief, I'm afraid. And others are prodding her to be a symbol when she needs to be left alone so that she CAN grieve, privately. As a person who is presently experiencing grief myself, I feel sorry for her and I want to slap those who are holding the poking stick.

8. Sheehan is an idiot looking for a village desperate or hard up enough to take her. Can Congress be considered a village? If she won, it would be the case of replacing one idiot with another.

12. This just in about Iraq:
(from AP)
"The report and denial come as GOP support for the president's war policy erodes and as the Senate prepares to take up a major defense spending bill. Also, the Pentagon is focusing major attention on its upcoming report to Congress about U.S. benchmarks for Iraqi lawmakers aimed at reducing sectarian and insurgent violence.
About six months after the United States began deploying nearly 30,000 additional American forces in a so-called "surge," the Washington Post reports that U.S. officials consider it "unlikely" that Iraqi lawmakers will meet key "benchmarks" aimed at ending sectarian and insurgent attacks.
Republican Sen. Susan Collins of Maine said Monday that GOP lawmakers are questioning Bush's policy in Iraq because of the "tremendous loss of life among our troops" and "the failure of the Iraqi government to pursue the political reforms that are necessary to quell the sectarian violence."
"When you combine the increased sacrifice of our troops and the unwillingness or inability of the Iraqi leaders to act, you see a steady erosion for the president's policy," Collins said.
Ok, so the neocon pundits are avoiding the issues, choosing instead to talk about ANYTHING rather than the unpopular war or the good ol boy (Scooter and co.) club in the WH. This is not surprising from these folks, who aren't exactly in the field of public service.
Personally, I think if Sheehan, an outsider if ever there was one, wants to run, why not? This is America, and the more people throw their hats into the ring, the better. . . She can't be worse than some of those bozos. . .
best,
mw

13. Ah the D'Idiot speaks again. After katrina, Iraq, Libby, Gonzales and slowly bankrupting out the country to foriegn loans, Dinesh still thinks Bushie and Cheney are good people out to protect the ordinary folks of the USA. I am all for the impeachment of these liars...after all, the only thing Clinton did was stain a dress and then lie...but nobody dies/was rendered homeless/bankrupt etc after the piled on lies of the last 6 years.

15. Dinesh. Why are you a bloger on AOL? The threat of Bush/Cheney has brought many people to believe that impeachment is an option. Why are you calling them crackpots?
