Christian Protesters Interrupt Hindu Prayer in the Senate
A story in The Guardian explains that these clown protesters were from Operation Save America/Operation Rescue. They wanted to interrupt the first ever Hindu prayer in the Senate. Harry Reid had invited Rajan Zed to do the traditional morning prayer in the Senate as a way of reaching out to other faiths. And these extremist Christians thought, "God forbid!"
The protesters' point was that Hinduism is not mono-theistic and that the Senate was putting other Gods before their God. Their point is both laughably bad and perfectly sensible at the same time.
I love the idea of competing Gods. Maybe they should have a bowl-off. On the other hand, any athletic competition is clearly going to give the advantage to Ganesha who has about 32 arms. On the other hand (no pun intended), I guess if you really believe in your particular religion, it does say that all the other religions are full of it. You can make a case that these protesting clowns are principled. But I think you can make a better case that none of their religions are right. The God of the Christians didn't forget to put Indians in the Bible and they aren't going to burn in hell for believing in their religion. And Brahma and Shiva are not going to strike down the Christians for whatever silly things they believe.
As you can tell from the video above, I thought the whole thing was funny. I felt bad for Mr. Zed, who was just trying to get through the prayer and didn't have a clue as to what all the hubbub was about. I was a little embarrassed for the country that we have a bunch of villagers storming the Senate to protect the honor of their God. It makes us look ridiculous. On the other hand, it's not a big deal because obviously these protesters don't represent the great majority of Americans or even Christians in this country.
So, in the end, it's a silly little affair orchestrated by silly little men.

2. Most Senators behave as though there is no God. Hindu prayer to ? or Christian prayer to God.
Read following this is the will of God:
Jesus said, “For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me. And this is the Father's will that sent me that of all that he has given me I should lose nothing but should raise it up again at the last day.
And this is the will of him that sent me that every one that sees the Son and believes on him may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.”

4. How open minded of Harry Reid to invite other faiths to the Senate. Do the Senators know of this event and acknowledge the truth?
The woman of Samaria at Jacob’s well near the city of Sychar said to Jesus, “I perceive that thou art a prophet. Our fathers worshipped in this mountain; and you say, that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship.
Jesus answered, “Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when you shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worship the Father. You worship you know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews.”
“But the hour comes, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeks such to worship him. God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.”
The woman said, “I know that Messiah will come who is called Christ: when he is come, he will tell us all things.” Jesus said, “I that speak to you am he.”
Comment:
We are in the time to worship God the Father in spirit and in truth revealed by the Christ the Messiah written by the Prophets of Jesus born in Bethlehem.
Nancy Pelosi should read the above to members of the House. Vote on who believes and who does not and make a House report to the American people.

5. Whats next? Should we have a Mullah from Iran offer prayer (Allah is Great) at a Senate session? Those who hate Christianity need to read the writings of the founding fathers who almost without exception were devout Christians. I am so sick of this effort to move away from American traditions...
Political correctness gone mad.

6. Rajan Zed's prayer follows:
Let us pray. We meditate on the transcendental Glory of the Deity Supreme, who is inside the heart of the Earth, inside the life of the sky, and inside the soul of the Heaven. May He stimulate and illuminate our minds.
Lead us from the unreal to the real, from darkness to light, and from death to immortality. May we be protected together. May we be nourished together. May we work together with great vigor. May our study be enlightening. May no obstacle arise between us.
May the Senators strive constantly to serve the welfare of the world, performing their duties with the welfare of others always in mind, because by devotion to selfless work one attains the supreme goal of life. May they work carefully and wisely, guided by compassion and without thought for themselves.
United your resolve, united your hearts, may your spirits be as one, that you may long dwell in unity and concord.
Peace, peace, peace be unto all. Lord, we ask You to comfort the family of former First Lady, Lady Bird Johnson. Amen.
Exactly what part of these words is it that the "Christian Protesters" (as USA Today politely calls them, as opposed to, say, "bigoted embarrassments to our country) have such a problem? Except for the "Welfare of Others" nonsense and that garbage about "stimulat(ing) and illuminat(ing) our minds", this prayer could be delivered by any American Christian cleric.

7. Don't keep an open mind, your brains fall out! I always feel sad when people ask to be protected from Christians... At least you can sleep at night knowing our God wants nothing more than for you to come to heaven with us, compared to some religions who would rather you burn in hell because you don't believe the same. Just because you don't believe in Him doesn't mean He doesn't exist, and every day Christ hasn't returned is another day for more to come to Him.

8. I don't know where the knowledge of Christianity exhibited on this site comes from, but it does not seem to point toward it coming from reading the Christian Bible.
Our national motto is 'In God We Trust', and it is meant to mean the God of the Bible. When the motto was passed by the US Congress there was no evidence that the legislators were including any other diety than the God of the Bible.
Now, the US Senate asks to have the god(s) of Hinduism invoked to guide this nation. According to the Bible, this is casting aside God who has kept this country alive since its inception, and putting in His place an idol. An idol that can not hear or see or do anything but be seen as a slap in the face to the Christians of this nation.
When Washington had his army backed up against the sea by the British, when Lincoln faced the depths of the Civil War, when we were attacked at Peral Harbor and again on 9/11, who do you think the American people went to in prayer? Not the god(s) of Hinduism, not any god but the God of the Bible.
For the Senate to do this thing is stupid in the extreme. God is not a fool that He should sit and take this. Watch this nation. If this nation does not want God to be aknowledged then God will not force Himself on this nation, but He will also not protect this nation. And we have plenty of enemies.

i thought supposedly we r all God's "children"
every religion supports peace, n goodness. the lessons taught by each religion is almost pretty much the same. So the colour of skin is different, the customs are different...is that really enough to be afraid of people? in a world like this today, it's time for us to all come together...
n for everyone who keeps saying stuff like "im sick of these people taking over America...chaning our traditions n blah blah blah" it wud b nice to remember that the United States is a land of immigrants, no one truly owns the country, it promotes freedom n equality...so if u think ur being very "American" by saying all that, think again. This is country for all. Deal with it. I don't mean to sound harsh at all, so i apologize if i sound that way.
All im trying to say, is that tolerate. Or the world will not go on. We are all equal, it's the 21st century. Religon, skin color, doesnt matter.
o n chbeyer, im not Muslim, but nor does taht religion promote violence. People may create violence, teh actual texts of religion do not.
Whether ur Hindu or Christian, both faiths call upon respect for eachother. That's the true beauty of faith.

10. To those who claim that American traditions require Christian beliefs, i suggest you examine the Treaty of Tripoli, 1796, quoting George Washington, "The government of the United States is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion."
Freedom of religious belief is one of the greatest American traditions.

11. I've looked at the articals by the Young "Jerks" on a couple of occasions and am floored by their inability to be factual in their reporting. Their one sided views are nothing more than a joke much like the "Dailey Show". How AOL can put this on their site and call it news is appalling. This is nothing more than political bashing during an election year and obviously bias reporting.

12. CBeyer... is absolutely wrong. Most of our founding fathers were NOT chritian, and in fact, disliked Christianity. In fact Jefferson dispised Christianity and Frankline and Madison were not much softer in their views. There is a reason God is not mentioned in the constitution.

I think it is great that Reid invited a Hindu to give the prayer. Let's hope he continues with various other religions including Wicca, and even an atheist. Those should provide good theatre with the protests.

13. Sara, you obviously have NOT read the Koran or Hadith! Here's just one verse for you:
From the Hadith: Muslim (1:33) The Messenger of Allah said: "I have been commanded to fight against people till they testify that there is no god but Allah, that Muhammad is the messenger of Allah..."
There are numerous others.
Don't the Hindus believe that some people are more worthy than others? That should be enough to prevent a Hindu prayer in the Congress. Our nation was founded upon Judeo-Christian principles, without preference given to any sect therein. If you read the founding Constitutions of each of the 13 colonies, you will know the mindset of the people, and it was definitely CHRISTIAN, which embraces the Old Testament and Judaic ethics.
lafn63 at 2:34PM on Jul 13th 2007
14. The First Amendment guarantees freedom of religion for ALL RELIGIONS. If Congress lets one religion do the prayer, it has to be open for people of any religion to lead the prayer eventually, or else it is unconstitutional and must, by the supreme law of the land, which is above defiance or reproach until changed by the amendment process, be discontinued.

George Washington called religious belief indispensable to the prosperity of our democracy.
William Penn said, "Men must choose to be governed by God or condemn themselves to be ruled by tyrants.
And when asked what caused the Civil War, President Lincoln said, "We have forgotten God."
We have no government arm in power capable of contending in human passions unbridled by morality and religion. Our constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate for the government of any other.
