The coup was aimed at toppling President Franklin D Roosevelt with the help of half-a-million war veterans. The plotters, who were alleged to involve some of the most famous families in America, (owners of Heinz, Birds Eye, Goodtea, Maxwell Hse & George Bush's Grandfather, Prescott) believed that their country should adopt the policies of Hitler and Mussolini to beat the great depression.Give it a listen and see what conclusions you draw. I remember reading once that Prescott Bush helped finance the Nazi's. I am very happy he failed at turning American into a fascist land. That would have made WWII a little bit more messy. 3. USMC General Smedley Butler was approached by this bunch of American Fascists to lead a group called A.L.L. or the American Liberty League in a putsch against FDR. He was to become a "Secretary of General Affairs" and take control of government, leaving President Roosevelt as a figurehead, much like Mussolini left the Italian king as a puppet. Butler, a two time Medal of Honor winner, told these fascists that he'd lead the Marines against any cabal that tried this kind of thing and then testified to Congress about it in the Dies Committee Hearings of '34. His testimony is in the Congressional Record. He wrote War is A Racket about his career and its aftermath. He was a great American hero and its a shame he's not remembered, but then again, the fascists of '34 are still around and they're in control now so there will be no statues to Butler, or to freedom, for much longer.
