The Simpsons movie opens July 27th and its marketers are working overtime: opening Kwik-e-Marts (Times Square, Burbank); running the Springfield contest (Vermont won), and stalking random journalists. We just got an email telling us we'd been cartoonified by Simpsonizeme.com. Attached to the email: a contributor photo of us from seven years ago and the above. Um, flattering. Still, we agree with the critical consensus that the movie's come too late and that all this marketing reeks of desperation. But we've been wrong before. Are you going to see it?Mo's Blog Roll

2. Am I going to see it? YES, I can't wait! The previews are terrific, the characters are well known and well loved, the publicity stunts are cute and well done. It's always hard to say how well a movie will do. But I'd be surprised if this weren't a solid hit. It's not for nothing that it's the longest running animated show in history!

3. I will go see it! and i agree, it's not too late...most people that are going to see it will be in their late 20's early mid 30's...most of us were there for Tracy Ullman and remember the crudely drawn family. It passed a "kids cartoon" years ago and yes, there is a very good reason it's the longest running sit-com ever! it think marketing is just having a plain old ooodly goodly good time with the whole durn doodly thing!

5. I personally am amazed at the fact the show has lasted as long as it has.
The movie will just be a rehash of the same old crap that the show has been using since it was inflicted on the public.

6. I won't go to the theatre to see it, but I'll rent it when it comes out. I'm almost 50 and I still love the Simpson's! Sure, it's a little crude, but it's also hilarious. And a good laugh is always a good thing.

8.
The show hasn't been any good for the past 6 years so I'm not expecting much, but I'll go see it on the 1% chance that it'll actually be of the comedic quality the show had in the mid 90's.

13. Desperation? Anything that goes wrong with the campaign works in its favour, because you can simply write it off - or attribute it to - the Simpsons' punk ethos.
I got over-charged for Buzz Cola at 7-11. Was I upset? NO!
I ended up getting my money back, gracious apologies from the clerks, and a full-on Apu experience: I was over-charged, gouged if you will, on an unnecessary and already over-priced product.
If you can't appreciate the wicked satire from that blunder, your attitude will be as above.
Loosen up and enjoy the campaign. It's the best media bombardment I've ever experienced. I will be trolling all the local theatres this week to find out who has an advance screening so I can get in.
And you'd better believe OODLES of people will want to see this movie.
As the digg comments point out - internet buzz is rather absolutely meaningless.
