Without further ado, the much anticipated Richard Branson Interview.
Branson knows how to get publicity, throwing water on Colbert certainly worked. This story was all over the Internet over the past couple of weeks. Colbert seemed to play along accepting an airliner named after himself and be-friending a billionaire. Let's speculate, are Colbert and Branson still cool with each other? I just read this from the AP wire.
Virgin America's scheduled 10 a.m. flight lifted off about 10:50 a.m., said spokesman Gareth Edmonson-Jones. On-board were billionaire Richard Branson and chief executive Fred Reid, who was late arriving at the airport.
Comedian Stephen Colbert, scheduled to attend a ceremony at the airport, didn't make it.
"He was in a car for 4 1/2 hours and turned around in the end," Edmonson-Jones said.

1. The genuine handshake at the end took all the tension out of it. I thought is was all done in good fun. Colbert can take a joke, however if Branson has got dowsed in water first then it might have been different.

2. This was weak. Pretty standard interview, until Branson, who couldn't believe someone treated him like he had a sense of humor, pulled a dick move by throwing his water.

3. I believe this was mostly a ratings gimmick that was masterminded, but artfully so, by Comedy Central. From Obama's Daily Show appearance alone, it was clear this was going to be a big night for the network. Even though the "trainwreck" falls slightly outside the sweeps period (July's ended August 1st), Comedy Central will still undoubtedly brandish this as a flagship example of its ability to potentially amass a swarm of eyeballs for its advertisers. The Daily Show and Report both appeal to a savvy and high-salary earning crowd, a rare breed among television viewers of the day.

4. Since when is Colbert not a spoof? This got far more attention for Branson and Colbert than a regular interview.
Can you imagine a primma donna like O'Reilly getting hit with water on the air? We can only hope it happens.

5. It's so funny! I love that the press has taken it to the extremes of calling the interview a train wreck. No tension there at all, just some well-orchestrated and silly humor. I mean, the billionaire comes on and does whatever he pleases to the tv host, who in turn, does it back. Colbert even gives Branson the rest of the water in the bottle as ammo. It's all in the fun/genius of Colbert.

6. Amen to DaleF! Since when is Colbert not a spoof? It's probably just that more people care about him because he is one. As he himself noted much of comedy revolves around status, and his act is all about him trying to be "high status." Some of the best moments are when he gets his status lowered by certain events (such as his "wait a minute why did we invade Iraq?" press-corps moment), and (more recently) getting dowsed by water.
