Administrative judge Roy Pearson sued his local dry cleaners over a $10.50 pants alteration for $54 million (reduced in the course of litigation from $67 million, which included $15,000 to rent a car every weekend to drive to another dry cleaning service). After costing the immigrant Chung family tens of thousands of dollars of legal fees, Pearson lost. Now, because of his questionable judgment, he's being fired. Ah, justice.Mo's Blog Roll

1. How poetic for him to lose his job . He cost a hard working industrious family a lot of hard earned money to defend themselves against him. He now should be held liable for their expenses. How many hours do you have to spend cleaning clothes in a shop to earn the money he made them waste. He should have to do that many hours in a prison laundry also.

2. I am very relieved that this man lost both his case AND his job. It rekindles my hope that our justice system can be salvaged! Those people should sue him in civil court for harassment.

3. GREED & ARROGANCE is at the core of this MAN of the LAW ... got exactly what he DESERVED! And has thus, restored my FAITH in our JUSTICE SYSTEM!

4. That is exactly what he gets! Its sad that one of the most ridiculous lawsuits ever was set in motion someone in law enforcement, a judge at that. He should have known better. Didnt the couple even offer to pay for the cost of his pants at one point? Greed doesnt get you anywhere, and justice was definitely served in this case. I just wish those poor people had not spent their hard earned money on legal fees....the judge should be ordered to pay those for wasting their time!

6. I'm glad this greedy idot Judge lost his job ! He caused so much pain and debt . for the people who own this dry cleaners. Then to think he wanted money to rent a car to go to another dry cleaners. These stupid cheap pants he had he could have bought a new pair each day, instead of renting a car ! Rediculous. ! Just because he thought he had authority he thought he could make millions for his retirement. Now go stand in the unemployment line you idiot pathetic Judge! And I hope everyone in that town looks down on you! Like scum........Hope you have to move !

7. You people have absolutely no understanding of the way that the black community is mistreated by these so called hard working immigrant families. I for one turned in my wedding dress to be cleaned at an immigrant asian owned cleaners and they completely ruined it and expected me to pay 200 for the terrible "cleaning". Only after threatening to sue thier asses did they release my dress. There is a long history of immigrant asian (particularly Korean) business owners discriminating against the black community. Maybe about 10 years ago a korean fruit stand owner shot a black girl in the back because she thought the little girl was stealing something. These business owners have NO respect for the black community and I felt his pain when he brought the law suit. he should not have been fired, the cleaners should have been closed down as all they do is feed on the black community. Before you all make comments try to understand.

8. joy, you are not seeing this with objective eyes. i am sorry your life has been so difficult, but actions like this man is what is wrong with our society. that family did nothing to deserve what was given them by that man just because of other stories you have heard. just like you don't like to be stereotyped because of your color, you should consider not doing the same to others. you will not make this place better with that attitude. you will only contribute to the downfall good luck to you

9. #5: Fair enough! But, why leave out the part RE the growing CRIMES some [FATAL] committed on the Asian community in run down neighborhoods? There are two sides to every story!
Mo at 1:44PM on Aug 3rd 2007
10. So, #5, it's OK for racism to exist?? NO. I am glad an idiot who abuses the system in the manner he did has been "released" from his position as "His honor". Hmmph. Honor, indeed...
web jones at 2:39PM on Aug 3rd 2007
11. #5, Joy, I do understand your sentiments, and I do think that the Chungs should have been required to compensate Judge Pearson for their mistake. No one should be allowed to take advantage of another, no matter what the race. The issue is whether he should be suing for millions of dollars, and the answer is no. it's insane, ridiculous, and just plain moronic. The issue is not about race or how one race is treating another, or at least it shouldn't be. The issue is one of fairness and justice. (I do find it interesting that you seem to assume all Asians are taking advantage of the balck community--isn't that the same type of racial prejudice we are trying to overcome in the US? I feel bad for you and your wedding dress, and I think the dry cleaners should be required to compensate you, but their race or yours should not be an issue) I think Pearson should lose his job for the fact that he is abusing the law, bringing frivilous cases to court, and disrespecting the legal system that he is supposed to be upholding.

12. joy, keep your racism to yourself. It's sick. I don't care if you hate Koreans, but don't try to make this about them, you bottom-feeding Al-Sharpton wannabe.

13. Dear Joy, Until I read your comments I had not thought of this as having anything to do with racial issues and I will not comment on any such bias. Deep down I hope that somewhere in your heart you might admit that the amount of the suit was out of proportion to the damages suffered and I hope that you agree that reasonable actions by the Judge might have met with success instead of failure. I hope too that you might understand that the excessive behaviour of the Judge does cause legitimate questions concerning whether or not he should be deciding cases that effect others. Try to imagine how justice might have responded if it was a white judge suing a black dry cleaner. Further, would any of the offers that the dry cleaner made to the Judge (up to $12,000) been adequate punishment for the racial aspects of your views? Should any business be "shut down" over one pair of pants? Do you know as a fact that this particular business has a documented history of treating black customers unfairly or that this particular business does in fact "feed on the black community"? If you do have evidence of that, then perhaps you should have joined the Judge's suit and produced such factual evidence in support of his claim.

14. Why does everything have to be about race?! What about the human race?!!! This was a greedy man who loosely interpreted the law in order to try and prove a point and in the mean time cost a hard working family a lot of time and anguish and money. I think the lesson here is conflict resolution. There are better things our justice system can be doing than worrying about a whiney man who wanted to cry to everyone about bad service. We have all gotten bad service whether they are companies owned by Asians Hispanics, African Americans or Caucasians! Really, what they should’ve said to him is "call me when you have a real problem"
brenda at 4:39PM on Aug 3rd 2007
15. Joy - why does this have to be about race??? this is an obvious attempt to abuse power. I'm glad the judge lost his case - it was absolutely ridiculous.
Not all Asian immigrants discriminate or are disrespectful to African Americans. Generalizations like yours contribute to racism, they don't make things any better.
Sorry to hear about your wedding dress - I hope you were able to make them pay for the damages.
Respectfully -
Another African American Woman
