"They Ran Out of People to Kill"

Here is how one US intelligence officer explained the reason why sectarian killings are down in Iraq:

"Now that the Sunnis are all gone, murders have dropped off. One way to put it is they ran out of people to kill."

This Washington Post piece explains how the real threat in Iraq is the Mahdi Army and the other Shiite militia and how Al Qaeda is a much smaller problem comparatively. Even Michael Hayden, the head of the CIA, put Al Qaeda as only the fifth largest threat in Iraq, behind general anarchy (he also called the damage in Iraq "irreversible").
