WACO, Tex., Aug. 27 - Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales, whose tenure has been marred by controversy and accusations of perjury before Congress, has resigned. A senior administration official said he would announce the decision later this morning in Washington. No video yet, but here is a related Alberto Gonzales video.
*Edit, Okay, I first posted the the James Comey testimony from from May 2007, but it's early Monday and you deserve a laugh, so here is some TDS Gonzales coverage.

1. What a shame -- Gonzales will be replaced by someone who will pursue the same anti-American agenda, but who will lie about it with greater finesse.

2. I suppose Goinzales will say he is resigning to spend more time lying to his family.

3. This just goes to show why you do not give your good friend a high level job. Gonzales and Bush were good friends in Texas - an attorney general has to operate independently of the president. The attorney general is the top law enforcement officer of the land - he has to see to it the law of the land is upheld at all costs.
Gonzales could not stand up to Bush. He also got entrapped in his own testimony about issues of firings and other things. When the head of the FBI, Robert Mueller, gave conflicting testimony to Gonzales, it was not a good omen of things to come.

4. Wow David S! A very concise and succint comment without resorting to name bashing and political labels (of either ideology) to cloud the issues. Nice going!

5. If someone can lie about what happened with more finesse than Gonzales, then the person had to have been in on everything from the start, for the moment you bring more people in on the secret, the more chances you have of the secret being told.

6. Talking about the pot calling the kettle black. Good ol Democrat Harry "Las Vegas" Reid uses his Senate position to say Alberto Gonzales was never right for the job. The biggest failure in U.S. Government Executive, Legislative, Admin. guess who? Harry Reid takes Senate down the poll ratings to majority public opinion against him, 80% American voter disapprove of Congress.
American people are shamed of Harry Reid and Nancy P. birds of a feather dud-birds. Latinos of America are proud of Alberto Gonzales and all Americas who honor their Country. God Bless America.

7. This administration is losing yet another of its high ranking officials amid a cloud of corruption. I think there hasn't been such an atmosphere of distrust for government since Watergate brought down the Nixon administration.
It's sad that people like Gonzales tarnish the name and reputation our country has held in the world for so many years. Now that this embarassing presidential term is about to end, I sincerely hope we have the good will among the rest of the world to repair our tarnished name and reputation.
The American people must not see the corruption of Alberto Gonzales as a reason to question the ability of other Latino leaders to make our country strong again. Together, we can recast the "great satan" into a country with whom the rest of the world can live in peace. We have to be a united country with the people in full support of a strong and trustworthy administration. It can't happen soon enough!

8. David. Well said. We have a fair chance to restore our cherished system of checks and balance which has been so endangered by this administration. The crew seems to be jumping ship, leaving the commander where he deserves to be--alone. We have, as a people, failed ourselves by not taking a more active role in seeking to change this very bad adminstration sooner.

9. I am not sure if Alberto Gonzales needs our sympathy or not. Apostle Paul said, “But with me it is a very small thing that I should be judged by you or by a human court. In fact, I do not even judge myself. For I know nothing against myself, yet I am not justified by this; but He who judges me is the Lord.”
“Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord comes, who will both bring to light the hidden things of darkness and reveal the counsels of the hearts. Then each one's praise will come from God.”
Paul and possibly Alberto Gonzales are of the mind that to be judge by others, or even your own opinion matters little. “He who judges me is the Lord.” Some who have faith know their judgment in truth is from God.

10. Now if the rest of this administration would follow in Gonzo's shoes.......

11. And another one bites the dust. Who else needs to go, besides Bush himself? Why do we agonize over
illegal immigration and the price we pay by thier
presence while the Bush administration has bigger
lawbreakers who may never pay for crimes such as illegal wire tapping, etc. Rumsfield, Wolfowitz, Rove, Gonzales, all have left the White House under less than stellar conditions. Where is the outrage? Our democracy, Constitution, and Bill of Rights are not to be dishonored by any cause or person.

13. Gonzalez was there to eviscerate the Constitution with his work to end Habeas Corpus. He supplied the traction for the dangerous and false notion of the unitary executive, he did not think the Geneva Convention was worth following, did not scruple over the firings of US attorneys for political purposes, did not believe that the people of the US have any rights that the government is bound to respect and enabled Bush to bring down much of the legal framework that has held the country together for 230 years and more. He is a disgrace. He never had the brains for the job and does not have the character to even understand the functions of the Attorney General's office. He won't be missed and will be better off in Texas where he can't do too much damage except to Texans.

14. Gonsales lied again. Stating he was glad for the opportunity to 'serve the American public' is in point of fact another attempt to obfuscate facts, he served his pal geoWge.
Meanwhile geoWge's attempt to lay this out as a purely political occurrence is eroneious, just look at the testimony of those who experienced the Gonzales attempts to override a then sitting Attny General. Further, Republican senators made statements damning Alberto G's credibility and trustworthiness. Clearly Gonzo committed perjury in his obvious contempt of Congress during under oath testimony. Hey there geoWge, can't you accept that this played out on the public airewavs providing us with the opportunity to witness the obvious attempts to obfuscate truth demonstrating his inept handling of even his own sworn testimony. He lost Republican support due to his own actions.

15. Hey Alan Klaus, nice try on your mis-direction play!
This board is about Alberto Gonzales, not Congress.
Since you brought it up, let's stop the spin.
The Regressives have had control of the Congress
and Senate for 12 years and since 2000, shut the
Dems out of all legislation, and the only work
they did was in the interests of big business,
ignoring the interests of the American people.
Enraged by this malpractice, and the overt criminality of the Regressive party as a whole,
The American people voted for change.
The result of this is that while the Dems have
a majority in both Houses, they don't have a
veto proof majority.
Consequently, the Regs have blocked and vetoed
almost everything that the Dems try to pass.
(they allowed minimum wage to pass only because
Wal-Mart pressured them into it. Seems low wage workers were no longer able to afford their everyday
low prices)
The Reg's plan (and apparently Mr.Klauss'),is to
make voters believe that it's the Dem's fault.
Funny how they think we're all idiots.
