Tucker Carlson of MSNBC sympathizes with the Vitters, believing they are victims during this media circus.
I just heard about this David Vitter Sex Scandal, and I find it truly fascinating and pretty complicated. Basically, the guy's phone number was on some hookers "list"; he was outed; and he admitted he "sinned." Sounds like he's a religious fellow, so I assume he committed adultery... Probably a good time to resign, especially since he is a Chairman for Rudy's Presidential campaign.Yes, this will cause a media circus.
Straight up, I don't like Tucker Carlson. I notice he comes off like a whiny little boy in this clip, I don't watch his show, but every time I see a clip he is defending something outrageous. C'mon are there not better people out there who can broadcast the news for MSNBC?
His guests bring up valid points and Tucker... just... I don't know how to describe it...He is just making noises and, yelling random words out loud, why invite guests on at all?
Tucker Quotes from this segment.
"Insane"
"Geez, C'mon"
"Is that the standard? You strengthen your marriage vows, you get a camera up your butt?"
"What have they done to you?"
"They are the victims"
"What the hell does that have to do with it"
"This is INSANE!"
In this segment Tucker brought up trivial issues that are on the fringe of whats brewing up to be a pretty complicated story. Bottom line, If you are high up in the government and you screw up morally, it tends to attract attention. It's an easy judge of character for the public, if you cheat on your wife, how can the public trust you to make decisions for them, again.
As for the media showing up at the guys church and hunting down his young children, thats wrong. Sounds like whomever did that needs to be lectured on ethics or something, interviewing a kid is almost as bad as cheating on your wife.
After watching this clip, maybe what you'll see is that Tucker is not a member of the press, he is something different, he is a bizarre character that won't go away. This clip below is from Fall 2006, courtesy George Stroumboulopoulos.

1. Tucker is truly outrageous. Vitter should resign, i live in Louisiana and i clearly remember the hundreds and hundreds of ads talking about his family and how he is so moral.(ads basically attacking Clinton) His victory speech focused on his family. He gave an interview in our newpaper and said he believed Clinton should have resigned. His wife gave an interview and said she would not be forgiving like Hillary if her husband cheated on her.
I'm not defending what Clinton did, but he did in no way run on morals or family values. Hillary forgave her husband, i believe that was the right thing to do, but this makes Wendi Vitter a hypocrite for now saying she forgives him. And if Clinton should have resigned, then so should Vitter. We're still not sure if what Vitter took part in was 100% legal. This hypocrite should resign. If someone did this, but wasn't a hypocrite, then fine, i would forgive them, but not a hypocrite. Vitter is no victim, the louisiana people who he basically lied to are the victims. the outrage here is pretty big, he might have trouble in 2010.

3. As I recall, Vitter said Clinton had lost his moral leadership to govern and should resign.
Okay, so then should Vitter be held to his own standard?
Or do senators get to have a lower threshold for moral governance than a president?

4. Tucker always comes off like a whiny little boy.
Both of the Vitters are hypocrites. But then, most of these right-wing nuts are.

5. I always thought Tucker was objective about current issues, giving guests an opportunity to express their views without interruption. Lately, I find him becoming more "Foxlike" in his on-air manner.
Should he continue to behave like such, I suggest he apply for a spot at the Fox "Fair and Balanced" network.

6. I like Jon Stewart's characterization of the Tucker.
The point is, if someone profits from his stated public views on marriage it is hypocritical if the standards that he set for himself are just the opposite. That makes Vitter's personal life ripe for public discourse.
Clinton was different. We all knew that he was a hound dog. He never set himself up as a preacher of morality. He was taken advantage of by someone that told people in advance that she was going to Washington "with her presidential kneepads". Tucker's hypocricy is renown. His puny efforts to distinguish his praise of Vitter and condemnation of Clinton are pathetic. He does, however know how to talk over his opponents objections so that we cannot hear the other argument. Tucker, winning is not shouting louder than anyone else. Please be quiet so that we can hear other people make a fool of you.

7. Both of the Vitters are the most hypocrit people I've ever heard of. Mr Livingston resigned from the Congress for the very same infedelity reason as Mr Vitter and few more. But here they were at the press conference and Mr Vitter gave a speech as if this was nothing and he had more important things to do and his wife whining about the reporters on her lawn as if they were all the victims. I don't recall her complaining about the reporters when she made her comment about the Clintons. At least when Hillary stood by her husband she was also giving speeches on family values (the village speech). There is a difference between family values and overboard religious righteous group of morals full of lies and hypocricy. One does not have to be a religious fanatic to have a good family. Mrs Vitter appeared to be a good mother and a wife but her religous hypocricy overshadowed her good judgement & decision making. She needs to call Hillary for consultation.
The Republicans are hypocrit among themselves. They are now willing to let Vitter serve his term with this mess over his head but the previous ones were asked to resign their position.

"[Clinton] was taken advantage of by someone that told people in advance that she was going to Washington 'with her presidential kneepads'."
TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF BY A 23 Y/O???????
Hahahahahaha! I love Clinton, really I do, and I would have done the same thing Monica did if given the opportunity. Really!
But the president of the United States was hardly a victim. Maybe of his own weaknesses and his own crooked erections, such as they were.
But, please, taken advantage of? Of all the apologists I've ever heard come to his defense...
Couldn't he just have put her in her place with a Bill-smile and a firm, "No."??? And then a little helpful nudge from the Secret Service who could have protected him from himself...

"It is easy to say something until it happens to you. This does not make Wendy V. a hypocrite."
With respect, it makes her a doormat.
Women who stay in marriages to a serial hypocritical philanderer for the sake of the children usually do more harm than good. Especially when powerful public figures are involved.
Sen. V's very public pronouncements on morality and the family versus his private behavior sets a very bad role model for his own children and contributes to a climate of secrecy, shame and dysfunction within the family unit.

10. Typical of conservatives. When Dems screw around on their spouses, they scream, finger point, and condemn. When one of their own do it, it is wink wink nod nod.
Vitter ran in 2004 droning on and on about morality and abstinence education and being faithful in marriage. Sorry, Tucker, my friend, this man is nothing but a hypocrite.
And didn't his wife Wendy say she would cut off his penis like Lorena Bobbitt? We are waiting, Wendy....

11. In response to David S. (11):
"Sorry, Tucker, my friend, this man is nothing but a hypocrite."
On the contrary, Vitter's sooooooooooo much more than a hypocrite. Because he holds a powerful national position as a senator who, afetr consulting his own moral compass such as it is, can help shape laws that have an impact on the personal lives of all us in this country.
That's the problem here. Not his domestic issues.
Liz at 11:41AM on Jul 17th 2007

"Sorry, Tucker, my friend, this man is nothing but a hypocrite."
YIKES! You mean if she DOESN'T cut off his penis, she'd be a hypocrite, too?

13. Hey Liz, You are right but I was trying to distinguish between the two situations. Men are weak. Just ask me and all of my friends. We are destined to become victims of our hormones. You may not like it but, although we have the ability to say no, we rarely do. As a divorce attorney I have seen it a million times. As for Clinton, I just wish he was more like JFK and had better taste in women.
Steve Seivers at 1:54PM on Jul 18th 2007
14. Ah, yes, Steve, the men-are-dogs argument...hormones interfering with free will and all that. Ha! (Of course, women as I'm sure you see frequently enough in your biz, are certainly having their fun trying to catch up.)
Just don't run for public office might be the lesson here.
"As for Clinton, I just wish he was more like JFK and had better taste in women."
I'd say both had taste issues vis-a-vis women. Jackie being the obvious exception. MM, while often quite beautiful, always looked like she needed a bath, if not to say a regimen of antibiotics.

The poor poor Vitters - and that oh so nasty media that continues to hound them. Ya right - it takes a special brand of superhypocracy to try to play themselves off themselves as victims here.
Maybe Mrs. Vitter should apologize to Lorena Bobbitt while she is at it. Or better yet - Mrs. Vitter - ZIP IT !
As far as Tucker, Rich Lowry, Jonah Goldberg, and the rest of the Richie Rich whiney boys crowd goes -do something productive and enlist. Maybe these superpatriots haven't noticed but the military is now accepting guys their age thanks to this war they all so fervently support - as long as they're not in it of course.
Send Tucker and the rest of his buddies to Iraq and let some of our soldiers in their 3rd and 4th tours of duty there come home.
